  1. It was not "basically a friendly". Please stop telling lies to try and back up your irrational hatred of a player you are supposed to "support". It was a league cup tie and therefor a competitive game. You also try and discredit the league goal he's scored - do headers not count the same anymore because I was under the impression that they did? The guy is having a hard time, his scoring record so far is poor, and he may not turn out to be a success at the club, but please don't create myths and half truths. Stick to the facts.
  2. I think that's what Kellyanne Conway would describe as an "alternative fact". 2nd time today that someone has had to be told that Azeez has in fact scored twice for us in competitive matches. But as ever, don't let the truth get in the way of slagging off one of our own players.
  3. That would certainly be my preference partickthedog. I do find the prospect of Edwards as a wingback quite intriguing but I would say a cup game against this opposition would be far too much of a risk. Although we all remember Archie's "Experiment" in last year's competition, I'm hoping he doesn't make the same mistake again.
  4. That would maybe be a funny joke if Azeez hadn't actually scored his 1st and 2nd goals for the club already.
  5. Sorry but I disagree about the last game at NDP. There was a very strong wind but I thought we played some really good stuff that day and should have won the game.
  6. To take such a stand really is cutting off your nose to spite your face. The only time I ever seriously considered giving up my season ticket were the wilderness years between our playoff win at Peterhead and our promotion in 2013. Firhill really was grim at that period. We were continually finishing mid table in the 1st division and the state of the pitch was truly dreadful. We clearly had some talented players but they quite simply weren't able to do anything on such a terrible pitch. Had it not been for a group of friends that I enjoyed spening time with on a Saturday, I wouldn't have attended anywhere near as many games at Firhill. Green keeping methods may be improving but the cost of maintaining a good grass pitch is astronomical for a club of our size. I worked at Newcastle United during the Olympics in 2012 and they had a team of 5 or 6 guys working on the pitch full time. They had 4 sets of lamps on the pitch at any one time as well. That's the kind of investment required to maintain a modern day top level grass surface and I don't need to tell you that it's a complete non starter for a club like us. We all claim to want to see attacking free flowing football. As the season goes on, that becomes increasingly difficult to do at Firhill and many other places, simply because it becomes impossible to maintain the pitch to a high standard with our resources. So, an artificial pitch would make it a lot easier for us to play the way we want to play, and the fans would have a lot more chance of being able to watch the type of football we all want to see.
  7. Love the fact that we have nomads who live on the other side of the world vowing never to return if we install an artificial surface, Your bluff will be called on this gentlemen. Artificial surfaces are getting progressively better with each generation and it's only a matter of time before all clubs of our size have them. This luddite attitude being displayed by some here is nothing more than posturing. If you are prepared to walk away because of an artificial pitch then I seriously question how much of a supporter you were in the first place.
  8. The most important thing for me is to see decent football played. Not bothered about the surface. It's a lot more difficult to pass the ball on a bad grass pitch than it is on an artificial one. Let's not forget how awful it was to watch some games at Firhill during the Warriors tenure. I firmly believe that the awful condition of the pitch held us back for those years. The fact that we won the league as soon as the Rugby left backs that up to an extent. I certainly wouldn't stop going to games because of a decision which in many ways is unavoidable for the club.
  9. Was a shocking remark to make to be fair and could easily be interpreted as racism. The Ashoka guys were a lot more respectable than Barry Hughes and his mates, that's for sure. Yet I don't remember any such remarks being made about the white Scottish guys?
  10. You're about 20 years out Rid Skwerr.
  11. The company was dissolved shortly afterwards. Something tells me they never had the money in the first place. We dodged a bullet there for sure. But the problem at that time was the vulnerability of the club due to several years of mismanagement. That's why characters like Hughes would be drawn to us.
  12. Campbell got the sack because of results. The team were a shambles. There's absolutely no comparison with the current St Johnstone team. And saying your not normally an angry person doesn't really make your point any more valid.
  13. 40 points for safety at season's end. If we can reach 40 points BEFORE the split then we have a decent chance of top 6. Basing this on recent seasons.
  14. Dick Campbell is completely irrelevant here, can't understand why you've brought him up? Look at some of the scorelines we had under him - many many highscoring games. He was sacked because his team were awful and we were looking likely to once again be relegated to the 3rd tier. He often played with a front 3 of Roberts, Young and Donnelly and for a while we were top of the league that season. He was not sacked because of his style of football, he was sacked because of his very poor record of results. I think a few people need to watch Wednesday's match again to be honest. St Johnstone looked far more likely to score in the 2nd half than we did, and had 2 great chances where they should have done better. I really don't see where all this is coming from. Say all you like about them keeping the ball in the corner, but the ball is in play, it's up to our players to get the ball off them. They couldn't do so because they weren't good enough to do so. We lost the game because we weren't very good, we were not cheated by the opposition. This thread and the reaction of Thistle fans in general does not show the club in a very good light. We are not the free flowing team that won the 1st division anymore either. We don't have the quality to play like that in this league and have had to adapt accordingly.
  15. To be fair it was 1-1 at that point. But yes, it ultimately cost us the game.
  16. MMCF - Having originally stirred the pot, I don't think you quite appreciate that football match and a rock concert are not the same thing. Comparing them is pretty ridiculous. St Johnstone's job is not to entertain Partick Thistle fans, in fact it is their job to make sure that we have as miserable an experience as possible. Their manager is free to set up his team which ever way he likes. He is answerable to St Johnstone fans, not us. As I have already said, they don't seem to be complaining much, seeing as they are comfortable in the top 6 once again this season. Let's turn it on it's head. Say we go up there next week and are winning the game 1-0 with a minute to go. Instead of walking the ball in to the corner we go and try and score another goal. Except we get caught on the break and concede an equaliser. Archie comes out after the game and says "Well, we did want to protect our lead and see out the game, but we didn't think that would be very nice for the St Johnstone fans, so in the spirit of entertainment we tried to score again". Do you think that would be acceptable to the travelling support?
  17. Agree. Some of the sour grapes directed at St Johnstone for simply winning a football match during the week were embarrassing.
  18. Severe sour grapes from a lot of folk on here, that's all this is.
  19. Should maybe look up the definition of "mediocrity" Firhillista. Because winning the Scottish Cup for the first time in your history and achieving European qualification 3 years on the trot is certainly not mediocrity for a club like St Johnstone.
  20. How do our attendances stack up against theirs? Considering we apparently play this exciting and entertaining brand of football? They actually do ok if you take the population of Perth in to account. Their problem is the same as ours and countless other clubs - the stadium was built far too big for them.
  21. Sorry Firhillista but you aren't being completely honest with yourself I'm afraid. Are you saying you've never seen a thistle player feign injury? You've never seen a thistle team slow the game down when leading 1-0? You've never seen us take the ball in to the corner? I would suggest you watch the game again. In the 2nd half St Johnstone actually had the best chances. They cut us open twice on the counter attack and should have done better on each occasion. I can only recall us having Keown's chance in the 2nd half as well as a very weak header from Azeez which their keeper was able to collect easily. St Johnstone came to win the game and they did it. I have issues with the referee's performance, and it sounds like your gripes are actually with him. St Johnstone are a very successful club and I don't recall any of their fans complaining about their style of football. So save us the moral outrage. You are angry that we lost the game, as we all are, but you can't blame the opposition for beating us.
  22. They have every right to play the game the way they want to. So those decrying them for not being entertaining. I ask you this - would you be happy to watch that style of football if it delivered a Scottish Cup win and European qualification 3 years running? Anyone that answers no, you just aren't being honest with yourselves I'm afraid. Last night we saw a St Johnstone team that took their chance and were very well organised and disciplined in the 2nd half. They weren't there to entertain the sweety paper rustlers in the Jackie Husband stand. We also saw a very poor performance from our own team who completely ran out of ideas and looked more likely to concede at 1-0 than score. We lost the goal because of a quite frankly shocking individual error after playing well in the 1st half. You have the right to vote with your feet and not attend matches, of course. Will be interesting to see how many of you actually follow that through.
  23. The simple fact is that usually about 90% are not good enough. They've either got the talent but lack the dedication or vice versa. It's not all about how much we make on a player either. Bannigan for example, we were set to lose him in the summer for nothing before his injury. Had we done so, would anyone really feel that we hadn't got value for money out of him? Absolutely not.
  24. Inverness look doomed just now. Accies always seem to do just enough to stay safe. Surely to god this is the year Killie will finally go down but their continued survival is one of the biggest annoyances of Scottish Football. A win tonight could be massive.
  25. Anyone involved in the game I've spoke to has said that no more than 10% of players will ever make it, no matter how much money is spent on a youth system. The vast majority don't make it, that's just life. 2 out of 9 is pretty good going. To say anything else is just ignorance.
