  1. Would you rather we played at Scotstoun, while Thistle wen't out of buisness and Firhill was sold for flats? nah, didn't think so! And we wouldn't be the first professional rugby club to play on astroturf if Thistle did that. The faded (well, the green football lines stood out better than the white rugby ones yesterday..) lines running the width of the pitch, slightly closer to half-way than the edge of the box. (22 meters from where our try line is)
  2. Pitch was a feckin mess before the game today (take it this is, in part atleast, because of yesterday?) - was expecting it to be awful come FT today, but actually held up fairly well. Except that is, the area between the 22's on the JHS side - which has practically no grass on it. Take it that is a drainage issue? No other way it could be so much worse than the rest of the pitch, is there? Anyway, two fantastic home wins this weekend - just a shame they are all too rare for both sides.
  3. I think it was more the contract re-negotiations at the end of that season, where the SRU demanded that if they were going to take the blame for the pitch being unplayable, then they wanted control over the maintanence aswell. It was Thistle's responsibility to turn the heating on for that game, but its now Glasgows responsibility (I believe) The SRU will be doing everything they can to get our game on the 27th on (they are hoping for a crowd of 10,000 - won't get that on a wedensday night during the 6 Nations!), so unless there is heavy snowfall on xmas day/boxing day morning that makes the surrounding roads 'dangerous' I would expect your game will be on. Ofcourse, that assumes the Glasgow team are going to be back in Scotland before then. Saturdays HC game in Toulouse has been moved to tuesday evening because the players kit is lost in heathrow!
  4. There are posts up, but nothing more. I don't think it's quite true that you can't fit a rugby pitch in, but you can't get an entierly grass one inside a running track. You can get the actual pitch in (and ofcourse football pitches too) but when the track goes round the corner it cuts out part of the in-goal area Fairly easy to get round though: several grounds in France host rugby regularly and have athletics tracks - they simply put a bit of astroturf over the track in the in-goal area. Like this.
  5. Just back - crowd was announced at just under 3,000, but the club were expecting up to about 6,000 (the North stand was ready to be opened - which they only do if they are expecting considerably more than 5,000) I would think the cold weather, and the uncertainty over the game until this morning, will have affected the crowd badly. Incidentally, Toulouse are quite possibly the best team to ever play at Firhill (unless I have a mental blank over the time Real Madrid visited ) - it's just a shame James Jones decided to rise to the occassion and give quite possibly the most inept refereeing performance ever seen at Firhill. Only plus point is that all of Europe was watching - surely now the muppet will get sacked? Pitch was cutting up quite badly around the centre spot at the first scrum, but held up pretty well after that. It's still better than Fir Park
  6. Fridays game is ON - but no decision re: spectators until tomorrow.
  7. If the game is played behind closed doors, I probably will just turn up anyway. (IF Glasgow win - and it's a bloody big IF - it would be one of our most famous victories to date. And having already missed the win in Toulouse for no good reason (I am still kicking myself about that) I am not prepared to risk missing another) And what made you think Firhill's pitch is bigger than Hampden's? the pitch at Hampden I believe is the biggest allowed for international football - and there is enough grass they could easilly make it considerably bigger!)
  8. Logistically, there is no reason why not. The pitch is big enough (no surprise there), it has held rugby before ect. But I would be amazed if the SRU were prepared to move there (and pay to rent the ground) instead of using Murrayfield. that would be thinking about the best interests of the fans, and the SRU don't do that.. Something coming up about it on Reporting Scotland BTW
  9. Apparently there is a €50,000 fine if the Glasgow-Toulouse game isn't played this weekend! (although it doesn't have to be played at Firhill - no reason it can't be moved to Murrayfield on saturday for example) Needless to say, the club are apparently fairly confident the game will take place at Firhill - but apparently there is a chance it could be behind closed doors (A financial disaster for the club)
  10. the European Champions are at Firhill on friday - and it's the SRU's responsibility to maintain the pitch. Glasgow cannot afford for that game to not go ahead (postponing it isn't an option, we forfeit the points if it isn't played this weekend). The SRU will be dooing everything possible to ensure the pitch is kept playable this week. If the game is called off (from what I have seen of Glasgow, I suspect it will be when, not if) it will most likely be for the areas around the ground, not for the pitch. Or so I hope atleast...
  11. 288 - nearer to 300 than 200. Everyone has just rounded it down to make it seem ridiculous. Infact 300 seats would sound just fine does anyone know if we can expect a final decision to be reached (and announced) on tuesday?
  12. Believe the SRU are paying for the USH. Quite glad tonights game is off: we were looking at quite a small crowd, and the Scotland guys could do with a decent rest ahead of the Toulouse game next friday. I think it was the areas around the ground, and the conditions for Treviso travelling that have seen this week called off, not the pitch.
  13. to be considered on tuesday http://www.glasgow.gov.uk/councillorsandcommittees/submissiondocuments.asp?submissionid=47648
  14. Really? My seat is at the back! (although it is known that the AR lounge is being used as an additional supporters bar that day) You can exchange your voucher up until the end of November I believe (October deadline was before tickets were released for public sale, and hence you would get the best seats going. Still plenty of good seats for sale though). You may even be able to change it after that, but if you are planning on going then I would suggest you get your ticket sooner rather than later.
  15. Just got my tickets for the Glasgow-Edinburgh game through the door - does anyone know which section at Firhill is section 3? (funilly enough, I know its between sections 2 and 4, before I get any smart arses answering ) Don't think I have ever seen section numbers in the JH stand, and a quick look at photo's of the stand tells me there are 8 stairwells, and 9 blocks of seating - yet the SRU seating plan only has 7 sections. Anyone shed some light?
  16. The Earl Haig fund (the scottish appeal) all goes to veterans in Scotland - but looking at the poppies on the english shirts, it would appear they have just designed their own. I have never seen the one Everton were wearing in my life! (although there are tons of variations - for example, New Zealand use a poppy with 5 petals) Did Sunderland not wear one atall?
  17. 56,127 Oh wait, you mean Thistle v Morton...
  18. top of the pool!!! :D A very decent win last night against a team who came up with one goal - break DTH. Newport never looked like scoring last night (except when they resorted to throwing the ball forwards), and had we had a ref who even had a basic understanding of the rules, we could have put some real points on the board. Still don't know how they kept 15 (the cynic in me says 16) players on the pitch. A bit dissapointed not to get the bonus point TBH, we had the chances to do it (G-Dog butchered a certain try early in the second half, and DTH came very close - so close infact the try looked good from my seat). but given past performances, I will take a fairly solid win versus Newport that now ensures we WILL have something to play for when Toulouse come calling in december. Hopefully we can get a massive crowd in for that one, and hopefully sneak a win that means we still have something to play for in january. (4 wins - 3 home and away to Newport - could be enough for a Challenge Cup QF. The team are certainly capable of it) Just because it looks fantastic: Pool 6: 1. Glasgow Warriors 4pts 2. Stade Toulousain 0pts 3. London Wasps 0pts 4. Newport-Gwent Dragons 0pts (no attendance as yet, but the atmosphere last night was fantastic once again. the ref was scared to come over to the JH stand side by the end!)
  19. anyone know when the final is/who it's against? We could really do with another gold - Wales are in danger of overtaking us soon!
  20. Allocated seats - otherwise we can't get any more than the 8,800 from last season in. Don't know exactly what the deal with Thistle ST's are, but would imagine it will be similar to ours, in which case you will need to send the vouchers away to be exchanged for match-tickets. (think you can also hand them in to the ticket office on matchdays). As an aside - tickets are now on sale via the SRU ticket site for a bargain £10 (both JH stand and Main stand are available at the moment) Crowds this season have been quite decent actually - 2,800, 3,000 and 3,4000 (Leinster, Connacht and Munster respectivly). Not bad, given the injuries/departures/stupid KO times/Scotland football games clashing/the way we played v Connacht... Hopefully we can get a bumper crowd tomorrow night (last time our first home game was on a friday we got 5,000. Although that was Toulouse) and get our season back on track.
  21. Don't know about Thistle ST's, but the Glasgow ones came with a form that had to be filled in and sent away (by the end of October) - also giving the option for extra tickets for a tenner. You didn't get a similar form with your ST? E-mail Glasgow and ask them - generally found them to be fairly good at responding to questions (despite there being practically no office staff) - [email protected]
  22. hmm - an improvment on previous weeks, but we should have won that on friday. Take away the 17 points we gifted them at the start of the second half, and we would have infact But still, that Munster team is probably the strongest side we have seen at Firhill since we moved there outside of HC games (only Toulouse I would say were stronger) - and there were some fantastic signs from Glasgow. There are the makings of a very good team there, just need a bit more experience and to learn to cut out the silly mistakes (although Stortoni dropped only his second high ball in over 50 games for Glasgow - when that happens you know it isn't your day). I just hope the support stick with them until the results come (3,432 on friday, and the atmosphere in the first half was excellent!) Ravenhill next week will be tough - Ulster have a very good side this season and I reckon they could well challenge for the title. That said, if we play the way we played in the first half on friday we are perfectly capable of winning. Hopefully it will come together in time for the opening HC game against Newport a week on friday though - would be great if we could hump them and put that to bed.
  23. I heard they were trying to smoke one of the salmon-d pink shirts from a few seasons back... (i'll get my coat)
  24. Except it is entirely believable! I could understand if they had decided Scott Morgan's incident wasn't worthy of a red - if the linesman wasn't biased that was a yellow card TBH - but to give the reason as "not satisfied that the player struck the opponent". FFS did they watch the TV footage? As for Aled Brew, how dangerous would it have had to be to be worthy of a red? what if it had broken DTH's neck, and he was lying in a welsh hospital like Thom Evans before him. Would it be a red card offence then? In actual fact, that was a red card offence - according to the rules set out by the IRB. So either the WRU panel was totally unaware of the laws of the game, or they have deliberatly ignored them to clear one of their own teams players... I know which my money is on.. Of course what makes it worse is that, while normally a citing doesn't have any effect for the opponents on the day (unless its a gouging charge where the punishment is often measured in years), with the regularity of games between us and Newport we are playing them again in 3 weeks. Aled Brew should be banned for that game, what are the chances he scores a try or two? Yet had he made that tackle in the HC game, he would have been banned (probably for ~6 weeks) by a disciplinary panel made up of English, Irish and French officials
  25. I have realised that now from other people - but didn't see that on sunday?! What time did that happen?
