Possible Sfl Tv Deal

Came across this: http://www.dailyreco...86908-23912841/ (SPL and SFL on brink of agreeing £1.2m Rangers telly deal with Sky).

While anything written in the DR needs to be viewed with a degree of scepticism, if true, it seems to be underselling the value of those rights. If the £1.2m is for 45 matches over 3 seasons, it works out at £13K per club every year if shared evenly among all 30 teams (as all other SFL media monies seem to be).

Assuming Newco get to play and don’t go bust, most SFL clubs with a ground capacity under 5,000 would probably still come close to selling out their grounds even if there was live TV, so any TV money is a bonus. However, surely most other clubs with bigger grounds would lose out. If live TV put off much over 2,000 supporters across the 2 games they are likely to get in that 3 year spell, the entire £39K would be wiped out. Also, as this plan is being dreamed up to attempt to bail the SPL out of their ”Sky TV problem”, shouldn’t it be used as a bargaining chip to get genuine League Reconstruction sorted out first.

I would have hoped that the SFL chairman will have thought of all of that though, so will have a plan!

If anyone was listening, my personal preference would always be for a highlights package over live games. With highlights, more teams get exposure and it sets people up to watch on a regular basis and perhaps is more likely to make them become interested enough to go to an actual match.
