  1. the rememdy of league reconstruction is no longer sufficient for bringing scottish football back to life. society has moved on as stated eloquently elsewhere. and scottish football is incapable of reforming itself anyway. so we are left with utopian visions that would be ineffectual even if activated. so whats the alternative for us. I'd say to think as an independant agent (which is all we can do) and try to move to a context that is more fitting for our development. The english league. The old firm were the first to realise this - i suspect in a few years we will see many clubs starting to explore this option. it would be great if we were the first to give it a go.
  2. that would just be silly since any democratic group would draw from the same people anyway. we need to get away from blameing people that have stepped up to the mark (including those who have just left) and start stepping up to the mark ourselves. FCUM 300+ volunteers and we can't even fill a committee. a joke innit?
  3. Uch you know fine well that anarchism is a pretty broad church one of whom you mentioned influenced marx pretty strongly about property (proudhon). Some anarchists are admitedly indidualistic such as anarcho capitalists and others who are pretty into the philosophy of stirer whilst others total opposite and out and out marxists. The library could do with some more marxian contributions thats for sure. Whats good about this library as it takes contributions so if people donate marx stuff the representation will get better. theres a lotta bookchin stuff there which i like.
  4. Are you saying that no answer can be arrived using the principals of dialectical materialism? Or are you just referring to the "motion" aspect of it. Always thought the term was actually historical materialism as applied to humanity whereas dialectical materialism was engles applying this science to the universe. No? A poster earlier was referring to tax as state sanctioned theft. How can it be so when it is the very same state that enables property rights to exist in the first place? Another perspective is the notion that property in itself is theft (proudhon)
  5. some good stuff on there - will get better as it relys on people donating stuff to them. not much by marx interestingly.
  6. never been to the autonomous centre. gives me an excuse to visit edinburgh.
  7. uch im not too fond of the word radical myself to be honest. nevertheless its a good resource to have as as lot of that kinda literature is difficult to obtain. I'm wanting to maybe do my dissartion on anarchist thought and/or history but the glasgow uni library has very little in the way of books on that subject. this library will suit my needs if i choose to go down that path... edited to add: You can't say much about political **** with a quote from the independant in your signature hahah
  8. Browsed through the collection - lots of good stuff! The Scottish Radical Library is a unique resource in Scotland. It houses a substantial collection of materials of social, cultural and economic interest, comprising thousands of items donated by users, supporters, members and publishers. http://srl.autonomous.org.uk/ At the Autonomous Centre Edinburgh, 17 West Montgomery Place, EH7 5HA, UK
  9. edit post wrong link har har... interesting developments... http://news.scotsman.com/scotland/Protesters-occupy-Glasgow-bank-to.6593087.jp
  10. woudl not be a problem if there was sufficient social housing for the population
  11. it would be a nightmare for our image to be tarnished eh?
  12. the accusations of bigotry have nothing to do with expressing antipathy towards the old firm. the accusation arose from the bigoted language expressed by the poster in question.
  13. oooh the bigot resurfaces and doesnt actually adress any of the points made to him - only wee populist sideswipes to appeal to the mob. the kind of numpty that probably thinks its cool to make a ten year old cry. The sniggerer hanger on to the school bully. You really are a pathetic creature.
  14. unbelieveable stuff. i've always been a believer in fans policing themselves but this thread really puts taht idea to shame. seems that some people on here are more concerned about how this discussion might reflect upon our image tahn actually dealing wtih the shit that went donwn. People aught to know that they regulate their behaviour in front of kids a bit - we do that sorta thing all the time, do we talk the same in the street as we do in a job interview? If that was my daughter that happened to, id be buying a season ticket - just so that i could get time to pick off each person that threatened her one by one game by game. absolutly disgusting and the apologists have just about undermined any credibility to the notion of fans policing themselves. and other people that saw that shit go down and never made any interventions. that is just the same shit as seeing a bloke hitting his wife across the road and saying nothing cause 'its a domestic'. i'm a great believer in the notion that by being a family club should not conflict with the notion of having a proper football atmosphere like in the old days, but in the old days people took some kind of social responsibility and had the balls to deal with stuff it it was going wrong to the wrong groups (eg kids). its that gutlessness that makes the case stronger for having the sanitised over policed atmosphere that is killing the atmosphere of the game. edited to add: the hello hello song has been approved by the sfa. its an antisectarian song.
  15. thats not a very luuvie thing to say
  16. my 8 year old daughter loves NOFX! whats your views on greenday and offspring?
  17. another ultras thread! how funny.
  18. ha if this is an attempt to start a 'we should have an ultras group' thread - prepared to be shot down!! i hate stuff thats led by the tannoy. we should sing hello hello how do you do before every game..
  19. I genuinely don't get that. The flower of Scotland is clearly a rebel song of sorts that has independance sentiments behind it. And then wearing stuff that is emblematic of our 'bondage' to the UK how does that work? Is that to do with the infamous 90 minuite nationalist that jim sillars used to talk about?
  20. may not be purely about religion but it definately has parallels with dodgy views about people of irish origin within our society that ran very deep and had real implications for their mobility within our society. (part of the reason behind the formation of celtic fc) heres a nice quote from Gerald of Wales History and Topography of Ireland that should illuminate that some of the orgins of the soapdodging expression in our discourse. They [irish] use their fields mostly for pasture. Little is cultivated and even less is sown. The problem here is not the quality of the soil but rather the lack of industry on the part of those who should cultivate it. This laziness means that the different types of minerals with which hidden veins of the earth are full are neither mined nor exploited in any way. They do not devote themselves to the manufacture of flax or wool, nor to the practice of any mechanical or mercantile act. Dedicated only to leisure and laziness, this is a truly barbarous people. They depend on their livelihood for animals and they live like animals
  21. it only becomes ethnic nationalism IMO if one sees a person picking to play for a football teams of their forefathers as a 'rejection' of their scottish identity. can someone not feel say x(due to ancestary) and scottish at the same time and demonstrate those aspects in different manners?
  22. agreed. when he hasnt been in the aftermath of an injury hes looked sharp as ****. reckon that could come back again.
  23. wikipedia has got me through many sticky moments I concede that my knowledge of how football is run is shit so heres a question. what about gretna? They've been to and fro between asscociations..
