  1. Daft as it may sound to a lot of folk but I think Willie Kinniburgh would make a good captain/leader. Obviously he has to ensure he's a first choice centreback beforehand but I reckon he's now got the necessary leadership qualities.
  2. I've had enough at Firhill as it is of people in glasshouses.......
  3. Just out of interest, PGS, why would you want to tie yourself as a neutral to the one club?
  4. To be fair I'm not sure I'd make the journey they must've to do every second week and I go to most away games. Then, because of our inane league system, they're expected to make the same nine journeys all over again. If come March they're still up challenging and don't turn up in decent numbers then that will be disappointing.
  5. Another reason I suppose why the singing section can't be moved to that end of the JH. I too am in general agreement with the OP tho' I know we're far from being alone re the soulless stuff. Nowadays the standard of play on the park and the result seems so all important. OK it always was important but in times gone by even in defeat you could often leave the ground semi glad you went along.
  6. Clueless could be wrong. He might just have been indifferent or totally disinterested, which more or less results in the same thing. Why I say that is that on numerous occasions he allowed free kicks and throw ins to be taken from anywhere but the correct spot. While I hate when refs are pernickety, that in itself can spoil a game, but there has to be a happy medium. Yesterday we took one free kick at least twenty five yards from the foul and both teams got away with something similar if not quite so extreme throughout the match. On one occasion I even found it amusing. County were lining up their wall about eight paces from where the free kick was to be taken from. When the ref had failed in a half hearted attempt to move them back we simply moved the free kick back a yard or so. If the referee shows little interest to where deadballs and throw ins are taken it stands to reason he'll be indifferent to time wasting and all sorts of gamesmanship. Then of course perhaps he was trying his best and was just a completely clueless
  7. That's a real shocker, an Airdrie fan who knows his Dad.
  8. Agree entirely. Much too easy to defend. Really need somebody to whip them in from the left. Maybe Paton or O'Donnell could do better?
  9. I think only the Shankly/Paisley era at Liverpool (roughly 25 years as well) can compare to Ferguson's spell at Man Utd. The fact United did what they did with just one manager speaks volumes for Ferguson. Shankly & Ferguson reshaped their respective clubs, which were both way underperforming, installing a real winning mentality. Managers of other clubs have done likewise but none for anything remotely like as long.
  10. I know what you mean but I don't think he's the type of player that's ever going to take a lot of knocks. Put another way I don't believe the lad is holding back and would probably play much the same way for his club.
  11. I think the sponsors giving Scully MotM was probably more a process of elimination than a truly deserved accolade. The lad did fine all the same. Balatoni may have been suspect leading up to their goal but, tho' no great honour given the competition, I thought he was our best player by a distance.
  12. I suppose they would say that Douglas was innocent. Certainly the SFA & Chris Erskine don't disagree with them. Lockwood's obviously at fault otherwise I can't see how their manager would be praising Erskine's honesty if he thought he dived. Mind you this is Dundee FC we're talking about so everything always has its complications.
  13. I thought that's how how Alan Hansen got started at Morrisons.
  14. Well the new fast track SFA panel obviously think otherwise. It would be extremely amusing if Douglas has an absolute howler tomorrow.
  15. Wouldn't be surprised if that's the starting eleven and bench. Only thing is I'm nearly always one player out. Erskine an early sub for either Doolan or Elliot depending who tires earliest (more likely Doolan given the nature of his game). Fox I think will be preferred to Kid Gloves, the fresh-faced shotstopper* tho' I'm not as certain as Alan M. *Courtesy of today's Glaswegian
  16. Baxter had an excellent game. Thanks to Bremner "eliminating" Pele most agree Baxter was the best player on the night. Was quite amusing to hear Wee Billy getting booed for his spoiling antics. Think by the time Chalmers arrived at Firhill he was far more interested in getting his golf handicap down to scratch than playing football. Certainly spent more time at Cawder GC than he ever did on the training pitch. As Winter of '63 says would make a cracking quiz question. An ex Jags player who scored against Brazil (and also scored the winning goal in a European final).
  17. Likewise but I doubt if anyone played above average in those three games.
  18. I think that's a bit unfair. Did Celtic, Dunfermline. St Mirren etc donate to Capital FM cancer appeal or help sell the Peel to Save booklets? There's been other charitable appeals etc the Club have got involved with as well. I've no idea whether we give more or give less to charitable causes pro rata to the size of our Club. That's something nobody knows but I'm willing to bet every club has to refuse worthwhile causes on a very regular basis.
  19. There's also the possibility that Fox hasn't fully recovered from his illness. Perhaps he hasn't put in a full week's training . If Fox was an outfield player he would probably start on the bench in any case. So if Scully does start I wouldn't read that much into it. I doubt very much tho' that Fox providing he is fully fit will be dropped. I do tho' think that if he continues making too frequent errors or looks too shaky then Jackie/Hinchy will have no second thoughts replacing him with Scully. Guessing that prior to Scully getting chucked in the deep end and proving himself more than capable there would be greater reservation about dropping Fox. Anyway I never knew so many Jags fans were that expert on Fox droppings.
  20. ditto tho' Bremner kicked Pele off the park that night. Maradona was exceptional at Hampden '79. Roughie undoubtedly the best Jags player I've seen.
  21. Been staying out of all this but I got a couple of points. Firstly the Club needn't be doing this. It should be the very sort of caper that a supporters association (Jags Trust or whoever) should be organising and getting involved in. and secondly some things said in jest and all that. A year or so ago the Club stopped providing lunches for the players. Prior to that they were fed in the Aitken Suite on training days. Nowadays the players have to provide for themselves. Just my opinion but, especially when you take into account our Chairman's profession, that's a far more embarrassing situation than this rag collecting. Yet the no lunches thingy went more or less without remark.
  22. Ah but the SPL require 11 votes out of 12 (or I suppose it would be 10 out of 11 in this case) to do anything as drastic. I can't see them risking their precious TV deals. Coming to think of it they probably wouldn't deduct too many points either. What would be the point of the daft split if rangers ended up in the bottom half? I could envisage a reconstituted Rangers disUnited being "invited" into the SPL. For the greater good of Scottish football, you understand.
  23. Dundee are appealing the decision using video as evidence. Erskine has stated that it wasn't Douglas that tripped him.
  24. It's hard to believe that nearly forty years have passed since I was highly privileged to attend Billy Bremner's reading of Kierkegaard's Journals.
