So having watched the edited highlights ……
we will lose money in financial years : 23-24, 24-25 and 25-26 at an average of over £200k a year to a total of £640k. At that point tranche 1 and 2 will be gone.
part of this can explained by the Board , to use Woodstock jags technical term, ‘taking a punt’ this season to win promotion in what has been assessed as a potentially easier season in which to do so. We can all have our opinions on how well that is going so far and how wise a strategy that is.
the ‘speculate to accumulate ‘ strategy is a well worn one in football and it has on rare occasions worked but mostly it doesn’t.
it would have been appropriate for this to have been stated and acknowledged publicly earlier rather than emerged the way it has. One could argue it should have been voted on by the trusts members as it is a strategy that by definition carries significant risk.
so if we don’t win promotion this season then in entering season 26-27 we will need to have balanced the books without any external financial cash injections and the club finances will need to be on a sustainable basis. ( whatever that means ).
And although there is no room to cut costs today ( as stated at the meeting by an accountant ) there will be then……which is frankly ludicrous.
Let’s hope the revenue generating ideas work….
