The 3-Point Rule Should Be Abolished

The World Cup Group F shows that the 3-point rule is wrong.

Slovakia -- 1 win, 1 draw, 1 defeat, goal difference -1

New Zealand -- 3 draws, goal difference 0

How can we evaluate Slovakia higher than New Zealand? New Zealand did well more than Slovakia. The 3-point rule was introduced to reduce draws, but that would be a different matter (larger goal mouth, abolition of offside, more strict fouls, etc).

Isn't the point of a points system to reward success/goalscoring/attacking football? New Zealand could have drawn til the cows come home. Nearly as bad as watching Thistle for most of this year.

You leave poor wee New Zealand alone, ya big bully! :o

NZ massively over achieved, given their playing resources. They were nowhere near as technically gifted as any of the teams they played, but they were well organised, worked hard for each other and defended well. That doesn't sound like Thistle to me ;)

It was up to other "big" teams to break them down and beat them, which they couldn't.

As for scrapping the 3 points for a win, that's just crazy talk.
