  1. Jeez - been checking Twitter literally every 10 minutes for news of a signing, though seems to be more Twitter traffic than usual. Can't believe Archie would have been so definitive at the open event without good reason.....
  2. Was at Firill for the first time on Saturday for a we while. Usually a JH man, went to the North Stand on a whim. The "Archie Archie" chant was amazing, and reading how the connection with the Jags came about, the story is even more fantastic. Well done Jags!
  3. Agree with all above. Thought he was tremendous yesterday, and also against Ross County. The fact he doesn't get many MoM awards maybe suggests he is taken for granted (he was given highest rating in the report I read on yesterday's game). Can't see him staying, but in terms of Scottish teams, there are not many candidates - maybe Aberdeen. Would agree that move to good League 1 team or Championship team down South may be most likely. He also went to my primary school - albeit 20 years after me!
  4. Ok, so I live in Edinburgh and was at the Hearts away game early in the season with my Jambo neighbour and our daughters, this thread refers to. First thing is that the Thistle performance that day was honkin, and Hearts were flying. Stevo was subbed, and as he left, he waved to the three Hearts stands, and at best small gesture to the sizeable jags support. When I met up with my neighbour after the game. he commented on Stevo's actions right away, so it was obvious to him. He put it down to Stevo bottling it on the day, and wishing he was still at Hearts. When Hearts booted him after they were relegated, he looked gutted. When he signed for us I was delighted - skilful player, and led the young -15 points Hearts team really well. Thought he could make a real difference to us. If you remember, he was played up front alone for a number of games when he first joined. He wasn't suites for the role but he stuck at it. He got injured towards the end of last season, and to my mind he hasn't recovered. The fact that he couldn't be get in a team that wasn't creating much tells us he wasn't fit / playing well, or had fallen out with Archie. I suspect the former - no evidence for the latter. Others may have have a different insight So, disappointing it has not worked out - he could have been terrific for us. But I think he is a player on the wane unfortunately. On a cheerier note, well enjoying this run, and as a 43 year old, honestly believe the last three years have been the most consistently successful/enjoyable in my supporting lifetime.
  5. Was at the game yesterday with Jambo neighbour and our daughters. Neighbour was interested where Setvenson would be playing, and I assumed when I saw the teams that he would be left side. He reckoned that would be a good move, as their right back is hot-headed and would be a guaranteed booking with Stevo winding him up. Couldn't believe Amoo was on the left. He looked really lacking in confidence and only had one run and cut back in the first half. Gary Fraser looked lost and was always coming inside to the CM role. So basically, our full-backs had no out ball with Fraser and Amoo not really being available. The other disappointment was that I thought our centre three would be to good for hearts as I reckon Welsh, Banzo and Stevo all better than Bauben. But the game largely passed by these guys too. Stevo really misjudged the game and tried to be too palsy with the Hearts crowd. Clapping their fans and not ours when he was subbed was a real error of judgement which he's probably regretting. I think he can be a good player for us but he doesn't look fit. He's probably still recovering from his summer op. Bad day at the office unfortunately, but agree with other posts that on the whole we should be competitive this year.
  6. It struck me at the beginning of the summer that we'd struggle to improve the team with Scots who were (a) available, and ( realistically want to join? So we'd have to look South, and so it has proved. Take centre half (which I think was our priority position to improve) looking at our rivals in the bottom 6, who would we have chosen? So that takes you to top 6 - again, who would have fit the bill? 26-30, leader, hard, skilful, with a track record....sounds like everyone's dream centre half! I reckon this is an indication of the general decline in Scottish football over the lasts ten years or more. I think this is starting to turn the corner across the country, but will take a while. At Thistle, we still have a pretty young team, even with the new boys we have signed. We had our own mini golden generation that got us promoted, and currently a crop of home-grown youngsters on the bench who will play their part over the season. For the time being, a team of international superstars will have to do!
