  1. He surely isn't fit. At the kit launch he had a Ben Arfa-esque gut on him and it looked reallty unprofessional. Nobody seemed bothered about it. Sure the players need to rest and recouperate in pre-season but he looked as if he just battered the pub and world buffet on his 4 weeks off and turned up simply not in the condition of a professional footballer.
  2. and you're the one claiming everyone has their knickers in a twist. I made a mistake based on the facts that had been presented to me, various newspaper articles, posts from people who "claim" to know him etc. Big bad me eh! Still think theres more to it though than him simply choosing Thistle.
  3. It's not a ridiculous suggestion at all. I was simply pointing out that perhaps geography among other things gave us a stroke of luck in signing Stevenson.
  4. Not sure but it's my understanding he lives out the back of Drumchapel in the new estate at the Boulevard. I'm just pointing out that we were possibly extremely fortunate that some of his personal circumstances swayed him to Firhill. Because evidently we are being more frugal than other clubs when it comes to wages and contracts. It was common knowledge in the mdeia that Hearts had wanted him to take an overall 75% wage cut, which, with him being unable to drive at the moment, would have been almost pointless for him at the minute. This was the only reason he left Hearts. He was open and honest about the fact that he wanted to stay and wanted to be part of their rise back to the SPL. Did an interview in The Scotsman I think it was. I'm not sure if it was tongue in cheek, but he said when he signed for us, to a newspaper, that he wanted an extra 1000 a week from Dundee to cover taxi fares and they refused.
  5. Just takes me back to the bullsh*t that Beattie fed us in the STV interview where he said there would be finances in place to offer improved wages and actually named dropped Lyle Taylor as a player they could afford to bring to the club. Stevenson has been a great signing but let's be honest, the only reason we got him was because of his driving ban and the fact that he lives a short taxi journey from both the ground and the new training facility. The drop in wages was acceptable based on the money he would save on travel expenses over the season. That's not to say he wants to be a Thistle player and will give us his all. The playing budget surely is the most important aspect of the football business that these guys run. If we can't bring a high enough calibre of player to Firhill then we can't move up the table, we can't chase more lucrative sponsorship deals, we won't sell as many season tickets, sell as many strips or merchandise. Archie takes alot of the flack for being frugal with the signings and not bringing many in but at the end of the day he can only work with what he has in front of him and what the BoD provide.
  6. The signing of McFadden would be a breakthrough for the club somewhat, in terms of actually convincing other higher calibre players to come to the club. McFadden, althought he has had his injur problems, he's not a 35-36 year old. He's still a young man. The wealth of experience he would bring into such a young squad along with Stevenson is priceless. I couldnt give a shit how much we pay him. There were obviously additional funds in place to pay for Taylor if he signed for us and that fell through, so it would appear that the money is there to fund such a deal. Can anyone confirm if he has attended any further training sessions this week?
  7. Yeha but he will be returning to the town called SHEFFIELD. As specified in the post. Nugget.
  8. Kids don't go free in this instance do they? That's really the bottom line of it.
  9. Think the Joma top is better quality than the Puma top which was extremely thin and just in general not that great a fit. felt like a cagoul.
  10. To be honest the ship has sailed as far as the opportunity goes. I e-mailed the club with a full application as per the request on the website. If they've lost it then I am afraid that just sums up the professionalism of the way things operate. I genuinely don't think the club themselves know who they are looking for in regards to that job. That's alot of work for one person. Its 2 roles that would require 2 degrees in each field to be competent enough to do it. Someone who is good at marketing probably knows naff all about the licensed trade and smoeone who runs a good bar operation wouldnt surely know the first thing about marketing and advertising. I was just lucky enough to have had some experience as an events promoter aswell as completing a degree in Hospitality Management. The marketing stuff is more voluntary but hospitality is my career. I would have thought that with pre season approaching this post will be filled and they will be (or at least should be) hard at work drawing up a plan for next season.
  11. Have experience of management in the licensed trade. I applied for this post. But heard zilch from the club in response. I had sampled all of the corporate hospitality packages (or had someone do it on my behalf in some instances, as timescaled were tight) and drew comparisons to our hospitality and how we can improve in that area of the business. Having had experience in driving sales and custom in the Pub trade I had a fair idea of how I wanted t improve the Matchday experience for the fans within the stadium. For me the Sky stuff woudlnt be worth while unless the club took the decision to open the bar on non matchdays for Champions League etc. It costs several thousands of pounds per month and the cost of that alone is not worth your while if you are opening one day a week. I expected at least to get an interview so I could put my proposals across but did not hear anything back at all regarding my applicaion. It is a concern though with this job in particuar...the person who is in charge of the cirporate hospitality & bar management is also the same person who has to drum up advertisers for the programme and stadium trackside. Seems like two entirely different skill sets. I can only assume there are people out there at smaller clubs doing a similar roleho would make the step up to a job like this.
  12. Why open the Main Stand for anyone? Wasn't that part of the thinking behind moving the Hospitality form the Aitken Suite into the JH?
  13. When I first bought my ST it was for the JH stand and always was. The North end of the ground has historically always housed away fans. Different entrances to that end of the ground from maryhill road etc means that Jags fans and away fans can pretty much be kept seperate altogether. That's always been the case. For that reason alone I'm surprised the NS situation was put through in the first place. It must cost the club money in terms of a bigger police presence when you have Jags fans entering the NS and the away fans going into the MS on the same street at the same time.
  14. Supported the club for 20+ years. Held a season ticket n the Jackie Husband since it opened. Admittedly have not attended as many games due to work but still attend on an ad-hoc basis. Have sat in both the JH and the NS last season several times. I used to sit around or near the back left of the JH when the "singing" section was there. Is that good enough for you? If the view isn't the main reason you go the Firhill then why do you go? I pay at the gate and I walk in and I take my place and watch the match and support the team. I went into the NS for St Mirren game because I wanted an atmosphere, but when I got there I realised I couldn't see anything pretty much, unless it was in the North half of the pitch. Doolans goal, couldn't see shit...could only see a net ruffling. What I do find difficult to understand is why so many people are getting really arsey about the matter, as to where they sit on a matchday.
  15. I have been in the North Stand a few times this season. enjoy the atmosphere but the view is garbage. Surely JH stand would give a better view of the game? The atmosphere is what you make of it surely? if the same group has their own section in the JH then there shouldn't be a problem with that. People withholfing their ST in favour of this just seems a bit ludicrous. In the interest of the club being more profitable. Why should they have 10,000 or so AVAILABLE seats on a matchday when their home average gate is around half of that. As the various extis in and around the staium would still have to be stewardded even if only a few folk were sitting there?
  16. So can all these peopl who stand in the NS, sing in the NS, can they not just go and take a section of the JH and do the same thing there?
  17. Sucks ot be Lennon right now on the basis that he was basically shafted by both the St Mirren BoD and his Assistant. Talks must sutely have been had behind his back with Craig, Goodwin and Teale about them taking over next season. Too quick a turnaround to think otherwise. Awful treatment.
  18. Anyone else reading this thread and thinking this is all a wee bit much?
  19. Got to wonder at this point what benefit the Performance Analyst is to the club when the same errors are being made. What's happening with the data he is collecting and how are they using it? Because all of these points dropped so late in the game - Christ it doesn't even take an analyst to pinpoint the problem but at the same time could give more insight as to why this is happening. Might not be the first thing on the minds of many on the forum but I do feel it's an important aspect of the game in this day and age and we are one of the clubs who took the plunge and made an investment in this...much to the dismay of several fans on here. So where's the results??
  20. Peronally I thought it was Taylor and thought Mair had a cool game.
  21. Disagree if you want. I thought Erskine was sh*te last night. I'm not forgetting his contribution last season at all. But this isn't last season and this isn't the 1st Division. As for the formation comments. What I saw last night was an abundance of individual errors and not necessarily tactical errors. St Johnstone were garbage aswell. With most of the TV games I have seen Thistle match these teams but they have players who can create a chance out of thin air and we don't really. I stand by it just now that I don't think he is the answer but finger crossed come May everyone can come back here and get it up me.
  22. I don't get to many games due to work commitments but was lucky enough to make it along last night. A few random observations.... Chris Erskine for me is a very Samaras-esque player. He played sideways a lot of the time last night, as did a lot of the team. Some displays of skill with the ball at his feet yes, but he had his head down and wasn't heading for goal. Lyle Taylor is a workhorse of a player. Higginbotham just seemed to play scrappy for most of the night. Not really any substance to what he was doing with the ball, 90% of the time he lost possession and St Johnstone went on the break. Gallagher seems like a better choice in goal just now due to experience and seems like he has a wiser head to try and control the defence. Gary Fraser is a bombscare, and played Thistle into trouble in their own half several times. Some of the plays being made in the central defensive midfield area, again sideways, were putting the ball right into the hands of Saints in a dangerous area. People are blaming Archie and yes, he brought those players in but at the same time he worked with what he had and has produced a decent squad from his resources. Unfortunately a few of the starting 11 for me personally aren't up to scratch with this level of football. Archie can't be held responsible for the individual decisions the players are making on the pitch. The tactics themselves are good, but the players aren't clicking on the pitch as individuals and in turn we are becoming a liability as a team. Saints were rotten last night and they produced a goal out of bugger all. The stand out thing for me last night was that Erskine didn't seem interested and isn't the Erskine we all know and love. Maybe this is down to match fitness or motivation. Some fans have these guys on a pedestal. Again similar to the Celtic fans' evaluation of Samaras. Erskine ran from one side of the park to the other with the ball at his feet, with his head down, with the ball a yard or two in front of him, and eventually he lost the ball and that was the play over. Yet he was applauded for it. Apologies this is all in one paragraph, for some reason it wouldn't let me start a new one.
