  1. Strange how two people at the same game can have total opposing views. I was in my usual place in the North Stand and I actually said to my mate 10 mins into the game that I thought the supporters sounded more vocal than in some recent home games. That carried on until the 20th minute or so when our whole team capitulated and went into hibernation. It was only then that the supporters spent more time shouting at individuals than singing collectively. And quite rightly. The team were a disgrace on Saturday and don't deserve any protection from criticism. Archie has been more than patient with them and they showed no loyalty with their lack of effort. I truly think our support are the best in the country, you only have to look at some of our away game numbers. But no supporters in the world would watch that garbage and still keep singing for their team. We do try to be the 12th man, but the team have a responsibility to put the effort in if the supporters are expected to do the same. We have to pay for the privilege of being at Firhill, whilst the players are paid for being there. You would have thought it was the other way round on Saturday.
  2. Totally disagree LIB. Hearts were definitely up for it, you're right there. But what makes a game of football competitive is when both teams are putting the effort in. I have spend much money supporting our team home and away for many many years and some times you walk away feeling deflated by defeat but knowing that at least the team tried their best. I will always accept defeat when the best team has won. But lack of interest in unforgivable, and that's what some of our players showed at the weekend. I have never seen our team looking so disinterested. So much so, that when Hearts scored their goals, our guys solemnly walked back up to the half way line looking like they wanted to be elsewhere. No shouting, no encouragement, no interest. Just quietly walking back up the park. It isn't a case of zero to hero, it's simply a case that every player that makes a living from our club MUST put in the effort in EVERY game. Anything less is simply condoning laziness and that will always be unacceptable to me. I have never left a game of football feeling so angry with our players. We can't always defend our players in all circumstances. If criticism is due, then they have to accept it and make sure it doesn't happen again. They deserve a good rollicking for that shambolic non event on Saturday.
  3. Couldn't agree any more. The team were a collective disgrace yesterday and showed no commitment or hunger of any kind that will win football matches. Whatever time off their were due should be cancelled and instead they should be attending de-briefs with Archie and discussing at length why there was no passion from them yesterday. They don't have to win games to keep me happy, but they do need to show that they want to play for the club and it's supporters.
  4. Interesting point Lindau. I agree with you. It was like most of them were all feeling as weak as water. God help us if there is a bug about he place. Today's effortless display will can't be repeated.
  5. Appreciate your attempt to reduce the impact of today's team 'performance' peagreenboy but as a supporter, I will not show the same apathy for my club as the players did today. I went to Perth last week and the effort was there, if not the performance, so I was prepared to take any result that came our way. Same as all the other games I have been to over the years. But today the lack of effort was shocking and disrespectful to the club and it's supporters. Such lack of desire is NEVER acceptable and the players need to take a long hard look at themselves. I'm making a wild assumption here, but I'm going to guess you weren't at the game today? Otherwise I suspect you would feel equally angered by the team. If you didn't make it to the game, you are a lucky man, cause I wish I hadn't. The players will have disposable income and I don't think for a minute that losing a weeks income will render them penniless. It would show that they care about the club and it's supporters, some of whom have to save and budget to attend Thistle games.
  6. Indeed it does Lindau. Defeat is acceptable and sometimes inevitable, but Thistle players should always show effort and today that was absent. There were some who were worse/lazier than others but the complacency and apathy just seemed to run right through the team today after 20 mins. It was like someone had put lead in their boots. I always return home from a game with my voice half gone because of the amount of cheering/singing and encouragement I give the team but today they didn't deserve the fans' vocal support. If they can't be bothered turning up, they shouldn't be taking a wage.
  7. That was without doubt the most gutless performance I have seen from a Thistle team in a long time and easily the most embarrassing display all season. The gulf in hunger between the two teams was so obvious, but yet totally inexcusable given that we were playing at home and didn't play midweek like Hearts did. I am not normally a big critic of our players and I always back them up when they make mistakes because we all do. Anyone that has played football at any level knows that you can have a bad day at the office for no apparent reason and there is nothing you can do about it. I understand that and will never overly criticise our players for trying someone that doesn't come off or making a poor pass among many good ones. But today's performance lacked one thing that should always be on display regarding of how the team is performing. Guts. It looked the players couldn't give a damn today and that is simply not good enough. I have been to every home game this season and many away games and I will return again to the next game because I love Thistle and will support them through thick and thin. I don't mind losing a game of football (We wouldn't be Thistle fans if we had an issue with that) and if we end up relegated, I'll accept it and move on. But you at least have to try FFS. I don't want Archie sacked, I don't want players dropped and I don't want to change the way we play the game. But what I DO want is for every Thistle player who took part in that non event today, to surrender their wages this week and donate them to a local charity. Not only would it be an excellent gesture and good publicity for the club but it might also act as a wake up call to some of these so called players of ours that today's lack of effort was simply not good enough. Not effort = no wages.
  8. Well done Gress, a guy offers his honest opinion and you respond like a bitter wee shite with a big chip on your shoulder. That's the way mate. Knock yourself out. And what DUFC's stadium is got to do with the price of cheese I don't know. Better stadium than ours so not sure what your point is, other than just heckling the guy for giving his opinion. Anyway, for what it's worth, I'm a massive fan of Erskine and am over the moon that Archie has brought him back. He scored some amazing goals last season to get us promotion and hopefully he can bring back some of that creativity to the team again. But let's try and be objective. Erskine was a hero for us in the Championship. That's not to say he will definitely perform at the same level in the Premiership. Look at some of our guys who were brilliant last year but have struggled to step up (Balatoni/Craigen/Elliott). I obviously hope Chrissie will do well and I think he will, but DUFCfan doesn't think so and he watches his team every week, so at least he can talk from first hand experience. Thanks for joining the thread and giving your opinion DUFCfan.
  9. Unfortunately I was in the Q at Tynecastle and it was a shambles. Only 2 turnstiles opened up to 3pm and a further 2 opened at kick off time. I spoke to a steward who said that Hearts had underestimated the number of cash paying supporters. There was obviously no plan B and Thistle cannot be blamed for it. The reason for the queue became apparent when I got to the turnstile as the guy sober a whole minute counting out my 3 x pounds coins and 5x 20p's before slowly ripping a ticket out if the book for me. Who the f**k wants a ticket? We don't do that at thistle! To make matters worse, the guy behind the turnstile next to mine had no change and couldn't let the guy through till change arrived. And this at 3pm? Awful...
  10. Geez peagreeenboy, you certainly seem to be in an awkward mood. Let's try is again, as it seems you still don't understand my last post. IF, and it now appears to be a big ask, IF you can separate the atmosphere that is created by Well fans, from any associated violence/Ned culture etc, then you will be able to respond properly to the initial post, which was all about atmosphere generated by drums/clapping etc. I'm not necessarily disagreeing with your opinion that those who generate such atmospheres may well come with baggage. But that's not the thread. It's a discussion about whether the drums/synchronised clapping creates a good atmosphere. And in my opinion it does. My opinion on the Well Ultras and hooliganism etc. is a totally separate discussion. Try and keep with the program peagreenboy.
  11. B*****s. That's not good.
  12. Peagreenboy, it would appear that you take exeption to anyone who has a different opinion to you. I gave my opinion, but would never suggest everybody should have to agree with me. You are entitled to your opinion and it's ok to be different. It's not a problem to have a different view. I would have thought though that you could pick a better example of proving your point, than comparing watching a movie to following the Jags. Who would you be 'disloyal' to by leaving a movie early? The director, the actor? Makes no sense. However, as a fellow Jags fan, I respect your opinion.
  13. Well, we'll need to agree to disagree. I've never left a game early. Staying till the end, even during a heavy defeat (needless to say, happened a few times) is the ultimate show of loyalty. Just a personal opinion.
  14. Not at all peagreenboy. With respect you are completely missing my point and seem too quick to criticise other people's opinions without understanding them. Let me try and make it simpler to understand from one jags fan to another. My realistic expectations are that we will finish 10th and stay in the league. Plain and simple. Nothing more. But in doing so, I also expected to COMPETE with the other teams in this league that I mentioned. There is a massive difference between winning games and being competitive in them. Do Hull City expect to beat Man U? No. But do they expect to be competitive? Yes. And they have been. I wouldn't mind getting beat in EVERY game by ALL of those teams this season if at least I felt we were competing. But we haven't been. I have supported Thistle for over 25 years and I recall our so called provincial club under the Lambie era 'competing' successfully with the Old Firm, never mind your Motherwells. Did we take many points off them? No chance. But did we let them know they had a game when the final whistle went? You better believe it. If I wanted to support a consistently winning team, I clearly wouldn't have followed Thistle for so long. But there's nothing wrong with expecting more. Stop berating your own supporters for having a bit of ambition peagreenboy.
  15. Mmmmm.....try and stick with the thread mate. We're trying to share honest opinions on the atmosphere that was generated by Well fans. What's the GB got to do with anything?
  16. After today's embarrassing result and the same old team, tactics and substitutions being applied every week, I think it's time to bring in Plan B. We need to start again at the basics and try and get some clean sheets to get the confidence going. With that in mind here it my Plan B formation. Gallagher O'Donnell. Muirhead. Balatoni. ATS Piccolo Osborne (when fit). Bannigan Higginbottom. Lawless Doolan
  17. I agree. If we disregard the fact that they're a bunch of wee sh1tes for a moment, I think the atmosphere they created was decent. The Well players would have heard them from the pitch and that's what it's all about at the end of the day. Don't like the 'Ultra' element of it, but for atmosphere alone I thought they were good.
  18. Jesus, talk about being ultra defensive. A form of bullying? You serious? The truth of the matter is that despite witnessing no wins at home this season, the North Stand have been pretty superb and were very vocal again today, despite the heavy defeat. The only thing I would agree with is the fans leaving early bit. I've never understood it, I always stay till the end. The "ole" shouts were started as a bit of light relief and at end of the game where even a 15th man wouldn't have mattered a jot. God knows, we needed some relief from watching that torture. I tend to be more supportive than critical of players that I pay my hard earned cash to watch, but if I feel they are not trying hard enough (Forbes and Baird the best examples) then your damn right I'll shout at the lazy sods. Or even try and "ole" them into action! Does that make me a bully? Or someone who cares about my team? Stop being so critical of your fellow supporters, you bully!
  19. A lot has been said on this topic and without wishing to duplicate anything that's already been said.... I don't believe any of us were expecting fireworks this season, but I personally thought we would have improved enough to be able to at least compete on a game by game basis with the likes of Aberdeen/Arabs/Motherwell. I don't mean beating them, I just mean competing. However apart from the Utd draw on the opening day of the season, we have been otherwise outclassed each time. The blame for that IMO lies with Archie's signings and those he kept/released. Buying Baird and Piccolo for example, but releasing Steven Craig and Andy Dowie made no sense to me at the time and still doesn't. I don't want Archie sacked but he needs to learn from his mistakes and not repeat as many in future transfers windows. At the end of the day, we have to accept that Archie will be staying for the full season and on that basis get behind him and the team to try and attain that 10th spot at worst. That's what I'll be doing. C'mon the Jags!
  20. Well not quite, but was at the game yesterday anyway. The 1st half was just about the most frustrating 45 mins you can experience. Slow in the tackle, backing off too deep and players caught out of position too many times, the main culprit being McMillan. United are a better side than us, no doubt about that. But we were making a rod for own backs by giving them far too much time and space in possession. They were simply passing right through us. While I appreciate McMillan hasn't had a run of games this season, his positional sense was terrible. Almost like he got confused what areas he was supposed to be defending. He got continually pulled into the central area leaving the left flank totally exposed. It was like chalk and cheese in the first 15 mins of the 2nd half, the players came out to press and hussle and some of the crunching tackles were great to see. It told on the Utd players who looked a bit phased. Unfortunately McMillans poor positional play led to the 2nd goal and it was downhill for there. Thought Osborne was immense and Craigan showed a lot of desire. Didn't expect us to necessarily pick up any points yesterday, but to stand a chance we need to come out of the traps a lot earlier, instead of allowing passing teams like Utd to settle on the ball for long periods. The first 15 minutes of the second half made the trip worthwhile on its own though.
  21. Agreed. This subject specific post started as fun before Mighty Quinn decided to hijack it with paedophile references that have nothing to do with the discussion. Don't understand why some people do that. Anyway, I also can't understand why this numpty makes a serious living from sport journalism. I once phoned in to the Sportsound many years ago when Lambie was in charge and Chic Charnley was on fire. I wanted to discuss why he wasn't being given a Scotland cap. Chic Young said he didn't think Chicco was better than the current capped players and when I asked if he had seen Chicco in action that season, he admitted he hadn't. Total buffoon.
  22. Have to agree with just about everything that's been posted on the game so far. I think it was clear that we just didn't turn up or the game and the loss of Balatoni from the team was huge for us. Piccolo was shocking but if Archie, who has a far better football brain than I do, sees potential there, then I support him. Generally the only pass marks that are being given out here, are for Foxy and Higgy, both of which I agree on. But I also think Muirhead had a very good game. The problem was, he identified early on that Piccolo was having a shocker and had to cover for him a number of times. The risk that comes with that, is that it pulls you out of position and can make you look bad when you've lost your own marker. I was paying special attention to our centre halves and this is exactly what was happening. In the circumstances I thought big Aaron played very well. God help us if he had a stinker too! On another note, it was like a morgue in the North Stand (where I go), even before the Dons scored their first. Poor performance from the team but the worst performance from the North Stand boys (and girls) for some time too! The crack just wasn't there. Hope it was a one off.
  23. @The Jukebox Rebel You are totally spot on regarding thepeagreenboy. A total walloper whose clear inability to separate two entirely different events makes him look like an eejit. The events of last night involved vandalism and hooliganism. The pitch invasion on Saturday did not. In fact, quite the opposite. Conrad Balatoni came down to the pitch from the main stand to join in with us, wrapped his arms round me and my mate, and then joined us in singing championees. Aaron Muirhead was also loving it. Clearly not the same. It was a great end to a great home season and peagreenboy needs to understand the difference between action and intent. That said The Jukebox Rebel, and I won't go down the guys throat too much because I know he's your pal, but your mates actions in goading the Dunfermline fans while carrying his young boy, were totally out of order and exactly the kind of behaviour we would expect from the green and blue idiots, not from a Jags fan. To be honest, I can't understand why he was at all motivated to goad the Fifers instead of focussing on celebrating with his fellow Harry Wraggs. But to do so whilst carrying his wee boy, is only exposing that boy to the kind of crap we expect from the Auld Firm. I went on to the Dunfermline fans forum after the game, and they praised the Jags fan in general, but picked out your mate as being the idiot who was the exception. He was getting called a typical weegie ned who wasn't fit to be a Dad etc. A bit harsh I accept, but otherwise, the Fifers would have singing our praises about how good we were and not discussing your mate. Quite simply, he let himself down, but he has embarrassed the club we all support as well. I know you mention he spends loads of time coaching kids etc. That is a great thing and I applaud him for that. But in many ways, that makes his actions worse. He should have known better. A whole lot better! I genuinely don't mean to slate the guy, and I accept your word that he is a decent guy and a good friend. But we all need to remember we are trying to promote a family friendly club and that image of your mate does very little to enhance that.
  24. We all love singing "The love of my life" song, a real favourite this season. But here's a thing..... would you really let Archie and Shaggy have carnal relations with your wife............if it meant the Jags won the Scottish Cup next year? Mmmmmmmmmm......... Answers on a postcard please!
