  1. I'm happy with the win today - we weren't great obviously, but there is room for improvement once the team starts to gel/we get some players back from injury and suspension. I think the criticism of Bombscare Willie and Boyle is a bit harsh - I thought they both had decent games. It is obvious though how much we need Sid to have a good season, he is the only player we have who is capable of controlling the ball and making a pass - see the best move of the game, which unfortunately Boyle messed up in the second half.
  2. Ridiculous to judge anything based on a pre-season friendly, whether it is crowds or the performance of the team. I'm sure it's not far away from our previous crowds for such fixtures anyway.
  3. I know fans forums are an unreliable judge of opinion and not representative of the fanbase, but let's assume that the fans in general are as unhappy with the board's performance as you suggest. How long has this situation been going on? 5 years? Longer? And in this time, have any realistic alternatives emerged? As pointed out above, if there were groups of fans being rebuffed by Cowan and Co, why would they then keep quiet about this? I think it's time to accept that there are no alternative owners/boards out there, and we have to make the best of what we have. That may mean trying some BoD memebers in different positions, and I know you could say this is merely shuffling deckchairs on the Titanic, but I don't see what choice we have. I'm not applying this to you, but it seems to me that there are fans out there who actually enjoy bashing the board and take great pleasure in discovering potential, and indeed actual, screw-ups. This isn't healthy for anyone, we have enough problems as it is.
  4. This is not a realistic compasion. If you hired a builder to build you a house and it became clear he didn't know what he was doing, of course you would get rid of him and bring in someone else - choosing from the large number of builders out there who would be happy to step in. Our problem with the board is that there is nobody else out there ready to step in. In a situation like ours you have to consider the alternatives, and we (unlike someone building a house) don't have any.
  5. There's too many awful beers to list them all. The most obvious examples are Tennents, Carling, Fosters and Carlsberg, which sadly are everywhere and are all dire and undrinkable. Fosters is probably the worst of all. Budweiser, Miller, Becks, Amstel, Coors, Kronenbourg, San Miguel and Stella I would put in a second category - they are not nice beers, but just about drinkable in the absence of anything else and assuming they are cold.
  6. If Howard Webb gets the final we should all just forget about the game and let him lift the World Cup. The way Tyldesley was eulogising him I think he expects this to happen. Let's give Webb the Golden Boot and Player of the Tournament while we're at it.
  7. What a glorious opening day fixture - I can hardly contain my excitement. Kirkcaldy is a wonderful seaside resort, just perfect for an August day out, and perhaps our ex-PM will add a bit of glamour to the occasion. I'm already counting down the days.
  8. There's a difference between forming a coalition in council politics (something which happens regularly) and forming a coalition at Westminster though. How much of a factor is Europe in local government? It isn't, but it becomes a big issue when talking about Lib-Dem support for a Eurosceptic Cameron government, and I'm sure most Lib-Dems would be horrified at the allies any incoming Tory government have already made in Europe. Clegg himself and other Lib-Dems have been pretty vocal on this recently. It also just doesn't make sense. Does anyone not think that the Lib-Dems are closer to Labour on most of the important issues? A majority of voters will vote for either Labour or the Lib-Dems, which is a vote for safeguarding the recovery against ideological Conservative cuts, a vote for good relations with Europe as opposed to pointless fights with France and Germany, a vote for the possibility of electoral reform, and a vote against inheritance tax giveaways to only the ricest in society while emerging from a severe recession. For the Lib-Dems to deal with the Conservatives instead of Labour on the grounds that one aspect of the electoral system is unfair, when in fact the entire system is unfair, would impose a Conservative government that most people don't want.
  9. I'm voting in a Lib-Dem/Labour marginal, so as long it's a hung parliament and nothing happens that shouldn't happen (i.e Nick Clegg doing a deal with the Devil. I'm pretty sure he won't, as I imagine 95% of Lib-Dem members would want him set alight if he did) I'm not too bothered who wins my consituency. I love the irony of Dave's situation in a hung parliament if the Tories win the most seats. The only way for him to get into governement is to agree to a new voting system that would see them almost permanently excluded from government. That's revenge for Thatcher.
  10. Morton going down would be by far the funniest out of the three. I can't bring myself to hate Airdrie in the way I used to - apart from Lovering they don't have any players I dislike, and they don't have any fans any more. I like visiting Somerset, it's a throwback but in a good way, unlike Cappielow which is just a dump. Also Morton are more likely than the other two to sign some reasonable players and get a decent team, if they ever stop appointing duff managers. So, Morton to go straight down, and I would have no objection to Alloa or Cowden replacing Airdie. Central Park is one of the grounds I've never seen us at.
  11. The mighty Town are going up this year. Hopefully at the expense of Leeds in the play-offs.
