  1. Steven Craig in the promotion season.
  2. Not that it says much, but he was probably the second best striker we've signed since promotion... Good luck to him, he always tried and at least gave the impression that he cared which is more than can be said for his immediate predecessor.
  3. That's got nothing to do with how Scottish football is perceived, and is about coefficients. Scotland is currently ranked 26th, and would need to fall to about 52nd in order to lose a place as far as I can see. What I mean is why should we care at all if people from outside Scotland who aren't interested in Scottish football think it's a pub league? For what its worth, we could very easily finish 4th and not qualify for Europe depending on the Scottish Cup winners currently. That's far more realistic than Scotland losing a European place.
  4. Genuine question: why on earth should we care how Scottish football is perceived around the world? The season in Luxembourg is a winter season, and Niederkorn had played exactly the same amount of competitive games this season as Rangers had. The being well into their season argument isn't really relevant here. Rangers lost because they've thrown together a bunch of players who've just met and have a manager who's more interested in telling them what shoes they can't wear than making them a competent football team.
  5. We've played 2 up front a fair amount last season, with the 3-5-2 formation. If we're going to persist with that (which I think we should as it proved fairly successful IMO) then I'd really rather we had more than just Nisbet as cover. I'd say a striker and a centre half are our priorities, and then if we're really, really lucky another attacking midfielder/winger.
  6. Hamilton fans don't seem particularly bothered that he's gone, and he got the same amount of league goals as Azeez did last season. If we were merely needing a back up player to pitch in when there's injury/rotation then sure, but I can't see brophy being a big improvement to our squad.
  7. I don't think Azeez has ever scored at Firhill...
  8. Inverness not being in the league mean that County have no local games (even Aberdeen is over a 3 hour drive away). Added to that, the winter break and the fact that the world cup is next year meaning the league finishes earlier, then midweek games are inevitable. It'd be absolutely ridiculous to expect the highland teams to make the midweek trips to the central belt every time, and its not as if we're the only club with long trips during the week. Its unfortunate, and irritating, but I don't think you can really have a go at the league over this.
  9. I'm almost 100% sure that they can only postpone home games, so no. Hibs is a great away day, and living in Edinburgh is ideal for me. Can't ******* wait.
  10. Against all the odds, Joma have produced a stunner. Second best away kit I can remember for us (the championship winning away kit being top)
  11. I think every Thistle fan is thankful that the Weirs are on board, and grateful for what they've done for the club but that doesn't mean we should ignore other failings at the club. Nor does being in a better position than previously mean that we shouldn't strive to improve wherever we can.
  12. We could slay children at the start of all our games and I don't think we'd hit top 3 most hated clubs in Scotland... If someone changed the name and the strip then I'd have a total meltdown and support one of the smaller Edinburgh teams instead though.
  13. Think the Warriors are in a slightly different ball park that they have next to no comparable competition for fans that we encounter. If you're a rugby fan in the West of Scotland then Warriors are going to be your local professional team. Not to say that we can't learn anything off them, as I know absolutely nothing about them due to hating rugby, but the markets we operate in are completely different.
  14. Central defence would still be a priority I'd imagine. I can't see Lindsay staying personally, but even if he does, we'll be left with him, Devine and Barton as things stand. Should Keown come in as well, that'll be 4 but as Barton is nominally a midfielder and we have a tendency these days to go 3 at the back, doesn't leave us any room for injuries or rotation. With Lindsay probably leaving that exacerbates the issue and I'll be surprised if Keown is the only centre back we get in the door this summer (assuming he does come). In fact, you could argue that centre midfield is the one area of the team we don't actually need to do anything about this summer (other that goalkeeper, obviously). If Dumbuya is fit, we're fine at right back, and Elliott can cover, but I wouldn't fancy Elliott at right back for any prolonged period of time. Booth is solid enough at Left back, but we could definitely improve and Penrice I would think will be sent out on loan again to gain some more experience. We're fairly short of wingers/attacking midfielders, and could always use another striker to help Doolan with the goals.
  15. I'm not really sure what this proves? A bit part utility player who did fairly well but clearly wasn't first choice for us when everyone was fit who has gone on to be a crucial player for one of the best teams in the league 2. For what it's worth, throwing out individual players succeeding or failing at individual clubs isn't proof of anything. There's a myriad of reasons why a player might succeed at one club and totally fail at another, and the relative quality of the league is only one of them.
  16. Caley are gone. Hopefully just for a bit more variety someone else comes into the division. If the playoff had been a few months ago, I'd have fancied Morton to beat whoever they faced but they seem to have fallen apart recently. Still, them or Falkirk coming up, ideally in place of Motherwell or Dundee. I'd expect Accies to continue to be pish next season so want them to stay up.
  17. Good bit of movement by Doolan, though nothing out of the ordinary for him, but I've always loved the pass by Craigen to Higginbotham in this goal.
  18. They have a couple of players who would improve our squad. Scott Fraser and Blair Spittal at the very least would be good options off the bench.
  19. I think the only possible justification for this is that they maybe can't afford to go down. I'd guess that Vardy, Mahrez and a number of others got very lucrative new contracts to keep them at the club and they'd be ****** with the drop in income in the championship, even with the stupid amounts of money they'll have been given for being in the Champions League.
  20. If Clyde get through they'd be by a long way the easiest draw so then ideally next please.
  21. Which wouldn't have anything to do with playing against better quality players in a higher standard of league, rather than anything to do with moving?
  22. Presumably so he can play against Aberdeen on Saturday and we don't need to rush Dumbuya back.
  23. No, I didn't. I have, however, seen us play St Johnstone before and as the same stuff gets spouted every time, I think my opinion is fine based on past meetings. They've won a Scottish Cup, had numerous semi-finals, played in Europe 4 out of the last 5 seasons and been a top 6 club for a while. That's success, not mediocrity. That's as good as it'll ever get for the vast majority of Scottish Clubs.
  24. Why on earth would that matter? They want to get as many points as possible to finish as high up the league as possible. They could very easily finish 4th, giving them a great chance at another season of European football. Are you suggesting that playing as St Johnstone play is acceptable if you're in danger of relegation or in contention to win the league, but not otherwise? They play effective football, are well organised and every player knows their job. If we played like that and matched the success they've had over the past 5-6 years, I'd be absolutely delighted. Of course we'd all rather match their success and play the Barcelona-esque football that some Jags seem to think we play (which is obviously why our top scorer is a centre half), but to call them a disgrace is absolutely bizarre.
  25. As would I. We're going to get relegated eventually. When it happens, I'd far rather have memories of seeing Thistle in a Scottish Cup final than "that time we finished 6th".
