  1. I don't recollect Harry being on the NW Bus before the nineties (the century's, not his!) I joined the NW in 1967 but really don't think he was around then.
  2. We had the pleasure of Harry’s company on the North-West bus for many years and, as Joe wrote, were charged with ensuring he could get off at Tesco’s on Maryhill Road to cross over in time for his beloved Bingo! The Grand Old Man of Firhill may have gone, but he will not be forgotten! Condolences to the family from all at the NW Branch, but think of the wealth of memories he’s left you!

  4. Firstly, Maggie and Fiona have asked me to thank everyone for their kind comments expressed here and through other communication channels. They will both be back in their places in the JH stand on Saturday, though very conscious of the empty seat beside them For that reason, and while extremely grateful for the suggestion and the thought behind it, coping with a minute’s applause would be very difficult and their preference would be that this kind gesture did not take place. Thanks, CCJag
  5. Born in Haddington to a family of Hearts supporters, Derek showed the perversity that would almost inevitably lead him to Firhill by initially supporting Hibs! He was first introduced to the mysteries of Maryhill's Finest when studying at Glasgow University, but it was his meeting with, and marriage to, Maggie Forsyth that committed him to Partick Thistle. Joined by their daughter Fiona, the trio were a fixture at Firhill and at away matches until the end of last season when the long-term effects of his illness curtailed his movements. Derek was perhaps the least voluble, but a no less valued, member of what was once referred to as the North-West Politburo! He was taken far too soon and our thoughts go to Maggie and Fiona who, amongst the many other good memories they will have, can look back at Derek celebrating Jags victories - and then having an extra grin/gin on hearing that the Jambos had lost!!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Derek passed away at the Hospice on Calton Place at 8:25 pm on Tuesday 22 August.

  7. Matches away to the Gruesome Twosome bracketing a game at Tynecastle! Not sure I'd have agreed to that, but no doubt some pressure was brought to bear on The Jags to agree to switching our 23/9 and 18/11 fixtures! Challenging or what?

  12. So last year it was Dingwall for an evening kick-off on 29/12 and this year it's Pittodrie on 27 December at 7:45............and Dingwall in midweek in February! Oh Well! it's only Thistle so it doesn't really matter does it?
  13. Indeed, but would it have seen the light of day were it not for 290 minutes in light blue?
  14. After all these years (far too many) why does the depth of the media's Old Firm (that’s the duo comprising the second oldest professional team in Glasgow & Sevco) obsession still surprise me? Actually, “surprise” is the wrong word since there is no surprise, just irritation. I’ve just read in today’s Herald, an 800-word obituary on that Ibrox legend – Albert Franks. http://www.heraldsco..._and_policeman/ No, I’ve never heard of him either and nor, I suspect, will many of those who follow the youngest professional football team in our city. While I do subscribe to the view that any man’s death diminishes me, and I sympathise with the Franks’ family at their loss, just how stellar was this man’s career in Govan to merit such recognition? Signed in March 1960, he made just three - not three hundred, nor even thirty – but three appearances for the club. Two defeats at home to Motherwell and the late lamented Third Lanark, and an away defeat at Shawfield. Hardly a Hall of Fame candidate, though with a longevity which would have been envied by the late Daniel Prodan! Still, he signed for one of the Gruesome Twosome, so obviously well worthy of such recognition!
  15. I like it. Looks systematically random - very Thistle! The only change I would have argued for would be to move the sponsor's logo down a little to accommodate a bigger Thistle badge.
  16. Yes, but only after "Great Birnam Wood to high Dunsinane Hill" came!
  17. Who knows? Logic would suggest the next League game - but when has logic ever had anything to do with the way Scottish Football is regulated? The key point is that, in this far from unlikely scenario, Dundee Utd would have committed the crime and Hamilton taken the punishment!
  18. I believe that the "Easy-Move Goal Trolley" comes free with every SFA Blazer!
  19. Hampden regularly provides a health and safety risk for those passing as rule books are hurled out of the windows on a regular basis for the general convenience of those and such as those. Someone could, however, usefully address the potentially ludicrous situation which arose following DownDee United’s Murray’s dismissal in the first leg of the Play-Off Final. Taking away the immensely enjoyable injustice of the decision, let’s concentrate on this potential scenario. A player widely regarded as United’s main goal threat is dismissed in the first game. He appeals the second booking and is granted a stay of the suspension pending a hearing which is scheduled for four days after the second leg. In the second leg, he scores the goal that secures a win for his side and condemns Hamilton to the Championship. The following Thursday, the Disciplinary Appeal hearing dismisses his claim and upholds the suspension! The Play-Off has, therefore, been decided by a player who should not have been eligible to appear. A “see you in court" scenario??” The only parallel I can think of, and an infinitely more serious one, was the UK parliament’s decision in 1953 that it could not debate whether or not the imposition of the death sentence on Derek Bentley was correct until after it had been carried out! Blind Justice indeed!
  20. Do you take Karma with your peh United?
  21. I, and I expect most of those who were at Tannadice that evening in 1996, will have enjoyed watching Downdee Utd have their very own “Les Mottram Moment” tonight. While the tie is not yet settled, and I have no love for The Accies, I hope they finish the job on Sunday and that United feel the injustice we did twenty-one years ago. Still bitter? You bet I am!
  22. Supporters Branches and The Jags Trust will present their awards to players on the pitch, prior to the kick-off against Aberdeen. The City Centre Branch The Cumbernauld Branch The Jags Disabled Supporters Group The Jags Trust The Jordanhill Branch & The North-West Branch will make their awards to some of the players who have made this such a great season for Jags Fans. The presentations will get underway at 11:45.

  24. Far too young and far too soon! The third untimely death linking Motherwell and The Jags in recent years, following Paul McGrillen and Jamie Dolan.
  25. 1972 Pre-Season v Portsmouth 0-0 Not particularly memorable, but details here on the excellent History Site http://partickthistl...+Portsmouth+0-0
