  1. I always thought he was very limited despite his asmirable work rate. The amount of caps he won says more about how poor we now are, than how good he was. With more ability to add his pace and passion he would have been good, but i never once thought 'brilliant, miller's playing, he'll be a threat.' Great final memory though - will add some revisionist history to a mediocre international career. And a lot of the above posts are right - this guy cared and would have played for his country with a broken leg - a great contrast to some of the imposters over the years.
  2. Awful result but it had to happen some time. Lots of folk inc me got carried away by the football we can play but we need to be able to score. Sounds like we should have today but didnt, and in the hearts game i did see, we should have won by three goals but didn't. Next couple of games v important, players not used to losing will have a test. Is it just me or do we only ever fail when Welsh doesn't play? How many games has he lost in a Thistle jersey?
  3. It's a disaster for Scottish credibility if they get knocked out - and presumably for our national team's ranking, making it harder to qualify for things. Great being back in the prem but if we end up being part of a league that is as good as Ireland's or worse than Khazakstan's then not so great. Results like this and Hibs 0 Malmo 7 are just a national embarrassment.
  4. I suspect he is, but obviously it's a v stressful job - he's only lost once in 20 plus games, so the defeats will increase the stress. But he looks like a v calm guy, we know he's tough from his career with us, and he got the team back to win the crunch Morton game 3 days after the cup final - so i suspect he's got the mentality to cope. Given how he has undoubtedly improved this team, increased individuals' ability to take the right decisions, and build a team ethic far stronger even that what McNamara (a player's manager) did, i think he'll be more than ok. I dread the inevitable 'run of bad results' but we bounced back before, and unless we've seen a false start, this league provides little for Archie to get upset about.
  5. I thought we were great and should have won about 6-0. Hearts were apalling and deserved nothing. It strikes me that this is a very poor league and unless Aberdeen or Caley are any good, we should be aiming to come top 3.
  6. Does Kes count? Great scene when the teacher gets carried away and takes the boys game too seriously! Gregory's Girl? Dunno about ETV - Stallone's goal keeping was farcical. Johnny Wark scares a frw viewers with his looks too!
  7. Spot on. Football wrecked over recent years by cowardly managers who play 'percentage football.' would love it if archie has the courage to stick with a young group, instructed to pass and take responsibility... And basically try abd win games by playing football. . I think he might based on evidence so far - plus he has a team who it's hard to see getting out-muscled in the way that they did when macnamara's team could. So there is no need to sign journeymen. Hopefully many clubs are realising that pish entertainment and spl survival adds up to non- survival of the game in general - and thistle can be part of a brave new world - mainly scottish players who can play and with a team ethic snd toughness that used to characetrise scottish teams. Sorry, i'm pished obviously.
  8. Sensational result!! Magic stuff from Archie. Inyetesting that he's pretty much sticking with last year's guys. Who were stand outs today?
  9. Agree. But why are people so negative? Really gets my goat. We've had some joke boards / managers who deserved to be burned at the stake (so to speak) but we don't now. It must still be hard running a club on limited funds, so let's just acknowlege the effort and forgive a few things.
  10. Not sure it matters. In scotland when ive said 'thistle' no one has ever thought anything other than thistle, ie 'our' one. Even down here thistle means ptfc to any fan with a brain that extends to pre-mourinho premiership bollocks. Dont worry too much about dafties / wa&/ers
  11. Metz was magic. I remember arriving in Dover by train and hearing then finding small groups of Thistle fans wandering around looking for the ferry - every single one of us already blitzed. It was also good drinking with the players after the match - Steve Welsh in particular to be a great guy - Dinnie and Pittman were sound too, a bit nuts though from memory (admittedly shaky). Not big or clever but a great 3 days if daftness.
  12. Ps am not being xenophobic, same thing applies to players at all levels, eg hibbee neds like o'connor - ability yes but bad news for the teams they play for.
  13. Neymar is like the the uruguayan scouser, great player, but a dung dweller. I dont think the barca move will work - he wont fit into the team ethic - barca / spain work phenomenally hard when up against it (admittedly rarely); this guy wont.
  14. Agreed. Some folk will always slag the Board whatever happens - not worth listening to. The current lot seem to me to have few equals - they have made goodanagerial appointments, signed players at the right times, provided a number of onitiativrs that have put the fans at the centre of what is happening, improved our youth set up, paid down lots of debt, and we're back in the SPL as a result, to a latge extent thanks tp their efforts. So when i read folk getting angry (or probably just pretending to as no lifers tend to) i think it's really sad.
  15. 1. We either finish 5th or last (unless Hearts get docked) 2. We horse united on opening day in front of 8,000 with paton getting sent off for a wild lunge on muirhead, and erskine subbed - the latter is dignified and claps the jags support despite being booed by some; mcnamara is sent to the stand for protesting about paton's red. 3. By October Muirhead and Bannigan are either being tipped for caps or are out injured for ghe season. 4. By November Archie is touted as the next great manager from the wild west, and is the subject of patronising articles by Graham Spiers about a tough but fair upbringing, and spurious links to the Moyes or Lambert families. 5. In December there is a tabloid sensation about a 'night club incident' involving several of the squad. Archie talks darkly of 'responsibilities'. 6. By January Macnamara is sacked by united and takes them to court over unpaid bonuses.
  16. Loved this team - esp number 5 and the sub - genius!!!!!
  17. Very poor. 1 free nelson still 2 we fought the bobby law 3 john menatworkman 4 jefferson airplane sinclair 5 jackie campbell said 6 angry anderson 7 ray-eo speedwagon 8 sandy shaw 9 joe cars 10 who let the dougs out somner 11 nazareth evans
  18. Agree the football this year has been different class. I think Lambie did make mistakes and falling out with players wasnt always a v good idea (!) But he got us up then kept us there when other clubs were spending daft sums - the SPL in the early to mid 90s was a much better league than it is now, and there were outbreaks of good football as a result of signing guys like Shaw, Irons, Cameron etc plus he got the most from people like Kinnaird and Farningham. Will agree to disagree, but interesting thinking about this all the same!
  19. Didnt know that I think i remember him - good in the air, slow, no ability - cant remember why i liked him !
  20. What??!!! 7k a week???! Thats simply not possible
  21. Steve Welsh Alan Dinnie Greg Watson David Rowson John Buckley Colin West Pogo Smith David Moss Andy Lyons Pat Kelly Andy Anderson John Donnolly Gary Peebles John Mitchell Paul McLaughlin (just for the Tenents Sixes) Martin Lauchlan - whatever happened to him? Bobby Houston Gerry Doyle Budgie McGhie - cant remember why - was he pish?
  22. Ich weiss eine Frau Eine nette nette Frau Sie ist sclimm wie der Paper an die Mur Sie hast Beine wie ein spider Ich wohne sie riden Mary aus Maryhill Hope there's no German teachers on here - Munich beerfest education not all it's cracked up to be.
  23. Of course it doesn't but that wasn't the point. Without Lambie we would probably have sunk so far as to have become another Ayr - vague history but a nothing club. We were terrible for tears until he took over, then even worse until he came back. Archie will do well to achieve half what Lambie did for us. Virtually all of our best results in the last 30 years were when he was with us - several promotions, comfortable in SPL (sort of), no relegations. Shame we never made a Cup Final as other wee clubs have in recent years.
