  1. Depends what you mean by mistake …… anyway football is a results business and our aim is to get promoted. Even if we think that overcoming DU might be a stretch I think 95% of us think the budget and squad are good enough to get into the play offs and if we do then that’s an ok season and who knows we might get promoted that way. to not make the play offs is clearly failure. The question is to analyse why that happened and what to do about it. It would not in my view be a given that doolan would leave. there is a common misconception that experience is a kind of time served process the longer you do something the better you will get at it. In our context that’s not true it’s what doolan has learned from what has happened during his time as manager that’s key. Here I’m starting to have doubts, our defence has been an issue from the first league game of the season and seems to be getting worse, yet personnel, formation and tactics never seem to change. our strategy of you score we will score more can’t succeed when the opposition score 3 and 4 goals , the next few games are crucial.
  2. Clearly you have missed a few things…. Ok…..wasiri Williams was announced on 26 June, Ben Williamson announced on 18 July, tominadeloye 27 July, Blair Alston 29 July, Kerr mcinroy 3 August , etc etc…that we signed them mostly in July is not really that big a deal. A look at when other clubs signed their players will tell you that. Unless you’re implying we just signed players for the sake of signing players. most fans thought with our budget and squad we should at least be in the play offs….. the real point is that doolans recruitment and squad building has been poor and is now compounded with poor form. we do have money to sack the manager ( same line was used in not sacking McCall if you recall.) we have just received a £500k investment with another £500k on the way ! Doolan has had a year to improve our defence and it’s getting worse.
  3. The problem is 1 recruitment … poor…. There is no cover for the back four that Doolan wants to start with 2 organisation … poor …. The relationship between defence and midfield is non existent and provides no defensive protection 3 tactics … poor… why change a losing formation … our squad is actually better suited to a back 5 4 flexibility … poor…. We don’t react to what the opposition are doing and become too rigid week in week out 5 goalkeepers … poor… just poor Our defensive performance was a weakness under McCall and after a year in charge Doolan has not improved it at all which is a real concern.
  4. It’s an aim not an outcome……lose on saturday and we will probably go down to fourth …..
  5. McCall at least had the excuse of a number of injuries to key players for most of that time …..Doolan just keeps doing the same things with the same players which is a classic sign of not learning.
  6. What grates is that Ayr are poor …..dreadful
  7. We are in the kind of run and free fall that if you were ian McCall would get you sacked.
  8. Last four games we have conceded 13 goals….. our goals against average per league game is now 2…. just so poor
  9. So far our average goals against has gone from 1.66 to 1.72 …. Impressive
  10. On the bright side it’s statistically unlikelyAyr will score 4…..
  11. Thistle defence take the lead ….ffs
  12. Thistle attack 1 Thistle Defence 1 … game on !
  13. Well there goes the clean sheet … not a surprise
  14. Don’t play sneddon, shake up the back four and we can win.
  15. This entire thread you have been making comparisons between the two…it’s far too early to judge doolan as a manager but if he doesn’t sort out our defence he won’t be here much longer That’s very very poor……we are conceding 1.66 goals a game and our defence is a shambles …..you just can’t say what is obvious ……there has been no meaningful improvement in our defensive performance since doolan took over as manager that is the simple fact. in his post match interview he said after every defeat and setback we always bounce back……which is why we have conceded 9 goals in our last three goames and not won any of them.
  16. That’s a brave statement and far too early to make unless you havnt watched our last three games…l
  17. Your point on fitness is well made …..there is a concern we are not as fit as other teams
  18. As ever the chosen starting and ending point for comparisons are relevant …..the end of the season is the time to do that. so far doolan has completely failed to put together a decent defence ……there is little evidence to date that he has rectified that problem which was the same under McCall. are you suggesting that if doolan finishes the season 5 points worse off than he finished last season he should be sacked ?
  19. Sadly he’s not in goal or central defence ….
  20. The key issue for us as it has been all season is our inability to defend. We have now lost an average of 1.66 goals per league game which is just very very poor. We play the same goalkeeper and back four ( unless forced to do so by injury) irrespective of form or results and not surprisingly nothing changes. Our midfield are too easy to play through and provide inadequate defensive cover. i do wonder what we do in training all week as there doesn’t seem to be any learning or improvement happening. We have lost 9 goals in our last three games. our focus now is getting into the playoffs but our form is now a concern. doolan has some work to do.
  21. The fan owned share holding cannot go below 51% so what’s the issue exactly personally I would take the £500k and raise the additional funds necessary to turn the bing into a safe standing area
