  1. Really can't see any merit in keeping Cardle. On the occasions I have seen him he has made very little impact on the game in general play, even when we won. Also difficult to understand why anyone would want to keep Zanetta - another player who contributes very little and who seems totally disinterested when on the field. His attitude reminds me of Amoo! Anyone remember him? There are players 'inside' all of the players mentioned in this thread, I think that about Mansell, but it appears we need a magician to bring out their ability and commitment not a manager!
  2. One of the major differences I think, as jagfox points out, is money. Also in the case of most of the clubs mentioned a wealthy benefactor (s) who was willing to put money into the player budget to fund signing the club couldn't otherwise afford. For example, Kilmarnock (Johnston and now Boyle), St Johnstone (Brown), Motherwell (the Amerkcam/Canadian businessman prior to fan ownership), Ross County (McGregor), Dundee (various businessmen over the years) and St Mirren (Sale of Love St - £16 Millions). I know the above isn't the only reason as some of our managerial appointments and signings has been very poor. However could Kilmarnock have appointed Mackie as their manager or signed players like SOD on the level of revenue generated from attendences of around 5000 and related merchandising. I doubt it. Also their accounts for last year showed a small profit with a footnote that the club owed a Director (assumed to be Boyle) £800000! I acknowledge we have/had Colin Weir but as far as I was aware his support was focused on the Academy and more recently the proposed training centre that has evolved into club ownership and eventual transfer to fan ownership. I am not aware he funded any football related appointments or signings. This is not a criticism of how Colin Weir supported our club. If the rules of Financial Fair Play (not sure this is correct designation) were applied consistently to clubs in the SPL, Kilmarnock, Hearts, Dundee, Ross County, St Johnstone, Motherwell and others would all have been punished years ago for living beyond their means.
  3. Thanks jaf. J Just felt we needed to cut Bannigan a bit more slack given the seriousness of his injury and the related psychological issues. He is coming good so fingers crossed for tomorrow!!
  4. Re Bannigan. Been very impressed with him recently and feel he is at last getting back to the Bannigan of old. When assessing his performance I think we have to allow for the psychological as well as the physical trauma he has suffered. Think about it! A player approaching the prime of his career playing great football and on the verge of signing for a top SPL or English Championship Club. A move which would secure his financial future! He picks up an injury that keeps him out of the game for 2 years and at one point it looked like he may never play again. He has had to put up with a lot including poor initial medical advice on how to treat the injury and of course his own thoughts on where he might have been had he not sustained the injury in the first place. A situation that could knock the stuffing out of a lesser man. He has probably only recently reached the stage where he has psychologically come to terms with his situation and physically completed his recovery in the fullest sense. Also invigorated by a manager who knows how to manage and who has publicly declared his faith in the player I suspect Bannigan is at last focusing on the future and with growing confidence. Hence his good and improving performances. No more injury 'excuses' are appropriate for 'that' injury for Stuart Bannigan. I think for the player it is well and truly in the past. Best of luck to him for the future. (Apologies for length of post) .
  5. Think we have played reasonably well in the recent games (ICT & Dundee) I have seen without really dominating. Agree not much in the Dundee game but thought that though we didn't deserve to lose the game we didn't do enough to win. We seemed to have played well against DU this season but I worry about our Midfield. I think to have any chance of winning O'Ware & Saunders have to be our defensive partnership and Fox has to be in very good form. Here's hoping!!!!!
  6. Always thought Berra was a reasonable player. Perhaps though he has aged, 35 going on 40, more than other players of his age group. I wouldn't want us to sign him purely for his leadership skills as I am sure, given a reasonable run in the team free from injury, O'Ware can fulfil this role.
  7. Possibly/potentially they were! But not under his management. Regardless and even under a better manager the squad is still Work-in-Progress. Hence my repeating what other posters have said re need for some good quality signings.
  8. Wasn't at the game today but was keeping in touch with text and score. Understand disappointment at not winning but think need to keep our eyes on the 'big picture'. McCall has not only kept us in touch with the teams above us, best I thought we could hope for, but also within reach of 4th place. Give the mess he inherited he has us looking more and more like a football team. 3 or 4 good signings and we can reach the play-offs. Who would have thought that was possible 3 months ago?
  9. As per the above + a happy, healthy and prosperous 2020.
  10. Agree with above. Seen Mansell only 2/3 times and like the way he gets stuck into the opposing centre-backs. It seems to unsettled them and they lose some of their organisation and discipline. Miller in particular benefits from this.
  11. Perhaps a bit early to think about the Alloa game but this is a big chance to put some real 'daylight' between Alloa and ourselves. Alloa don't seem to be as gritty under Grant as they were under Goodwin but still are capable of getting the occasional very good result. I think if we keep Trouten quiet the game is their for us. 0-2 th the Jags.
  12. Sorry to hear that Osman Kakay has been recalled. Thought he was developing nicely with the Jags. At times a frustrating player he had good skill levels, always got stuck in and always gave me he played for the Jersey. Best of luck for the future.
  13. On the above basis, gives O'Ware another year, I will go for Cerny O'Donnell Lindsey O'Ware Booth Welsh Osman Bannigan Erskine Taylor Doolin Substitutes Fox, Elliot, Penrice, Frans, Seabourne, Lawless, Higginbotham,
  14. I am a strong advocate for getting Doolin back as a player for another couple of years and thereafter as an assistant coach with specific responsibly for strikers. He has a great first touc, excellent awareness and an attribute which is priceless in tight situations - composure! As far as Christie Elliot is concerned I was very sad to see him leave. However as much as I liked him I have to admit that for a wing back his crossing of the ball was poor. Williamson is an improvement when it comes to crossing the ball and as a defender is on a par with Christy. IMO had we got more of the ball to Williamson v Dundee we might have got a point as he had the beating of the Dundee full back as a couple of dangerous second half crosses demonstrated.
  15. Thanks Anniesland Jag......... I like the final score. Boasting I know but that's 2 out of the last 3 scores I have got right - 3-1 v ICT and today. Hope all Jags Fans can forgive me I am just happy. A big well done Jags and to all the fans who travelled to Greenock.
  16. Not at game but watching score. See that Jags well on top for possession but Morton seem to have had hald a dozen goal attempts since the last jags attempt! Are Morton now putting us under pressure?
  17. First phrase that came to mind was slow and ponderous but see that it has already been used Jaggernaut.
  18. Shocked to learn of this news. A very sad day for all who wear the red and yellow. Thoughts with his family and close friends at this time. A man who will be sorely missed. RIP Colin
  19. I have a passing interest in Morton because my father, long since gone, was a life long fan. Over the years though I have become less enthusiastic about them. Don't know why. As for this weekend's game like some fellow posters I am not feeling very positive about getting a result. There are though a couple of positives: 1. I think O'Ware has the measure of Sutton 2. As the home team Morton will attack which based on our very good counter-attacking second half against ICT could be worth a couple of goals for us. Fingers crossed 2-1 Jags.
  20. Not too far away from Scotland but yes too far away from Firhill. Of course you are correct. It just that everytime I see Madden I think Rowbottom. Don't know why! I'll get treatment!
  21. Just a point and probably in a minority of one. Prior to the goal McGowan and Cardle seem to have a few minor tussles for the ball, I think both won a free kick.with McGowan especially taking these skirmishes personally. It was clear Rowbottom was watching them. From where I was sitting Cardle appeared to want to just get on with the game but on one occasion McGowan ran over to Cardle and said something, which the latter ignored. On another occasion and behind Roebottom's back, McGowan kicked Cardle off the ball. Had the Assist Ref or Ref seen this should McGowan have been given a red.
  22. And today it was Bannigan losing possession in Midfield that led to Dundee's goal
  23. Will get home tonight just in time for Match of the Day so plenty of time to reflect. Thought Fox (for his saves) and the back 4 did well with Saunders the pick of the defence. The game I think confirmed our need for more quality in midfield and attack. I said before the game we needed to get a grip of Midfield (McGowan) and Hemmings! We did the latter to some extent but not the former. I thought Dundee's forward players held the ball well and brought others into play. Our front players by comparison were unable to do the same. I was pleased to see the players keep fighting and playing for the Jersey however it was one of those days when too many were a touch off colour. More composure needed on the ball and a bit more bravery and risk taking - like running at the Dundee defence. Just not our day I'm afraid.
  24. I did too but didn't want fellow jags fans to think I was: a) linguistic and could speak Norwegian, or b) lazy.
