  1. As someone who avidly follows the national Rugby team, as well as the Harry Wraggs, I think bringing back alcohol back to football games would be a big mistake. When I go to Cardiff, Dublin etc for the Rugby games, I always enjoy a good bucket before and after the game. That is the culture of national rugby and it works well. Why? Because there is no segregation, no hatred, and the generally speaking the sport encourages a different type of fan. i.e. fans who can get drunk but know when to draw the line. Do we ever see lines of police officers at Rugby games? No, because the rugby fans don't act like morons when they get drunk. Win, lose or draw, we all go back to the same pub and discuss the game. Football on the other hand, is a totally different matter. We (I mean football generally, not just Firhill) get separated from the opposition supporters like gangs being kept apart, we spend part of the game calling each ******s etc, we then have to go to our own specific pub that opposition supporters are not welcome in. You get the picture? I genuinely love football as much as I do Rugby, but having attended both sports for over 25 years, I cannot see football fans behaving as responsibly as rugby fans when under the influence. In any case, look at how successful our free entry for under 16's has been. Great success and it has encouraged loads of young lads to come along to the games. Why potentially spoil it by letting a minority get pished and put people off coming to the game with their kids. We have loved this season for the football that Jags have played. Would we have enjoyed it any better with a few beers on our bellies? I doubt it.
  2. The songs have been flowing this season with some new belters to add to the growing list, "Maryhill is wonderful" and "AA The love my life". I reckon we easily have the best variety of songs in Scottish football. But my favourite is the classic Mary fae Maryhill. Always loved that song, especially the 2nd verse. I love the fact it's got hee haw to do with fitba! In fact, it reminds me of an ex, but that's another story! It's been sung a few times in recent games but not had the same momentum as when sung years ago. Would love to hear the North Stand bring it back as a regular chant next year. What tops the pops for everybody else?
  3. Quite simply if McNaJudasMara has stayed away from any game because of potential abuse from fans, he's in the wrong profession. Can you imagine Lambie or even our Archie, avoiding a game for that reason. It's part of the game and part of the banter. Becoming quite the choirboy is our ex manager!
  4. I agree with peagreenboy. Erskine hasn't kicked a ball for some weeks now. He's a great player on his day, I think we would all agree with that, but lately he's been out of sorts. His first touch has deserted him. I would put him on the subs bench next game and give Craig and Doolan a go up front together with Lawless and Forbes supporting. Assuming we go on to win the league, Erskine and Paton will be as responsible for getting us there as any other player, so we have to thank them for their efforts and wish them the best. Hopefully they will both reserve their worst games next year against the Mighty Jags.
  5. With Archie's record in his short time as Manager already going down as the best run in Thistle history, his reputation as one of the best Jags managers ever already appears secure. And there are quite a few....Lambie, McParland, Easton for example. But who is the worst.....DJ? MacLeod? Collins? I'm going for John McVeigh, only slightly above Murdo MacLeod. Under him, we got relegated to the 2nd division and the standard of football was so crap it was hard to watch!
  6. Why do people continually harp on about Freedom of speech, and then believe this freedom extends to being offensive, inappropriate and on some occasions, inhumane. Am I free to call my neighbour all them names under the sun? No, because it is not what freedom of speech is there for. Freedom of speech was protected by our forefathers to allow us to air our views and beliefs without fear of reprisal or punishment and we shouldn't embarrass ourselves by trying to now extend this to cover all things. I totally disagreed with most Thatcher policies but in my freedom of speech world, I could talk about that openly with everyone and then vote against her and those policies. THAT is freedom of speech. But revelling in her death and jumping on her grave? That's NOT freedom of speech. That's sad, repulsive, and only idiots would do such a thing. And it's due those idiots that we need moderators on these forums.
  7. What a fantastic night. A great result, an amazing crowd, and now just a couple of results away from winning the league. And to top it all off, we get The Return of the King, Sir John Lambie. It was great to see him back at Firhill and the cracking memories from those grand ol' heady days came flooding back. I thought I would start a thread to get some fans favourite memories from Lambie's time in charge. I have two. First one. We were getting thrashed by Aberdeen at home, 3-0 down at half time thanks to a Duncan Shearer hat trick. We were getting trounced big time. Towards the end of the 1st half, the heavens opened and it snowed like nothing I have seen before. Our sole groundsman came on the pitch with a broom which he tried to use to clear the lines of snow, however he only managed 10 yards before the brush snapped in two and he slowly walked off the pitch. Seconds later, the announcer informed us the game was abandoned and the result void. We then replayed the game and won it!! Only the Jags. The second one, is plain and simple. Going to France to see the mighty Jags in Europe against Metz in the Intertoto Cup. What a night! What an era.
  8. We shouldn't be looking for excuses as to why we lost the penalty shoot out. The fact of the matter is that it should never have got that stage n the first place. We are a league above QoS but didn't' show our qualities on the day. And whenever it comes to penalties, it's just a lottery. It's our own fault for losing, not the fault of the small number of supporters who entered the pitch. Anyway, we'll now make up for it by winning the league.
