  1. How old are the guts on this Forum? All the talk of Ferranti Thistle and Alan Kellachan makes it sound as if all the contributors are experienced fans. I remember being at the Ferranti game with my Dad (I was 9 years old) and I remember it was a Sunday as my Mum wouldn't talk to us for days for going to a match on a Sunday. I didn't recall how many goals we scored but I do remember the reaction of the Ferranti players when they scored near the end, you would have thought they had won the World Cup!
  2. and bags I go Stewart Kennedy, oh! wait a minute.......
  3. I wonder if Craig "no strikers2 Levein watched the U-21s play? 2 wingers on our team (at the same time) and what an entertaining match it was.
  4. Quentin Jacobs and Maradonna (or maybe Brian Laudrop)
  5. I hope everybody at the What a Sensation night had a brilliant time. Too far away to be there but I enjoyed reliving the moment, the neighbours were wondering why I had red, yellow and black balloons all over the place as nobody in AFL plays in these colours, well they know now! Congratulations and happy anniversary to all Thistle fans everywhere!
  6. Should run out to the old "Its A Knockout" theme tune and probably have Stuart Hall do the match commentary also. Now that would bring the crowds back!!
  7. There is nobody in the Hall of Fame that I would argue about and yes I am sure there will be room for my favourites; Alan Rough Jackie Campbell Andy Anderson Jim Melrose Bobby Houston plus all the 71 team Plenty of time for the heroes of yesteryear
  8. I agree with the comments above. Levein is fortunate to have a few more decent players to choose from than other recent managers, well reasonably good midfielders at any rate. I think we failed to qualify as Levein was too scared, imagine anybody else in the world, anywhere, ever, going to play a game with no strikers, that is criminal and he should have been booted immediately for that. However, he wasn't and we will have to live with it for longer. I don't see Craig Brown's optimism for the next World Cup qualifiers, I think all the teams including Wales could beat us. Oh! well! Roll on 2018 in Quatar!
  9. First match was 0-0 vs Dundee in 1971, shortly after Cup Final. Game was on Sportscene that night, as were all Scottish First Division games. I think my first away match was vs Dumbarton in the same season, and first European game was vs Honved! Those were the days my friends I thought they'd never end (that could be a song!!) but they did, and shortly afterwards!
  10. Barbie at the Bing is a great idea. There is no Health and Safety legislation that says this can't happen, it just needs to be planned. Events such as this are stopped because folk are scared somebody gets injured ans sues, its all about covering backsides and has nothing to do with health and safety! It would be a great event!
  11. I agree, Iwulemo's attempt takes some beating but close contenders include Roy Aitken (Scotland vs Uraguay, can't remember which World Cup) or Billy Bremner (Scotland vs Brazil, 1974 World Cup).
  12. John Arrol, seem to remember him getting injured vs Motherwell but was a great goalie! Jackie Campbell really should have played for Scotland, more recently, certainly Quinten Jacobs and Peter Lindu. The bold Chic as mentioned earlier, should have done much better but we haven't really had anybody of any class for a while!
  13. Very sad to hear of his death! He was in my opinion the best commentator on radio. His crescendo of excitement as the ball reached the half way line would suddenly burst with a " deary, deary me...disaster for Scotland" What a legend!
  14. I will readily admit to being middle aged and not I think I must be more than a bit thick, I didn't understand any of the above!
  15. Interesting debate going on here! Despite having said Fletcher should be a shoe in, I perhaps I am being a bit hypocritical there, I really never wanted to see Kris Boyd back in the team and I didn't want Barry Ferguson back either, its not all ant-Rangers though as I wasn't too impresses when MoJo did much the same and I would have told him to sling his hook. However, I don't really know the details of the Fletcher vs Levein thing. As far as the team getting better, I'm not so sure the team that played the Czechs was any better than the team that lost to Italy at Hampden. I do think we have a decent goalie, I quite like both Hutton and Berra and agree that Caldwell is not the best, I think the fact Davie Weir still gets a game says it all, he was never International class in his prime so how can he be now he's in his 80's? I like our midfield, Adams, Robson, Fletcher, Brown, Morrison, Dorrans all good players but up front virtually nothing. Kenny Miller I like but even he doesn't strike fear into any opponent. Stephen Fletcher would improve that but possibly not by much, hopefully Goodwillie will come good (providing he stays out of jail) and there is not a great deal on the horizon in terms of forward but you never know, the next Je Jordan may be out there somewhere! And after all that is said and done I still think Craig Levein is a diddy, Peter Houston is a diddy and did anybody ever think Kenny Black would ever get anywhere near the national squad?? But they should be given time, at the most till we attempt to qualify for Brazil, but if there is any repeat of this no strikers malarky then all of the management team need to go! Infact if we continue to play 1 striker at home in important must win games they should go then also!
  16. For what its worth I think Scotland are not too far off having a reasonable team, with more of our young players heading to the English Premier it looking pretty good. Its too bad then we have an eejit like Levein in charge! This bloke should have been sacked for playing with no forwards in Prague, that one game says it all, he's not good enough! Then he gets a game against Brazil, we are predictably humped, we drop in rankings and enter the World Cup Qualifiers in Pot 4 rather than Pot 3 and he says the drubbing was a worthwhile exercise!!! I agree that Stephen Fletcher should be a shoe in, I wonder also why Barry Robson didn't get a game, he has been outstanding for Middlesbrough and has genuine flair. Time to ship out Levein and with this bunch of players a decent manager might achieve something - not could we not get Craig Brown back? is Tommy Docherty still alive? George Graham isn't doing too much these days? or th special one, John Lambie!!
  17. Definately Kaiser Bill for me, so many good memories or at least so many rose tinted memories....

  19. While I agree that it is amusing to watch our "elite" struggle to beat the diddy teams of Europe, my overwhelming sense is one of shame and embarrasment!
  20. Billy Thompson, Bobby Houston, Quentin Jacobs, Tony Higgins, Donald Park, David Irons, Iain Jardine, Alex O'Hara, Peter Lindu, Robert Fleck (only played a few games I know), John Hansen, John Arrol and everybody else that everybody else has mentioned! Apart from Colin Bomber Jackson, next thing you know someone will mention Derek Johnson!
  21. My feelings about ATMs are mixed! If you use your own banks machine then they are OK, but if you use a different one you get charged $2. Not happy about that!
  22. John Marr, Andy Anderson, Colin McAdam, John Craig, Greg Shaw, Brian Whittaker..............
  23. Well I've been a Jags fan for over 40 years and it all been brilliant! The League Cup win in 71 was brilliant. The Glasgoe Cup win in 1980(1?) was brilliant. Beating Rangers 2-0 at Ibrox on 31st October 1981 was brilliant Beating anybody is brilliant. All the strips the team have ever had have been brilliant. John Lambie was brilliant. Jackie Campbell, Jim Melrose, Maurice Johnston and Colin McAdam were brilliant. Winning two consecutive promotions was brilliant. The emergence of young players is brilliant. Being 12,000 miles away is crap! In summary though it looks like the good times outweigh the bad!
  24. Best kit in a long time! Pure dead brilliant so it is! I see a few making there way across the world very soon!
