  1. We've basically got a good relationship. I know you think that all I do is take, take, take but, given time, you'll find that I'm a giver really. Stick with it, I really think we have something special here. I long to hear those three little words...
  2. At the moment, that's debatable. So how will this new 'debt free' status help us better compete in the premier league? Again, from the Evening Times; "Whilst the news of the club going debt-free will undoubtedly be welcomed by the fans, Beattie was quick to temper any expectations of additional investment in the playing squad." I really hope you're right about how big this is but at the moment I don't have enough information to reach that conclusion.
  3. I don't have a business mind. Can someone who does reconcile the following statements for me, all from the Evening Times article. 1. Free of debt 2. Mortgage free 3. We owe no money to any other banks
  4. One week to go until I invite predictions for the first game in this competition. Seventeen Jags standing at the moment. Willjag Thick As Thieves jagaloon sb1876 German Jag digger Jaggernaut Fawlty Towers jaggy jagfox dougie247 The Sunnylaw Jag G13 jag Peaty FC JAGSMAN1968 shed76 TomReilly Would really like to get the numbers up to give these guys a run for their money. It's only three quid a go and the winner will walk away with Declan McDaid's home top at the end of the season.
  5. Football is back this week which is good news. Dust off your Mystic Meg hats and get your predictions in. Deadline 9pm Friday. Not involved but just reading this for something to do? Feel like you're missing out? Head over to Last Jag Standing. It's only three bloody quid.

  7. So, that's why we couldn't play Aberdeen on Saturday!
  8. I would hope that the football authorities, after consultation with the French Consulate, will give guidance to clubs about what might be appropriate. There have already been events in Scotland to show support for France. France is observing three days of mourning. I just wonder whether eight days after the tragedy in Paris, and many days after the country has officially ended mourning, it is necessary to mark the occasion at Firhill. Jags fans have one of their own to commemorate and we should show the greatest possible respect for Brown McMaster on Saturday.
  9. This is a very good point. Personally, I'm a bit of a francophile and was in Paris with my kids earlier in the year. They, with my ex-wife, were in the Cambodian restaurant that was attacked, a couple of years ago. We were at the vigil in Glasgow last night. Nationally, I thought that the reaction could be explained because it is indeed close to home, an attack on a neighbour. A place that a lot of people will be familiar with. Internationally, the reaction supports your views and diminishes mine. I saw a picture of the Sydney Opera House illuminated in blue, white and red and thought exactly the same thought as you; of one line news articles about a bomb in a Baghdad market that killed hundreds, of other dimly remembered news stories. I hate stories that highlight one Briton killed in a massacre. Are the media to blame for filtering these stories? or are these the stories that we want to see? We need to start treating all people with equal respect. That is the measure of a civilised society.
  10. They don't influence opinions, they are opinions. What can we influence?
  11. This is a football fans forum. A talking shop. A coming together of disparate views. What influence does it have?
  12. Ah yes, that goal. To be fair, the boy put it on a plate for him.
  13. There will be a vigil today in support of the people of France. 4pm at the steps of Buchanan Galleries.
  14. Two quotes from the ET article. 'The club announced yesterday that it had struck an agreement with Bank of Scotland' 'We have no debt, and we owe no money to any other banks' So, is it re-sheduling of debts with the penalty payments being paid by the new investor?
  15. Reaching the age of 60 hasn't brought the wisdom that I hoped it might but it has left me deeply cynical. There is nothing in the club statement or the ET article about the assets of the club. Lot's of positive spin but no details. We don't know who the investors are or the conditions of their investment. There is a lot of talk about communicating with the fans. We have heard this before and nothing has happened. What is different now, though, is that it seems that it was a condition of the deal that the bank insisted on. Along the lines of 'if you want to take your business forward, talk to your customers'. The bank clearly has a better understanding of this than the board. More than just talk, it seems. Supporters are to get an opportunity to have a greater say in the running of the club. Again, a condition set by the bank and not one that the board have chosen. I will reserve judgement on the deal until the full package is made clear. If it is as positive as it sounds then I will praise the board. At the moment, the most positive aspects of the deal seem to have been driven by the bank. You'll excuse me for being cynical about them too.
  16. A great list of achievements. As for the last item, I too would like to know the details of the deal. Given that it was a 'good news' statement, I fear that the details were omitted because they are not good news. Hope I am wrong and will praise Beattie if it all turns out to be good news.
  17. It's not hard at all but why? Why not just turn up and show the card at the ticket office. Creating more work in the office and limiting the appeal of the offer by excluding walk ups.
  18. Thank you TomReilly. The amount raised for the club, so far, now stands at £2001. Well done WeAreThistlers
  19. I'm sure that the club is all over the marketing for this. However, if anybody can reinforce the message, it can't hurt.
  20. This article has more details. http://m.newsshopper...romley_forward/
  21. It's actually meant to be a bit of fun, a chance to win a top for three quid and a way of raising funds for the club. It's not really supposed to be a study of probabilities, economics and statistical analysis. As I am not inviting multiple entries then perhaps sponsoring your own top might be the way to go. I could organise that for you but there would be a hefty handling charge which might take it out of your range.
