chunky jag
Was just reading the post about Potter's alleged wage at St Mirren, was just wondering who might be our highest ever earning player? I'm guessing it must have been early to mid 90's with a run in Premier League? Few grand for Nicky Walker or somethin? Anyone any ideas? hamiltonjag
Jackie Husband received a double wage by accident in February 1946 earning him 2 shillings and threpence. A club record that stands to this day.
jagscast
I believe the answer might be Derek Whyte. Seem to remember funny money being talked about when he was at the club.
Trigger's Bucky Bottle
Peter Lindau and Danny Lennon were on a lot more money than the rest of the squad after the save the Jags period.... Wouldn't think they were the highest ever earner to be honest!
jagscast
I seem to remember hearing that Lindau was on £2,000 a week in the Second Division. Grumpy *******, greedy with money, but one hell of a player.
lady-isobel-barnett
Jackie Husband received a double wage by accident in February 1946 earning him 2 shillings and threpence. A club record that stands to this day. I heard Jackie had to pay the money back in instalments, which may explain why he stayed on at the Club so long after he hung up his boots. I believe the answer might be Derek Whyte. Seem to remember funny money being talked about when he was at the club. Charnley says in his book he was used to getting a £15K signing on fee at Firhill. Not that Chico would be our highest earner but signing on fees used to be significant. So if you include that Derek Whyte might well have been our top earner. chunky jag
I believe the answer might be Derek Whyte. Seem to remember funny money being talked about when he was at the club. I remember Whyte saying he had better offers on the table but wanted to move back to Glasgow for his kids goin to high school, I'm 90% sure Lambie said he was delighted to sign him for £500 a week. Maybe hefty bonus money or somethin?
McKennan
My favourite apocryphal tale is that Rod Mac was earning £10,000 a week before the ball went up on the slates in the mid 1990s.
The Earl of Hathaway
Surely Buchanan or Harkins? Rumour mill for those two was generating a lot of zeros. Buchanan I'm willing to believe, less so Harkins, but that's me being naive...

Blackpool Jags
Surely Buchanan. He was running about in an Aston Martin. They're not cheap. Yes, and the few bob he got off the Jags every week might've helped out a bit with his living costs too.
crazy davie
Yes, and the few bob he got off the Jags every week might've helped out a bit with his living costs too. I reckon he must have been on a minimum of £14K a week to be able to afford a car like that.

crazy davie
Might have had a helping hand from his dad... Wow!!! What a generous fellow his dad must be. If only more people were like him, the world would be a much better place.
