Firhillista
Thought it was really interesting that Caolin McAleer was included in the presentation yesterday. Says something about what the club think of him. Given what was being said about him when he first arrived at the club, could he fill Erskine's place? kni
Junior football to the SPL is a huge step for a young player. Another loan spell, but in the SFL, could be the next stage in his development.
read'n'yell
Look at the youngsters coming through at Hibs, hearts, Dundee united. I really do believe if your going to be good enough you can be playing from 17/18. Only players that aren't going to get too far in the game break through at 22/23. Third Lanark
Has he not played for the Northern Ireland team or was it the under 21's?
Firhillista
I'm sure he's represented NI at some level. Story at the time of his signing was that we were hiding him from Rangers in case they tried to sign him! Have a feeling that he could be our secret weapon! Barcelona's B team is the equivalent of playing first team football IMO - being in the Segunda Division (Spains second tier). Very high standard. Just picking their regulars that were in their youth, their full first team debuts are: Lionel Messi - 16 Fabregas - 16 (debut with Arsenal but had been with Barcelona) Gerard Pique - 17 (debut with Man Utd but back playing for Barcelona aged 21) Xavi Hernandez - 18 Andres Iniesta - 18 (also most played a substantial amount of games in the Segunda first, which is a very good standard of league)
ThickAsThieves
He's had a season in the Juniors and picked up an injury for the last few months. Don't think he'll be ready for SPL football, but we should look to loan him out until January to a First Division side. A replacement for Erskine? No chance. Squad player getting more time towards the end of the season ala Elliott & McGuigan? Possibly.
kni
The club site says that McAleer will be 20 in August. I thought that he was younger.
