  1. I'm fairly certain Lance said the gent was celebrating his 95th birthday. Think he posts on here under the username sigesige00.
  2. That of course is under the assumption that other clubs are marking time. I think it's fair to assume that not a few players above the level you mention will be struggling to find clubs willing to pay their current wages. Other clubs are suffering as well.
  3. Malone did score against Celtic but hardly ever gets a goal. Way short of Twaddle in class imo. Might be wrong but I've always thought Malone's strength was in going forward and he's more than slightly suspect defending. Don't feel with two aging centrebacks he'd be the type of left back we need.
  4. Thanks for that. We can certainly be concerned with the lack of goals over the last few months but when they come along we can't grumble at the quality. Our last four, these two goals, Doolan's on saturday and Donnelly's at Dunfermline have been crackers. But next season let's go for quantity over quality, please.
  5. How about Paul Ritchie's penalty at Peterhead? He actually had to run up to kick the ball. Never thought he could do that (run that is).
  6. In only 5 of the 22 games did we lose more than one goal, which in my mind puts a different spin on it. I got the impression the defence was competent enough and they were just prone to the odd switch off. Things could have been a bit better if we had had someone with a bit of height in midfield to assist(a Jamie Adams type of player). I'm not too concerned about a Robbo/Archie central pairing or even a Kinnibugh/Robbo partnership for next season but to compensate particularly for the former we're going to need both pace & speed of thought about our full backs. That's something of concern at the moment.
  7. Roberts goal v Dundee (the night the ref reversed the penalty) was a particular favourite of mine. Well worked interplay. It showed what can be done even on a mess of a pitch.
  8. Yes, one of the McCall five. Dobbie, Gibson, MacKay & Clarke being the others.
  9. What I was hinting at on another thread yesterday. Season's over so I wasn't getting at the lad over enjoying himself.
  10. McParland seems to have lost his way. He was no great loss to Livi and been no great shakes for Queens. The very fact that he's not on the radar at Palmerston rings alarm bells. I was an admirer of T McP but we'd have to be fairly sure of the root cause behind his fall from grace before offering him a contract. On season 08/09 form he'd be a tremendous signing but
  11. Should have told him to beat it.
  12. I'd have thought Klimpl was the one surprise on those being released from contract. We could've used Malone this season but I feel even on our budget we could maybe do a bit better.
  13. Tuffey fair got your back up I like to see the youngsters get a chance asap and not wrapped in cotton wool but I'd make an exception for goalies. Don't like to see them thrown in the deep end to early in their careers as their confidence can be too easily shattered. Scully looks like he may have a wee bit of growing still to do in any case.
  14. Apologies if this has already been posted. From a Doonhamer's perspective Really very good coverage. Definitely got better supporters than most.
  15. Be difficult to set out our objectives till we find out about SPL reconstruction if any for the following season. If there is how will that affect our division ie will there be SFL reconstruction as well? If as some are predicting there could be two clubs promoted to the SPL (with no relegation from SPL) next season then I'd imagine not just Dundee but two or three other clubs may throw in some silly money to try and finish in the top two. If that's the case unpopular as it would be I don't think we should set our sights much higher than mid table. If reconstruction is on the go and there's maybe play offs for 2nd promotion spot then that's a different matter. We really have to make sure we're prepared for that. the revenue from one or two bumper crowd play off games would justify a slightly higher player expenditure. Failing a no play off scenario, if we see some quality throughput from the youths (first signs are encouraging but still too early for real confidence)then I'd be content with a 50pts plus mid table finish.
  16. That's got to be up in the air till the full extent of his leg break/recovery is known. If there's no lasting damage he may be a decent signing as player/coach. Others will be aghast at the thought but I was impressed with his last three performances as a player and it's just my gut feeling based only on what I've heard that he'll make a very good coach. Re Adams, Lovell & Shields being "a waste of money", I doubt many can argue with that. The Lovell thing's been talked to death, fine initially but extending past January the real crime. Buchanan was out to start with and the partnership really should have worked better. When it was clear Lovell had fitness problems then it was time to say goodbye. With Adams imo the mistake was the opposite. Why take a guy who's not match fit on a short loan if we didn't have a first option on a deal to the end of the year. From what I remember if Jeffries hadn't jumped ship Adams was going to Queens straight away in January. As for Shields sorry, I've really no idea why he was here.
  17. Excellent photos as always, Jim. The two action shots of Tuffey are exceptional Thanks for all the photos throughout the year even if the subject matter was too often a bit dismal.
  18. Tells me he's up there this moment welcoming Harry Commentator.
  19. So why mention it? That's been the second reference within the last 24 hours?
  20. Glad you came back after your self imposed exile. Given what you missed not many could blame you staying away. Find it quite interesting to read your opinion of certain players from someone who's missed the last 14 or so matches.
  21. I agree, but you've got to question folk who say the game is corrupt from top to bottom. That's just sheer nonsense. In fact it's totally ludicrous. Just look at the way Dott wins frames 23, 24 and 27 tomorrow and you'll see exactly what I mean.
  22. Sorry. Best I can do is Scully McGeough(1)sent off Stevenson Left Centre back Left Back (the stocky fellow who doesn't take prisoners) Campbell Lockhead(2) Bannigan A.N.Other who got booked Fraser(Burns) Tully
  23. as above but I would add a mention for Colin Stevenson. He won about everything in the air, has a real dig about him and can play a bit as well. Just turned 18 and looks a decent prospect.
