Anyway, I was just watching Tottenham vs West Ham and Tottenham got a penalty with five seconds of injury time left. Harry Kane took it and the keeper saved it. Kane then put in the rebound. Should time not be up when he takes the kick? The reason I ask about my memory in the thread title is did we not have a similar situation in the seventies against Motherwell? I seem to remember Doug Somner having a penalty saved and scoring the rebound only for the ref to disallow the goal and call half time. Am I imagining this? Does anyone know the rules regarding this? So if it was a minimum of 5 minutes to go, you'd definitely allow a rebound shot from a penalty before blowing your whistle. SJ I have a vague notion that this has happened at least once in Thistle's history but can't find the match in question. It might have been Dougie right enough. As described at the time in the press (and may still be the rule)...a penalty is the only reason a ref can extend either 90 minutes or 90 + added time. When the penalty is taken and (say) hits the keeper the game is deemed to be over from that moment- even if the taker (or anyone else for that matter) follows up the rebound and scored.
