  1. My suggestion was simply that, an idea. I just used the Bradford case as an example. If, when you do that maths, it would be more feasible to charge maybe £4 for adults then even that is still appealing to the punters and I wasn't suggesting it would be a regular weekly thing, just a few times a season to reward the punters for their loyalty, nice try and poopooing my idea tho.
  2. Well said that man. I have a young one now and I'm actually dreading the day he wants to start going to the football with the cost involved these days. It's funny you should mention the Juniors, terrific value to be had on a Saturday afternoon at Petershill Juniors, you can get a pint in the bar inside the complex before the game and at Half time I am led to believe. Entry is 4/5 quid for an adult and 2 quid I think for a kid and certainly when I was younger you could run on the park at half time and play about with the subs etc, happy days. Also, yeah the food is dirt cheap at these games and the atmosphere can be decent, good old fashioned football banter watching players who are playing for the jersey and fighting for every ball. Yeah football hasn't been value for money for years now, more of a chore than anything else. I went to Old Trafford last year and whilst it cost an arm and a leg there was some value for money there. Totally different ball game down there, it's like a military operation, more of an event that a footie match and you leave feeling like you have really enjoyed yourself. Do you think that would work at Firhill just out of curiosity, pound or two entry for one game and see what happens crowd wise?
  3. Agree with everything you have said there. You said it will never happen and I agree and that is the sad thing. But what may happen is they may be forced into a humiliating retreat when the punters simply stop going. Also, agree with you about football being an expensive day out when it comes to food, programmes etc and another thing the prices for food and refreshments at football is overpriced too for the standard of products served up but that is the same everywhere right now. Yeah, 17 quid is fine if your taking the kids but as you said if you go yourself its a right killer and more clubs should look at the example set by some clubs down south, Bradford game at the weekend there they set the entry at one pound all round just as an experiment and the ground sold out, obviously not the answer for everyone but something like that would be a cracking little piece of PR in this difficult financial climate. Say we tried that in one of the meaningless home games towards the end of the season, a pound or two pound all round, I think we would get 3-400, I may be wrong tho. Finally, The old firm are a disgrace, as you said they don't give a hoot because they knw that have the parents trapped because the culture in West of Scotland in a way forces parents to take their kids every week at some effort and cost. But look what's happening at Ibrox at the moment so they are suffering for all their mistakes but to round off hopefully the SFA's pricing yesterday may make some chairman and clubs in the country stand up and take notice and a big well done to the 6003 that turned up last night to send a message to the powers that be that if you price football accordingly, they will come along.
  4. I was covering the U21 game last night for St Mirren official website and it got me thinking about pricing once again. £30 last night for 20 kids and five adults - perfect for groups of school kids/football teams. £8 for a parent and kid last night to watch international football albeit at U21 level. Surely the time has to come when we start considering the future of our game and the punters. Let's give it a go for a season and I'm sure we will see the difference - make it £10/5 across the board in the first division, obviously the kids price wouldn't apply in our case but make it more affordable for adults to bring their kids along for free - £17 to watch the standard of football that we serve up, I don't call that value for money do you? Finally, the SPL have to take a look at themselves. I was at a loose end last wednesday night and was considering nipping along to Parkhead to watch Celtic v Dunfermline - £23 for an adult!? I mean that's just ridiculous for what was always going to be a one sided stroll for Celtic. £15/5 in the SPL because let's be honest the quality certainly isn't what it was in what is supposed to be our top league. Thoughts?
  5. Also, Ayr will be ready for a fight, the tackles will fly in and we will probably be dragged into a fight and I don't have any confidence whatsoever in our players when it comes to fight and who wants it more.
  6. That's what I am worried about the most to be fair. The fact that Brian Reid seems to be able to motivate his players for big games and it doesn't come much bigger tomorrow night. Make no mistake they will come and have a right go and a win tomorrow night would save their season and will send us deep into a relegation fight if we aren't in one already that is.
  7. Can the two match offer be purchased before the game on Saturday or do they have to be bought from the club tomorrow for example from the offices?
  8. Eh yes. Look at our results against these teams last time out at firhill. 4-0 and 5-1 hence why they are winnable games. Doesn't take a genius to work out.
  9. To be honest. I don't see the point in getting rid of Jackie at this point. Give him until the end of the season because let's be honest we ain't going down, we still have enough to pick up points here and there and with two winnable home games to come it's a chance for Jackie and the players to put a bit of distance between us and Ayr/QOS down the bottom.
  10. Well for a start how can you call them lazy? I understand that, yes, sometimes there can be stories in the back pages that smack of laziness and smacks of someone just producing the same boring copy and propaganda over and over again but if you have any intelligence or appreciation for the industry whatsoever you would realise that there are some good, under-rated writers out there who are good at their job and produce good, solid copy that is both informative and interesting.
  11. Once again another sweeping and senseless generalisation. I take it you don't read the sports pages at all then as a football fan or for that matter any football websites that are often populated by the so-called "un-interested bloggers".
  12. Excuse me, I strongly object to this point as it smacks of ignorance and snobbery to be quite frank! Firstly, you are making a sweeping generalisation, how do you know they are Bloggers and also how do you know they have no interest in PTFC? How do you know why those guys in the press box are there? Do you know them all personally or do you know for fact what each one's function is at the game? Didn't think so and before you say I don't know what I'm talking about I'm a Sports Journalism graduate who happens to know what he's talking about unlike you. Also, posts like that sum up what is wrong with this club at the minute.
  13. Jeez oh there is just no pleasing some people. Ok this idea might not be beneficial to season ticket holders but this is a good idea to try and get more people through the doors!
  14. Cracking offer by the club for the next two home games. Hopefully will encourage more folk out especially for the midweek game against Ayr.
  15. I had a look at the upcoming fixtures and as has been said they are all very dangerous. Dundee at home then tough trips to grounds that haven't been kind to us in recent years, Raith and Livingston, slotted in between that a very difficult game against a resurgent Morton. The next month could define our season.
  16. I think after archie's red card tonight, Jackie should use this an opportunity to find a settled back four without Archie. As many have already said in recent weeks he has been a fine servant to the club but he is clearly past it and too slow for this division. Also, I lost count tonight of how many times he just hoofed the ball up the park when he had time on the ball to pick out a team-mate.
  17. the stats do speak for themselves. Hate to jinx it but it would be typical of us to slip up in the next two home games.
  18. Given the fact he secured the three points yesterday, do you guys not think he is due a chance to prove himself over 90 minutes again? Ok, it could be said his goal was all about the excellent delivery from Sinclair but I must say I thought Elliot was the weak link yesterday in the final third and surely it's time to give Doolan a start again.
  19. Disagree completely. Dargo would still do a cracking job in this division if given the service from our midfield.
  20. I was sitting a good few rows down from Gus and this old character was right next to me. I just took offence to it that one of our own was turning on one of the very few fans still around who knows how to have a laugh at games.
  21. Having watched St Mirren on a number of occasions last season, Dargo would be a cracking aqcuisition for us. Just the type of player we need up front. I feel we have the wingers and creative players but we lack that cutting edge up front and we have done since the days of DC.
  22. I don't use this forum as much as I used to use previous Jags fan forums in the past. However, I visit the site on a regular basis to have a wee browse round the topics. However after attending my first match of the season last night I felt I had to post this comment. Many of you on this forum may know of Gus, the well-known supporter who sparks most of the singing and fun and games at the away matches in particular. I don't know what the general feeling is towards Gus and his behaviour at times but I must say I was disgusted last night when Gus was simply enjoying himself in the back row of the stand without causing any trouble to anyone and an older gentleman sat next to me stood up and told him to shut up and sit down. In my opinion this just sums up a segment of our support and is why I feel the enjoyment that used to come with going to the matches has all but dissapered and I find it sad that our own supporters are turning on our own.
