  1. I would argue that this one at Hibs is still well down the list of shame from Assistants. One in the sixties by a Russian springs to mind. Also, while Mottram is rightly synonymous with the incident at Firhill, I believe the assistant ref (linesman as they were styled back then) was equally at fault. Watching the footage ( ) it seems in part to be a serious miscommunication between them both. Now my memory may be fading, but I thought the linesman that day was a certain Jim McGilvery. While Mottram's reward was a slot at the World Cup finals, McGilvery was promoted to an SPL referee. McGilvery's career was cut short when I am sure we will recall with pride that he took a brave stand against the immoral injustices of the SFA against R*ng*rs (http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/scots-deny-crisis-talk-as-referee-quits-1320030.html ). That time he was compelled to book one of their players who choose to ignore a well-publicised directive and ran 25 yards, lept an advertising hoarding and celebrated by leaning into the ground. So shocked by the revelation of having to enforce the rules, he felt compelled to send off two Thistle players: Rod McDonald in part for blessing himself as he had always done; and Billy McDonald for reacting to an elbow in the face by kicking out (worthy of a red card, but the early elbowing went unpunished).
  2. Garry Gow syndrome!! Just what exactly is wrong with a Gow syndrome? ;-) Back on topic: if true, I find it reassuring that we appear to be John Baird's third back-up option. Do we move up to second or down to fourth if R*ng*rs go bust?
  3. Now that I think about it, there is at least one other former Thistle keeper in the coaching business (well according to some notices around a few local shops here anyway). A certain Bryn Halliwell is offering coaching to kids in the BB hall in Chryston on Sunday mornings. While his time with us was somewhat unspectacular, he holds quasi-legendary status in our house as the only "real life plays on the pitch" footballer who our two have spoken too. We bumped into him shopping in Asda less than an hour after he had played in an 0-2 home defeat against Dunfermline a couple of years ago. I was extremely impressed that our two recognised him (I didn't and they were both under 5 at the time). They still had scarves on and he took the time out to speak to them. His disappointment in the result seemed heart-felt and out two were star-struck.
  4. I understand that the Club are planning to contact people on Monday. Fingers crossed.
  5. Not sure if I made this up, but read in The S*n yesterday that Kenny Arthur is going into business with someone called Andrew Goram (apparently he played for Hibs a few years back). Venture called "The Goalie" or something like that and will provide specialist goalkeeping coaching for hire so to speak.
  6. He will get in ok as I have managed it a couple of times with my kids. If no one is in the Portacabin, simply bang loudly on red doors near the main entrance to JH. A steward will get him there!
  7. This article mentions the sub-board. http://sport.stv.tv/football/scottish-first/partick-thistle/295233-partick-thistle-chairman-says-dealing-with-clubs-financial-issues-will-be-very-challenging/
  8. We went to the Carnival at the SECC today. One of the stalls had a football theme. You had to pick 3 sealed tickets and then declare which one of 24 listed teams you thought you would have on one of your tickets. Our eldest (a vetran of 6 seasons at 7 years old) plumped for "Partick Thistle" and on this rare occasion we were actualy on the list. Low and behold, the final ticket came up Thistle and he was a winner. The woman running the stall then said to him "which team do you support: r*ng*rs or c*lt*c?". Before I could even tut loudly, the boy responded with "NOOO! I support Partick Thistle!". I was so proud. They did actualy have some Thistle gear too.
  9. I may be wrong, but according to the squad lists, we have 5 former Jags appearing in this tournament for other teams - are we sneaking in some practise in case we are ever asked in the future? That could be a good plan! I remember the shambles of our first ever excursion to the Tennents' Sixes, including Jim Duffy stepping up to claim offside. By our last appearance at the Tennents' Sixes, we had got so good that no one wanted to play us ever again. Edited to correct: Actually, I think there are at least 9, amd may be 10 if we are allowed to count Steve Kirk.
  10. Tommy Gibb did in fact come on as a sub for Newcastle in the 1974 FA Cup Final - 1974 FA Cup Final
  11. While watching the game via text updates on the intermittent OS, River City is on the telly. About 41 minutes in, one of the characters is reading the back page of a newspaper with the headline "Rampant Jags win again" or such like, plus a picture of a player in RnY hoops. Shieldinch might be a nice place to live after all if we keep winning; wonder where we are in the league there.
