  1. Why do you have to be so abusive?
  2. Exactly. Besides we've only got Doolan & Erskine from the juniors. This whole repetitive thread was started with a throw away line in the ET. There's another throw away line in tonight's edition that mentions that it seems certain that we're re-signing Donnelly. So we'll have Buchanan, Grehan, Doolan, Donnelly (maybe) & Burns as strikers. If we are indeed after a striker from the Juniors I'd suggest he'd be a one for the future type youngster who'd maybe go straight out on loan. It's not as if we've a striker in waiting at under 19 level. The lad Shaun Fraser has clear potential but is clearly nowhere near stepping up, and is I think only 17.
  3. Was funny a few years back when they were in administration and had shirt sponsors Intelligent Finance
  4. sorry if examples were wonky but no one can deny that we sourced plenty a young player from the junior ranks who in turn went on to success at Firhill. I'm fairly certain that John Hansen played for Sauchie Juniors. Things are a bit cloudy there as Jimmy Millar was both a manager at Sauchie and scout for the Jags.
  5. We can do without the off the cuff remarks, lads.
  6. I don't see much wrong in sourcing a few Juniors providing the fellow doing the sourcing is up to scratch. After all that was at one time where many a Jags legend came directly from. The Hansens, Joe Craig countless others from around their era and more recently Dinnie & Archibald all came from there. I'd go further and say that signing younger players from the junior ranks should be common policy until we get a consistent throughput from our youth policy. I doubt it's escaped many on here but Falkirk have just sold Arfield for a lot of money and Hamilton are likely to cash in big style on McArthur. I'd rather see us mark time, even if some of our next signings tend towards mediocrity, till the youth throughput pays dividends. I'm with McCall in that I agree that the youngsters we've got at the moment should be introduced gradually and not just thrown in the deep end. The youth thing costs money and we're skint so I'm happy enough seeing us forage about in the Juniors meantime rather than cost cut the youth policy just so as we can compete for the signing of a John Baird or an Alex Keddie.
  7. I don't think we had a centenary match. Certainly can't remember one. Could be down to playing in the anglo-scottish cup and with the league cup still played in sections back then that we couldn't find the time
  8. That's all very well but answer the the age old question first. Who would we drop?
  9. If a man does not make new acquaintance as he advances through life, he will soon find himself left alone. A man, Sir, should keep his friendship in constant repair.
  10. Clyde are supposedly interested in Longworth.
  11. Coming to think of it at last meet the manager he kept going on about money being too tight.
  12. Do Real (soon to be Un-)Sporting de Gijón have any connection with fortified apple juice? Pity it would make a nice farewell occasion.
  13. That's what I thought as well. I'm sure he was a lot leaner his last season with us. Don't think he'd lost any body strength all the same. btw agree with Grant re not affording any passengers but I do feel Erskine, even if he's still got a lot to prove, is a wee bit above that. At the same time, if only to get bums on seats, I strongly believe that we have to afford at least one (and really should be more) guy with a bit of an entertaining flair.
  14. Old MacDonald had a farm, eee-yi-eee-yi-oh And on this farm he had a carefully deconstructed flatpack stand. With a beam beam here and a beam beam there Here a beam, there a beam, everywhere a beam beam Old MacDonald had a farm, eee-yi-eee-yi-oh
  15. Is your surname Rumsfeld, by any chance?
  16. When you see it like that there's really much of a likeness, not huge variation. Most glaring differential is between Falkirk and Dundee two similar stands & amenities yet one is 27% dearer. I'd imagine Pars, Queens & Binos will be somewhere in between above two. As already posted Morton are the worst rip off merchants for an away fan and Ross Co will no doubt be cheaper than others but they won't have the same overheads. Having been in Central Pk recently I imagine there'll be a few raised eyebrows about paying £15 but there's at least mitigating reasons given Cowden's dire circumstances.
  17. Doesn't look to me like Erskine has anything approaching 90 mins in him. Can start him if you like but, when you need to have a sub in place just for him, it's more than likely that Chris will find his way back onto the bench at kick off. Without Corcoran we definitely need, or at least could do with, more width in the team. Signing an attacking right sided midfielder would help and maybe then Erskine could hold a place down the left in a 4-4-2. Got a feeling tho' we'll be back to either a 3-5-2 with wingbacks or a narrow makeshift 4-4-2 with central midfielders (Cairney, Hodge, MacBeth) being pushed out a bit. Don't really see where Erskine would fit in other than as an impact player. Hope I'm wrong and he improves as he is indeed the type of player to excite the crowd.
  18. Hereford? Yeovil Town? Do Taunton have a team?
  19. McAllister strikes me as he could be a good player in a good team. When he's surrounded by more mediocre players he fails to shine. Not uncommon I suppose with wingers. Btw I see Dundee are after Gavin Skelton. Good grafter, probably the type of player they need.
  20. And for what? The SPL, which could expand to 16 teams. If that happened and four teams go up they'd look pretty stupid as they'd still be a virtual shoo in spending a quarter of that budget.
  21. What a strange venue . St Andrews will be heavin' with the Open starting a few days later. Wouldn't be surprised, having been there on many an occasion at & around Open time, if the parking restrictions etc are in operation. Don't anyone think of making a weekend of it, be nigh impossible.
  22. Not disagreeing but imo £15 for Cappielow (last season's price) and get treated like garbage is every bit as bad. Not aimed at any previous comments but I couldn't make a principled point about staying away from one and going to the other. For those who don't go to Morton, you're either in one of two places. Stuck away in a pokey wee stand with restricted vision and seating where Munchkins would complain about the legroom and that's devoid of both toilet and catering facilities or if lucky in the roofless bench seating, which of course is of great amusement to the home fans when, rain not exactly being a rarity in Greenock, it starts to pee down.
  23. As posted earlier I thought he has been placed on transfer list rather than being freed. Link
