  1. If you focus entirely on the negatves then yes Scotzine is run by a Celtic fan who does come accross as an arse sometimes. However if you look at the positives the site itself offers articles on a wider variety of Scottish football related topics than any other site I've seen and is regularly updated with new content. I'm not convinced covering womens football is a very good ruse to relaunch a website since almost nobody pays any attention to the womens games in this country. It's refreshing however to see that somebody has. As for asking fans of other teams to contribute just being an attempt to shake of the Celtzine tag then even if it is then surely this is a good thing. He's realised a problem the site had and is going out of his way to fix it and it's the readers who benefit as a result. With regards to the poll itself, these things are generally just a bit of fun. Obvioulsy no one will have seen everything. I like the way the site itself has posted articles with a few people looking back over the season and giving their responses to the categories in the poll. It's quite interesting to guage what other peoplke think of the past year.
  2. I don't recall wondering why people called it Celtzine. Admittedly some writers appear to have pro-parkhead leanings but anyone can write for the site and Scotzine has given a lot of coverage to Thistle this season. Also anyone can vote in the poll so it's up to Thistle fans to vote for Archie. McNamara will definitely win if every Thistle fan doesn't vote because they think McNamara is going to win. Also I understand the shortlist was made from fan nominations so it's not the site's fault if Bannigan is left out, it's only as good as those that contribute.
  3. Jags represented in 4 categories: Archie (and McNamara but don't vote for him) in SFL Manager of the year. Balatoni and Erskine in SFL player of the year. Lawless in SFL young player of the year (Can't believe Bannigan isn't nominated?!) Partick Thistle's First Division Campaign in most memorable moment of the season. http://www.scotzine....ll-awards-2013/
  4. I decided lasy year that the Maryhill McDonalds Junior Jags scarf I got in 1990 was too wee for me and ended up buying a bar scarf off of eBay because the club didn't just sell a scarf in Thistle colours. The only 2 the club had were rubbish leisure wear style ones, either mostly grey with a wee bit of red and yellow or that weird one with with thin longitudinal stripes of various colours. It seemed like they were doing everything to make them look as little like football scarves as possible.
  5. I quite like all the Joma standard designs I've seen and wouldn't be upset if we end up playing in one of those. The red and yellow Galatasaray style one they have might make a nice change... http://www.teamwearireland.com/joma-premier-football-shirt---redyellow-6781-p.asp
  6. Fair enough but every other year has been poor or worse and it doesn't really make a difference to what I was saying.
  7. I'll be going for a nice day out and to support Thistle but let's not pretend it's a big trophy. It's a trophy sponsored by the shop muggers and burglars go to to try and swap the things they steal for money, for all the teams that aren't good enough to get into the SPL and the fans of teams in the SPL pish themselves at it. Face facts, Dundee Utd are a bigger team than Thistle and if they're a crap outfit then it doesn't say much for us who have been trying and failing miserably to get into the league that they play in for the past decade. The only exception being this year thanks to the man you're now all having a go at. Look on the bright side, we've been left in a position to challenge for promotion, still have all the same players, have saved a wage and will get some compensation.
  8. I'm disappointed that McNamara has left but not dissapointed with him. You can't expect a someone that has had as much success as he has as a player to be satisfied with a p*shy Ramsdens Cup Final and possible SFL1 title and in football you have to take your opportunities when they arrive because they might never come again. At the end of the day he's left us in a significantly better position than we were in when he took over as manager and we should be grateful to him and Donnelly for this. That people are on here namecalling is no surprise, if Man Utd had came in and asked him to take over from Sir Alec there'd still be idiots on here acusing him of disloyalty and calling him a c*nt. He signed a new deal recently that ensured the club got compensation when he left, he didn't need to do this and could probably have negotiated a better deal for himself when he left if he hadn't so it's hardly fair to make out as if he's been entirely self centred and couldn't care less about the club.
  9. In my opinion, a personal opinion can be wrong such as racist personal opinions, but then that's just my opinion. At the end of the day though if G SUS rates Doolan that highly then that's up to him, no need to crucify him for it, it's not terribly offensive stuff. It's always worth taking into account that transfers often don't work out and when you have a player who slots in effectively to the current system and is scoring goals it's often better the devil you know. I'd always go for the player proven at higher level although at Thompsons age it's possibly not such great value, Sutton is off the boil and Beattie has failed to settle anywhere so can see why someboday would see things the other way. For me Daly and Russell are a no brainer, both are proven at SPL level and still have years left in them. Neither is going to be offered to Thistle any time soon though.
  10. Different people getting the food to those handling the cash is what they did when I worked in Mcdonalds when it got really busy at Christmas shopping time and is by far the best way to speed up service. They even do this at Pollok games and it works well.
  11. Schools open 5 days a week not once a fortnight and will have much greater competition when tendering for catering contracts so again we're not really comparing eggs with eggs. There's nothing wrong with thinking big but thinking best stadiums in Europe big when you're loaded with debt and playing in front of 2500 people in the SFL is sigesige00 stuff. I don't know for sure though, maybe a card system could be affordable. I don't go to away games but does anybody know if a card system is used elsewhere in SFL? And if it isn't does every ground have the same problems? Still, even if they do sort out the queues, I wouldn't buy the sh*te food that's on offer.
  12. The card booths in Germany work well but then the Bundesliga averages 40,000+ attendances which make it worthwhile investing in expensive technologies. I'm not sure the same can be applied to Firhill.
  13. I thought saying "Do you know who ah um? Um the guy fae Kirkwood Castles" would get you in anywhere?
  14. Mid-week games are generally less well attended so that should be factored in as well. It'll also be six times now that Dumbarton will play Hamilton this season so plenty of opportunity for the fans to see the sides play again. And it won't be included in the season ticket.
  15. It would be nice but we're already opening the North Stand every week when at every game so far this season we could have accommodated both home and away fans in the JHS. We simply can't afford to do all the nice things.
  16. With the exception of the Dunfermline and Falkirk games we haven't had more than 3000 this season and are normally nearer the 2500 mark. Morton being up there in the league and likely to bring a decent support should see us break 3000 again but I wouldn't expect it to be like the Dunfermline game. Boxing Day is as likely to result in as many regulars being busy with family and not coming as non-regulars turning up because they have nothing to do and got £20 in their stocking. If we get the same number than went to Cappielow then that would be a good attendance for me. Anything more than that would be a great turn out.
  17. Football needs both good guys and bad guys, it's all part of the plot, but it also needs the bad guys to get caught more often than not and punished when they do. The problem nowadays is this isn't happening and therefore cheating becomes endemic. We've also got ourselves into the situation where cheating isn't even regarded as cheating anymore. The question asked is 'Was there contact' and if there is it's apparently a penalty when in fact the question should be 'Was there enough contact to make it a foul'. And even when there isn't contact and people are caught blatantly cheating like Santi Cazorla was a week ago they don't use the evidence to punish afterwards. The result is that there's very little to lose by cheating and lots to gain so it has become expected and is now the norm rather than the preserve of a few pantomime villians that we can all love to hate.
  18. A similar thing happened with Benteke in the Liverpool-Villa game yesterday except that it would take a cruz missilie to knock him off his feet and he smashed the ball into the back of the net. Tevez did the exact same as McGuigan a couple of weeks ago though and ended up putting his shot past the post and didn't even get a corner to show for his honesty. What I'm saying is that it's not just referees at our level who are making poor decisions here, the professionals in the 'biggest league in the world' are doing the exact same, punishing the honest and rewarding the cheats. It needs direction from a higher level, FIFA, UEFA, FA, SFA whoever. The whole notion that any contact in the box which results in a player throwing himself to the ground equals a penalty is ridiculous. In the same vein the conclusion that if a player stays on his feet no matter how hard you kick him isn't a penalty is equally as daft.
  19. Also, just watching the Italian football on ESPN. Apparently there were more Udinese fans at that game but they were in a different section of the stadium. I'd forgotten how difficult they make it to buy tickets for Italian football jagfox. A few friends and I turned up half and hour before kick off at the Stadio Olimpico for a Roma game a few years ago only to be told we had to get a bus into the city centre and find an official club shop to get a ticket. We watched the first half in a bar, there were about 40,000 empty seats. Thankfully the game was awful and finished 0-0 so we dodged a bullet and went to the Colisuem instead which was excellent. Anyway, the moral of the story is if you're in Italy and you want to go to a game you'll need top sort your tickets in advance. And the Coliseum is excellent.
  20. 2 of our 4 lowest home league attendances last season were against Raith with only 1832 and 1918 coming to those games. Factor in christmas shopping and parties, money being tight, the cold weather and that we played them at home in the cup recently and yesterday was to be expected. On the plus side it was still 400 up on what we got last year for the same fixture.
  21. Even on a cold Monday night 4 hours away it seems incredible that only one person showed up. Perhaps there isn't the same culture of travelling to away games in Italy as there is in the UK? This are the most recent articles I could find on declining football attendances in Italy, it doesn't mention travelling supports..... http://footballspeak...f-problems.aspx And another one from a few years ago.... http://www.guardian....nfootball.sport
  22. I know what you're saying peagreenboy, there's nothing worse than when a good thread descends into............pundemonium!
  23. My understanding was that they didn't appeal some tax dodging which they will have to pay back several million pounds for and were found not guilty of some other tax dodging that they did appeal against. The press has since cleared them of all wrong doing based on them being found not guilty of only some of the tax dodging they were accused of and not mentioned the stuff they did do because it will keep Rangers fans buying their sh*t papers. Also there's the £15million PAYE Craig Whyte bumped which sent them into administration which was never in question.
  24. That song's quite something, it should raise at least 2 or 3 pounds.
  25. At the end of the day the bing might not look the best but it's superficial only. Unless there's an opportunity to make some money for the club from advertising then there's really better things to be spending money on so unless we can get something donated I would just leave it as it is.
