  1. The sad truth however is that England will qualify for the second stage, in second place they will meet the winners of Germany's group which could be Slovakia, with the luck these guys get at the World Cup they will win tht and hey presto its quarter finals. No team has really impressed so far, with the possible exception of Argentina, mind you on performances only New Zeland have been worse!
  2. The goalie is 28, hardly a child!
  3. I thought that the refs had been doing OK until this bloke today. He made life very difficult for himself by issuing so many cards early on, if he had been in any way consistent there would have been nobody left on the pitch by the end - well no Germans anyway! It has in my opinion got to the stage where we can't have common sense, everybody knows what Mr Ferguson thinks if every foul isn't acted upon (at least if its against Man Utd) and from Neil Lennons comments I will be expecting the same from Celtic. Managers demand every action has an effect but only if in their favour, they want all free kicks, off-sides, corners, throw ins and if the ref doesn't give the decision they want then its inconsistent, we want common sense etc. Well you can't have the level of consistency applying all the rules as if they are black and white (they're not) and still have common sense! We now get referees applying the standards of Messers Ferguson, Wenger and when it doesn't suit then they cry foul. Football was always supposed to be a human game, errors get made, least of all by refs but the constant whinning about referee errors costing money results in the type of officiating we are getting now! Rant over! PS Thought the Argentina vs Korea match was the first decent game of the tournament!
  4. It is good news, so we are going to be playing with a keeper afterall!
  5. Having lived on one island and now living on another, its no different, I still hope England lose in the quarter finals. Whatever island Mr Gibson inhabits, with that attitude he may be waiting for some time for his friends to come!
  6. Oh dear my adopted nation got well and truly gubbed! The Germans were by far the better side but I thought Cahills red card had a huge effect and it was very harsh. Here in Australia before the WC began most folk thought this side were a poor imitation of the group that performed so well 4 years ago. You can't replace the likes of Viduka with A Leahue players as the standard in the A league is poor. I think giving Craig Moore a game says it all, he doesn't even have a club now, keeps causing trouble and being moved on! I felt very sorry for Australia but they didn't deserve anything from the match. I enjoyed watching Argentina and I ejoyed the opening game, the rest have been average!
  7. Fair doos, as I said beauty is in the eye of the beholder but surely there is a hidden message mentioning Mr Hansen in the same sentence as Dave McPhearson?
  8. I suppose beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I always left Firhill after watching Mr Hansen with an air of frustration, one shared with Bertie Auld, who regularly described him as lazy and made him do extra training. Of course he turned out a good player at Liverpool and their scouts obviously saw something (and know considerably more about football than I do). I agree Mr Miller was equally to blame for the Russian fiasco, the difference however, was that generally you could watch Miller and be pretty sure there was maximum effort being applied, the same could not be said for Mr Hansen, in my opinion! It doesn't mean its right its just my opinion!
  9. Amusing as it undoubtedly was, I feel sorry for Robert Greene, he is a pretty decent keeper generally. It does bring a smile however, when I think of the abuse Scottish goalies used to get from south of the border to see England reduced to a low in confidence Greene or Calamity James!
  10. Charnley to take the kids - where to? the pub! Chico was a true legend as a player but if he has not done the appropriate coaching courses or gained experience then its a poor decision.
  11. There is a fair degree of inverted snobbery going on here! Thistle need all the fans they can get, the buses from the areas that have stopped are not the clubs doing, these things are organised by the supporters themselves. Anyway, I thought since Labour changed the entrance to Universities to allow access for more iys not just middle classes who attend Universities. Who has ever heard of students objecting to swearing?! While I agree with much of the sentiment of the initial post, some of the ravings of the others leave a bit to be desired - Firhill dhould be open to all!
  12. OK Admin has apologised, move on ! Chris Innes and Jack Ross released by St Midden this week according to BBC web site. I'd take them both!
  13. "If wishes were fishes we would all cast nets in the sea" as a famous Scots songwriter once wrote.... I would go gor Paulo Wanchop and Roger Miller !
  14. Maybe folk don't like Mr Hansen because for all he was a great player at Liverpool he was crap for both Thistle and Scotland! Never forgiven him for the mix up with Willie Miller that let Russia knock us out of the WC in 82?
  15. Took my daughters to that Dunfermline match, as they said about his performance OMG! I think that sums up my sentiments still.
  16. Only certainty is Dingwall on Boxing Day!
  17. OK I so what about best players (in recent memory)? I'll start..... Chic Charnley several times Graham Dorrans wee guy Brady ex-Morton boss Patterson - when not injured Lindududu Quentin Jacobs Colin McAdam perhaps Gerry Britton then its all the way back to Super Mo, Jim Melrose, Alex O'Hara, Kenny Watson?! Doug Somner, Bobby Houston, Alan Rough, Jackie Campbell, Andy Anderson and Brian Whittaker. I have to admit it looks like I am lookinf at the past with rose tinted specs!
  18. There are heaps of Jags fans (spot the local lingo) in Oz, must be worth a Jags convention, somewhere convenient like Hobart! We could all stand in the rain and reminice!
  19. Quentin Jacobs a dud???!!! He was one of the cleverest players ever to wear a Jags shirt, it was just nobody else in the team was good enough to capaialise on his skill! Now I agree Kenny Brannigan was probably the worst player ever but does anybody recall Fraser Wishart, I seem to remember thinking when we signed him it was pretty good but I saw him at a match vs Stenhousmuir (we lost 4-1) and he was truly awful, looked like he had never played the game. Then there was Dougie McNab in goals, how much time do you have?
  20. IMO I think Willie McStay would be a top choice! But interesting the names mentioned were not the usual tired names. I wouldn't mind any of those mentioned in charge at the Theatre of Dreams.
  21. Is that supposed to be an omen, our CE Third Lanark?
  22. Couldn't agree more with all of the above. The OF have always ripped of other teams in Scotland, with Rangers being I think the worst offenders! Remember Colin McAdam? I thing we got paid a couple of buts of chewing gum, a Panini sticker of Davie Dodds and two empty bottles of ginger! and he was worth millions!!!
  23. And England is a sovereign state? Are the sovereigns not British? (OK so we all know they are Germans). I can think of no particular reason why I should support England, apart from the fact I live there for more than 20 years, I hope they do OK but not too well! I don't owe any sense of loyalty, clearly there is not great love lost for Scots in England, thats one of the main reasons behind the press campaign to get rid of Brown, didn't want a Scot running what is regarded as the English Parliament, especially when his seat is in Scotland with its own devolved Parliament! So why should I care about England? Clearly this time round I am supporting Australia!
  24. I have absolutely no idea what if any money the Board have contributed, I would imagine there is some sort of pre-requisite to becoming a director. However, we have seen for months now fans saying they are not prepared to pay £16 entry, isn't it odd that we still expect the directors to shell out when we aren't ?
