  1. Free the Bishopbriggs One! (And then tell me what happened!)
  2. Went to the doc recently about a sore shoulder, got asked a lot of questions because I'm nearing fifty. Bunch of tests, cholestrol a bit high, but liver function ok! A miracle! Thistledome, I'm sure you will recover soon. And lads, give yourself a right good feel on a regular basis! Any excuse!
  3. Since the moderators have been taking a bit of flak recently, may I redress the balance and thank all responsible for this forum? I don't post much, but the forum remains my one true conduit to Partick Thistle, and I would be bereft were it to disappear. All in all, I think a splendid job is done, and it shouldn't be forgotten that for the moderators and operators it is a labour of love. Thanks guys.
  4. It's the way you tell 'em...............
  5. I've just seen that now. You make a "joke" about Madeline McCann and then red card that? You are, amongst many things, a hypocrite and a waste of an education.
  6. That's what I said. An animal can't consent. I am suggesting that your definition of consent is problematic given the emotional dynamic in some families. Possibly, I chose the wrong words when addressing you. Substitute "demands" for "requests" or even "overtures". There is a real risk of an abuse of power. It is, after all, how so much child abuse goes on undetected. And there is plenty of literature out there to support that point of view, and as a computer literate under-graduate you will know that. I reiterate, and note that you didn't address it, that sometimes we have to legislate to protect the vulnerable. Also, I might have a bit more time for your so-called libertarian points of view if you didn't make cheap jokes about small children who have gone missing.
  7. This is where I think your argument collapses. Clearly an animal cannot consent, so ethically have to protect the animal, hence the illegality of bestiality. With incest, however, I think we have legislated to protect the vulnerable. The age of consent is 16. I wonder how the situation plays out, say, with a potentially abusive father and a 16 year old daughter. She clearly loves her father, and he makes demands that she "consents" to. Is she consenting for the right reasons? Will she be comfortable with that "consent" when she is older? Sometimes you have to make judgments in the ethical and moral minefield. Would you, WJ, be happy to say that, since the girl "consented", that that act, that abuse of power, was not morally reprehensible? And now I feel a bit sick.
  8. Well out of order. Are you Sigesige?
  9. Are you Sigesige in disguise?

    Bus Fares

Twinny, these stops have been there for at least forty years. I lived in Highburgh Road for ages. I've often wondered why there were so many though.

    Song Titles

Crime Scene No 1 - The Afghan Whigs Amor Veneris - Arab Strap (and that's just one of many) There's No Such Thing As a Jaggy Snake - Biffy Clyro (and that just one of..........) A Day in the Life - the Beatles Perhaps some parameters are required here. Chart hits only? Space Oddity - David Bowie
  12. Without any prejudice, I'm keen to know why you are so diametrically opposed to the idea. On the face of it, if we can train there, and play there, and the rugby types can too, and it can be used by amateurs as well, then everyone is happy, and Firhill is being used profitably every day. All good. I have never witnessed professional football being played on such a surface, however, and wonder if that is why you think it is a bad idea? (On another matter entirely, and I've always wanted to ask, but when I were a lad in the early 80's there was a band kicking about the West End called Lady Isobel Barnett and the Live Wires. I obviously have no clue to your age, but I don't recall any mention in the media of the tragic peer between then and your arrival on the forum. Any connection?)
  13. Not the point I was trying (and clearly failing) to make, but since you raise it, is an offensive statement less offensive the fewer people that hear it? Somebody told me a racist joke the other day. Should I only be marginally disgusted because I was the only one heard that heard it? And out of curiosity, where exactly did you "check"? That would be a handy thing to know.
  14. Seen the jokes thread on the other forum recently?
  15. Nightmoves was a cracking venue. Saw REM play there, and the Eurythmics on the very week that "Sweet Dreams" kick-started their rise to stardom. As to the dancing above the Apollo and the Edinburgh Playhouse, they did exist (saw the Au Pairs in Edinburgh after Siouxsie and the Banshees played downstairs!) and they had the same name, but as usual I can't remember what it was.
  16. Just realised that the lead singer of Aussie garageband enthusiasts from some time ago Radio Birdman lives locally. Anyone remember them? Did they ever play in Glasgow? I have a suspicion that I saw them but my memory is honking.
  17. Spot on! It was known as both simultaneously for a while. Thanks for that. Why it was called the Kebab is another mystery. Don't think you could even get a pie there. The Rubyiat was a few doors down, on the corner.
  18. Good thread! Stirred a few memories. My underage drinking was done in Byres Road, in one of two pubs. One was the Aragon, and the other was across the road, but for the life of me I can't remember the name of it. All I can remember was that the decor, for want of a better expression, was predominantly red. Anyone help my ailing memory? I'm talking late 70's here.
  19. Does one need to pay for the extended highlights? How extended are they?
  20. Can I buy this and save it so I can watch it later?
  21. Blind since childhood, Arthel "Doc" Watson, who hails from nearby Deep Gap, North Carolina, all but singlehandedly made the guitar a lead instrument in bluegrass and old-time music.
  22. Excellent! Thanks. I knew the Forum wouldn't let me down!
  23. I went to that game at Hampden when I was a wee boy. I don't recall much about it, other than it was a Scotland team against a Rangers/Celtic select, which included at least a number of non-OF players: I am sure that George Best and Bobby Charlton played, at least. Anyone got any details? Any Thistle players involved? I looked on Google but quickly found myself wading through pages of OF bile and hatred, and was losing the will to live, frankly. My curiosity about this stems from a conversation I was having with my 12 year old about why people sit at football matches, and he is interested in the the details of that match, including what the teams wore. I think the select played in all white.
  24. I'm as curious as Adam Spark and Crazy Davie on this one. Why is this bloke being lionised? Why are Bermondsey Boy and Tom Stronach so keen on him? I've read about him and there doesn't seem much to commend. I understand his upbringing was difficult, but that is true for many people. I have no agenda on this, and have no desire to be critical or enter into an argument: I just wonder why people are keen to align themselves with him.
  25. ........commits GBH. Second sending off in as many games. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwHzCtRa2SE
