  1. I would hope that the football authorities, after consultation with the French Consulate, will give guidance to clubs about what might be appropriate. There have already been events in Scotland to show support for France. France is observing three days of mourning. I just wonder whether eight days after the tragedy in Paris, and many days after the country has officially ended mourning, it is necessary to mark the occasion at Firhill. Jags fans have one of their own to commemorate and we should show the greatest possible respect for Brown McMaster on Saturday.
  2. This is a very good point. Personally, I'm a bit of a francophile and was in Paris with my kids earlier in the year. They, with my ex-wife, were in the Cambodian restaurant that was attacked, a couple of years ago. We were at the vigil in Glasgow last night. Nationally, I thought that the reaction could be explained because it is indeed close to home, an attack on a neighbour. A place that a lot of people will be familiar with. Internationally, the reaction supports your views and diminishes mine. I saw a picture of the Sydney Opera House illuminated in blue, white and red and thought exactly the same thought as you; of one line news articles about a bomb in a Baghdad market that killed hundreds, of other dimly remembered news stories. I hate stories that highlight one Briton killed in a massacre. Are the media to blame for filtering these stories? or are these the stories that we want to see? We need to start treating all people with equal respect. That is the measure of a civilised society.
  3. They don't influence opinions, they are opinions. What can we influence?
  4. This is a football fans forum. A talking shop. A coming together of disparate views. What influence does it have?
  5. Ah yes, that goal. To be fair, the boy put it on a plate for him.
  6. There will be a vigil today in support of the people of France. 4pm at the steps of Buchanan Galleries.
  7. Two quotes from the ET article. 'The club announced yesterday that it had struck an agreement with Bank of Scotland' 'We have no debt, and we owe no money to any other banks' So, is it re-sheduling of debts with the penalty payments being paid by the new investor?
  8. Reaching the age of 60 hasn't brought the wisdom that I hoped it might but it has left me deeply cynical. There is nothing in the club statement or the ET article about the assets of the club. Lot's of positive spin but no details. We don't know who the investors are or the conditions of their investment. There is a lot of talk about communicating with the fans. We have heard this before and nothing has happened. What is different now, though, is that it seems that it was a condition of the deal that the bank insisted on. Along the lines of 'if you want to take your business forward, talk to your customers'. The bank clearly has a better understanding of this than the board. More than just talk, it seems. Supporters are to get an opportunity to have a greater say in the running of the club. Again, a condition set by the bank and not one that the board have chosen. I will reserve judgement on the deal until the full package is made clear. If it is as positive as it sounds then I will praise the board. At the moment, the most positive aspects of the deal seem to have been driven by the bank. You'll excuse me for being cynical about them too.
  9. A great list of achievements. As for the last item, I too would like to know the details of the deal. Given that it was a 'good news' statement, I fear that the details were omitted because they are not good news. Hope I am wrong and will praise Beattie if it all turns out to be good news.
  10. It's not hard at all but why? Why not just turn up and show the card at the ticket office. Creating more work in the office and limiting the appeal of the offer by excluding walk ups.
  11. Thank you TomReilly. The amount raised for the club, so far, now stands at £2001. Well done WeAreThistlers
  12. I'm sure that the club is all over the marketing for this. However, if anybody can reinforce the message, it can't hurt.
  13. This article has more details. http://m.newsshopper...romley_forward/
  14. It's actually meant to be a bit of fun, a chance to win a top for three quid and a way of raising funds for the club. It's not really supposed to be a study of probabilities, economics and statistical analysis. As I am not inviting multiple entries then perhaps sponsoring your own top might be the way to go. I could organise that for you but there would be a hefty handling charge which might take it out of your range.
  15. Last Jag Standing rules Predict the result of Jags games. Competition will start with the game at Rugby Park on 28 November. I will post a list of players a week before that which will signal the start of the competition. Keep your powder dry until then. 1. Post your prediction on this thread - Win, Lose or Draw. 2. Post must be up before kick off e.g. if kick off time is 3.00, latest acceptable time of post is 2.59 3. If your prediction is correct and on time you stay in for next round. 4. In the event that no player predicts the correct result, all players stay in for the next round. 5. Last Jag standing wins.
  16. That's right. Having got Declan's top, courtesy of lady-isobel-barnett, anything we raise with it is a bonus. Thought I would try something different. I hoped by pitching it as lost cost it might attract a fair few players. At the back of my mind I was thinking that we might get 50+ members involved. This would have allowed us to get another top (at £150). The idea was that once the LJS competition got down to about 15 players left, they would additionally be entered into a prediction competition for the new (14th) top. I hoped this would be an additional carrot to attract players. I think that, possibly, fundraising fatigue is setting in now. Understandable given the phenomenal effort everybody has put in already and not helped by poor performances on the park. I approached the club about a discount. We are well into the season now and most of the playing staff now are sponsored, so it seemed reasonable. Their response was generous. I'm sure the fact that our fundraising has been so successful has had a bearing on that. So, we have 14 players for LJS so far. another 11 will bring the total raised to £75 and secure another top. In this type of competition numbers can diminish quickly. With only 25 players it might not last long which is why I hoped for more. But let's see what happens. I am open to suggestion about how we deal with the 14th top if we hit target. My idea is only one possible way of dealing with it. You have all been incredibly generous in giving to the club. Your money has secured 13 sponsored tops. I am, in modern parlance, curating this. On your behalf. If anybody has ideas for other ways to decide the destination for the tops, I'm happy to run it. So, let's get this going guys. If you have £3 to spare, chuck it this way. Pit your wits against the variable performances of the first team. And never forget, win, lose or draw, we are all, always Partick Thistle.
  17. The club have informed WAT Sponsorship HQ that, because of our continued support, we can now sponsor tops for £75. So, we need at least another 11 people to dip their hand into the small change jar. Then we will have another top to be won by some lucky person* The more the merrier. *No, Sunnylaw, it won't be first man out!
  18. Money for 13th top is with the club. Just waiting for Lyle Taylor II... Thanks again to all.
  19. Completely agree with your last paragraph l-i-b.
  20. And why not. Only three quid for a chance to win Declan McDaid's home top. Bargain. Thank you Peaty FC
