  1. A fine heavyweight, who could have been one of the world greats if he didn't cut so easily. A shame for him that Clay's cornermen managed to slit his glove and get extra recovery time just after Henry had almost sent him to orbit. Can't remember anybody ever saying a bad word about him. RIP
  2. It depends on what world authority you accept. It might be Madeleine according to the WAHS, but the IFHS still has Lord Lucan and Shergar in joint top position.
  3. A few of the items on the list of lots in an auction to raise funds for QoS raised a smile; try to guess which ones: 4MTSX4MTS MANCHESTER UNITED CARPET -COLINS CARPETS 10LTS MAGNOLIA MATT EMULSION- DULUX PAINT st marys ind est 2 LARGE BAGS DOG BISCUITS-JOHN FAIRGRIEVE PAUL MITCHELL SHAMPOO AND DAILY TREATMENT-AUDREYS HAIR DESIGN THOMAS TANK STATION WITH TRACK AND 2 ENGINES-PETER BEST ABERDEEN ANGUS BULLING HEIFER-ANDREW DUNCAN NEWLANDS ESTATE 1 YEAR OLD BLONDE BULLOCK-FIONA SMITH BRANDYBURN £50 FOOD HAMPER-BEN WEATHERALL LEATHER OFFICE CHAIR-DEREK CLARK MERLIN £15 VOUCHER-JRK CAMPBELL LAWNMOWER-LLOYDS TRACTORS 12FT FARM GATE-IAN ARCHIBALD IAN CROSBIE-DRIVING LESSON 4 BALL-DUMFRIES AND GALLOWAY GOLF CLUB 11 POCKET DOUBLE TOOL POUCH WITH GLOVES-HEATHHALLL GARDNE CENTRE 2 DAYS SALMON FISHING FOR 1 PERSON-BARJARG FISHING 5 LITRES FENCE PAINT-APEX 2 FOOTBALLS-MCDERMIDS 5 LITRES SCREENWASH-DA AUTOPARTS SIZE 9 MENS WELLIES-MATHERS LIMITED EDITION RABBIE BURNS WHISKEY-BILLY WRIGHT LIMITED EDITION 75TH ANNIVERSARY QOS WHISKEY-BILLY WRIGHT 14 ROUND BALES OF STRAW-STANLEY BOYD 2 BAGS OF GRASS SEED-STEWART BRYSON SOUTH WEST SEEDS 2 SETS OF 6 GLASSES,14CM STAINLESS STEEL MILK PAN,ROUND STAINLESS STEEL TRY WITH 5 ROUND TINES FOR SAUCES AND JAMES-28 DDYAS CUT AND BLOW DRY-MARGARETS HAIR DESIGN SMALL ASSORTED METAL BOX OF SCREWS-HOWDENS 15 DOZEN LARGE FREE RANGE EGGS-GLENKEN EGGS STAINLESS STEEL SPADE,STAINLESS STEEL HOE,2 BAGS OF COMPOST,FENCE PAINT,HOZELOCK SPRAYER,3 LITRE MEASURING JUG,24 HOUR TIMER-BURDENS A 3 course meal for two of a la carte menu plus a complimentary bottle of wine-donated by Pleuchies Howff Fishing for two for one year on Kinnel and Ae on a 1 mile stretch of water-Andrew Wilson Esbie Farm A Driving lesson-Nithcree Driving school. But it got me thinking: I'm sure that just about everybody has old junk antiques and collectibles that we'd be happy to donate to either a car boot/jumble sale or an auction with all proceeds going to the club. Once again, it's probably all down to somebody getting off their backside and organizing it, and I don't have either the time or energy. Edited to add: Maybe this should be moved to the fundraising ideas thread.
  4. Good to know that we can count on Sigesige to keep the forum lively over the summer when there's nae fitba'. The outraged will be able to express themselves safely.
  5. Why is it that leaders of some so-called Christian countries publicly rejoice in the killing of other humans, whereas they condemn other countries that kill murderers, and refuse the death penalty even for mass murderers in their own country? Cameron on tv this morning looked like a bad actor trying to convey a solemn attitude.
  6. As I saw their first two goals unfold I actually felt a bit worried about next season! Hope it was just down to an off-day.
  7. Don't forget that at the time of our demotion from the SPL Yorkston of Dunfermline was publicly announcing that the game NEEDS promotion and relegation. I fully expect Dunfermline's position now to become one of feeling that there should be an exclusive 10-team league, then of course when they get relegated again when their position will change to saying that we need a 16-team league, until they get promoted again.....ad nauseam. That's the mindset that is holding back real development.
  8. If ever there was a game in which you might suspect that a referee and "assistants" had an agenda even before kick-off, Saturday at Dens Park was that game.
  9. Great photies. And credit to the Dundee fans for applauding Grehan as he was stretchered off. That's all they get credit for, though.
  10. I have not the slightest affinity with "Britishness" in any of its guises, and actually detest so much of what Britain has done and continues to do, both in the world and in these islands. Whatever it legally takes to get rid of it and restore our own place as a nation in the world, not merely a region of another country. SNP
  11. Caught a wee bit of the service on the news last night. Anybody else notice the smirk/grin that briefly broke out on Kate's face when Willie said the "for richer or poorer" part?
  12. George Clooney, Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt...... I've heard it all. Sarcastic b*stards!
  13. Anybody would have thought that the BNP had made major breakthroughs all over Scotland today. I actually felt quite sick at the sight of those flags especially in places where they have no business being.
  14. Could be a good source, ...as long as somebody checks their Facebook pages first!
  15. Slight hijack here, but did anybody else watch the Bobby Charlton programme last night. What a legend, and what goals! Total respect.
  16. My thoughts exactly. Archie still has it at this level. Good signing.
  17. Donnie himself isn't in the photo, but the ball hitting the roof of the net certainly is.
  18. I wouldn't be surprised if McCall ended up at the hunnery in some capacity. Twaddle would be a good signing for us.
  19. Firhill, the Centre of Excellence for facultative turf transplant technology and futuristic turf on pitch (FTOF). Sounds good.
  20. Unfortunately, you can replace "one" with "thousands" in terms of sectarianism in Scotland (and of course noren iron), and indeed by millions across the world in terms of religious and/or tribal discrimination and hatred. It's largely due to the influence of parents and peers, I'm afraid. Edited to add: I've just remembered a long-dormant memory, which is of me having been to a Thistle game and visiting an uncle in Kirkland St afterwards. I must have been 8 or 9 at most. My uncle, not a football fan, though his brothers were Jags men who got me addicted, was going for a walk and I tagged along. I don't remember our conversation, but at one point he made to go into a chapel, at which point I froze. I asked him where he was going, and he told me. Now for some reason, I took a stand and said that I didn't want to go (and I didn't). But I'm not really sure why I didn't. It might have been because my father was probably 52% proddy and 48% cathy, but that once or twice I saw him follow an orange march for 5 min. at most, and he even took me to one H*n match, but he saw more Jags matches than H*n matches, and used to ridicule "orangemen" and hunnery as soon as he'd had a drink or two. But my refusal to enter that chapel might also have been because my uncle just wanted me to go there with him, to get me into timmery while I was alone. I've often wondered what my (late) uncle thought about my refusal, and indeed why I did refuse. We never spoke about it, and were always on good terms until he died.
  21. HJ, I salute your indefatigability (copyright: G. Galloway) in your praise of IM and your valiant defence of his overall performance as a Thistle manager in the face of any hint of criticism. I have no like or dislike, personal or otherwise for Mr McCall; same as for most other ex-managers (though I'll admit to feeling that Derek Whyte really wasn't the type of person that I wanted to see in the job). But, 4 years on we have our youth policy restored, not invented. Other than that, we're not one inch nearer to the declared aim, which was return to the SPL. Not only that, but crowds are down even more than before, and I reckon that McCall's tactical failings and regular renewal of his 4-5-year plan has contributed to that. Yes, let's hope for success next season, and if that's due to some of the players that McCall brought in and signed up, then he'll receive due acknowledgement. But note also that most managers in this league have had their hands tied by severely limited financial conditions. So McCall, like those other managers, is firmly in the pack, not outstanding.
  22. Look at the list. Many of us would be guilty of a few of those, I'd reckon. Sigesige himself requested that the thread be removed (although that would have happened anyway). I reckon he (now) knows that his views on those topics are offensive to most people and he won't repeat them. So he gets banned, then who's next?
  23. They might call in for a fly drink.
  24. Well done to the club on dealing with this swiftly and efficiently.
