  1. Aye, it was a two year deal and this is the second year. I wonder if we've got anything lined up? Considering how well we've done this year, it would be good to get a sponsor with a similar media impact to Kingsford and keep the momentum going. Now we're an established SPL club the cash received should be pretty decent too.
  2. The House of McConalogue Red Monkey's Lair Sabbath Plc Simple-minded Complex Tommy Bryce's Memory Vortex Kenny Brannigan's Training Slum
  3. I think considering the previous tone of the Weirs' investment, there will almost certainly be a strong element of community involvement.
  4. Regarding the current players on contracts, it'll be interesting to see what (if any) effect the new training facility has on contract negotiations. For players in their early/mid 20s with us, the prospect of a decent contract plus specialised facilities could be enough to sway them into staying. That provides us with season to season continuity that is invaluable. Considering the age Kenny Miller is, it would be nice to think that the new facilities could be used to prolong and enhance the careers of Cerny, Erskine and Dools....
  5. Weirdly enough, Tommy Stewart our distinctly unlegendary 'striker' seems to have quite a reputation elsewhere (not the huge signing on fee bit - further down the page https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/feb/22/what-is-the-biggest-fee-earned-from-a-football-sell-on-clause
  6. Add in Albert Craig for Budinaukas up at Ross County - the snowy Quintin Jacobs game
  7. One of my favourite bits from yesterday was Lawless ushering the ball out for a goal kick by bullying their number 23 - despite being 6 inches shorter and about 3 stone lighter! 3 points yesterday was the perfect 50th birthday pressie from the Jags to me and (despite what those fuds on Sportscene think) I think St Johnstone and Hearts are catchable if we keep playing the way we are at the moment. Onwards and very much upwards.....
  8. Hearts clearly weren't up for it last night as they had one eye on Saturday  So anyway, a repeat of 'cinq-deux a la Thistle' would do just fine for my 50th birthday on Saturday.....
  9. You can see the value of Welsh to the team today. A player who can put his foot on the ball, create space and remove the need to get it 'launched up the park'. Without him, our play in the first half descended into a horrible head-tennis war of attrition. No grip on the midfield at all. However, Archie got it spot on subs-wise. I thought Amoo would provide the pace but Hamilton had clearly seen what he did to St Johnstone last week and he was way too close to Muzzy. Amoo doesn't work as a striker as proven today. But put Doolan and Erskine on and it squeezes the play giving Booth and Lawless the space to run.
  10. Great article - read it having a coffee and then bought the paper anyway. Great Moroccan fish tagine/stew recipe in the magazine as well....
  11. Ziggy gone.... http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/sport/partick_thistle/15049957.Partick_Thistle_defender_Ziggy_Gordon_confirms_moves_to_Polish_league_leaders_Jagiellonia_Bialystok/
  12. How do I find out if I'm actually getting entered for the draw for this? Money leaves my bank account every month without fail, but I've never won anything. I think the reference for the transfer still says Jagspot on it.....
  13. The team didn't need persuading - it was the sponsor that had to be persuaded to stump up the funding.
  14. I'd be interested to know how many flats Thistle own/use for player accomodation. I think (from Conrad's tweets!) that there's a couple down at Lancefield Quay...
  15. That explains why he knows the way to goal.....
  16. Get Bob McCulloch back in in January. Best free kick taker of the last 20 years. Alternatively, I'm sure Ross Forbes could be persuaded to move from Morton.....
  17. I don't want to get ahead of myself, but I'm getting whiffs of last season about this team. Start slow, tell and then the results start coming. I'll be honest - I've had enough sh*t times at Mcdiarmid to put me off ever going back there - but a combination of a lift, childcare and an unfeasible sense of optimism sent me there. And that's one of the best Thistle performances I've seen in some time, and certainly atones for the 2-0 defeat earlier this season. With what we've got on the pitch and in management, we can really do something this season - next 3 games are Aberdeen, Mwell away and Govan2012. I wouldn't be willing to bet against 5 points out of that. Thistle go 2nd at Ross County 23rd December as a Christmas present? Like I said, I'm not getting ahead of myself....
  18. Just back from an unseasonably warm Perth. Immense and morale boosting win today after our last honking performance against St Johnstone. As on Wednesday, no failures. Archie's substitutions were shrewd and ultimately with the introduction of Amoo won us the game. The big fn German - didn't have much to do but dealt competently with shots and crosses. Booth - slowly but surely getting back to his old self Lindsay - perhaps his best game in a Thistle shirt today. Got forward effectively and looked comfortable defending. Barton - just that bit gallus. The Son of Shaggy nickname could be a keeper.... Devine - competent, but keep yer hands down of its the new Willie Kinniburgh tag for you Elliott - ran, ran, ran and then ran some more. The Jarrow Arrow is never going to be the most cultured footballer, but he loves being out in that shirt and was pretty effective today Welsh - immaculate today. Moved the ball about to where it was going to hurt St Johnstone most, great free kick for Dools' goal and his corners improved a bit in the second half. Osman - like Booth, beginning to show what we know he can do. No silly stuff and strong defensively in midfield. And that goal.... Edwards - bloody hell. So much energy, but tricky and pacy with it. While I think Welsh and Osman did most of the holding defensive work in midfield, Ryan's runs and changes of ace and direction started a log of our attacks Azeez - beginning to look like a much better fit with the team. Put himself about and probably should have had a goal, but his main strength is pulling the opposition defence out of shape with his pace and strength to open up space. Doolan - scored a goal and always tracked back. Few half chances and things that didn't quite come off. Really, we're spoiled to have him - does everything a good striker should do and then so much more. 92nd goal for the club. Subs: Erskine - looked really sharp when he came on and pushed up to unnerve the Saints defence. Great substitution at a time when it looked like the game could go either way. Amoo - ! On for about 5 minutes, he was so direct and strong that it really pepped up the balls coming from midfield. Great run and skills to set up Osman's goal. Onwards and very much upwards. I'm away for some beer!
  19. Has Cerny recovered from injury and if so do we replace Scully? I'm inclined to suggest sticking with Scully as he's done nothing wrong in the past few games. Although the opposite argument to 'not changing a settled defence' may apply here....
  20. As long as we don't play Slippers McConalogue up front, Archie can select whatever team he wants....
  21. Week before an Old Filth game and the SPL bullsh*t machine goes into high gear - ho hum. Business as usual. Expect fawning interviews with all the usual suspects over the next few days.
  22. Signing quality players who are versatile enough to play well in two positions on three year deals? This club is going to the DOGS.
  23. After our performances against Hearts last season, I'l take us scoring a goal on Saturday and looking like we're at least competing with them at some level. From the highlights I thought we looked OK against Aberdeen, which gives me hope for Saturday.....
  24. Total LEGEND in my mind for missing an easy chance at Firhill when he was with Livvy, kicking the advertising hoarding and breaking his foot. First order zoomer.
  25. Aye, he can get a look at what happens to players when they think they're better than Thistle! :D
