  1. Doolan is such a team player too...couple of occasions Stevenson was out of position last night after a move broke down and Doolan noticed and stepped in to cover for him... Seen Frans in every game he has played for us, he was a bit rusty early last night especially 1st touch at times but he has been out for a bit so excusable - he is a quality player of that there is no doubt and the perfect partner for Seabo....so glad we have extended the deal we have with him...him and Seabo are two of the best centre halves we've had in ages.
  2. That's more like it thistle!! played really well last night and it could have been 7 or 8! but I will settle for 5...you could be critical of Accies but I think their performance levels were hampered by how good we were. Doolan obviously man of the match but I thought Stevie Lawless was immense - good touch / quick & direct and played his part in a few goals and unlucky himself not to get one, pleased for SOD's part in Doolan's header too - I am often critical of his delivery but that ball in was quality... Our back line is so much more solid when it is Frans & Seabo together, the big Belgian had a couple of poor touches early on but other than that he strolls through games....great to see Welsh step back in too even if he took a knock - hope it is a minor one and finally Higgy looked in the mood too, always good to see...that front four being direct and doing things at pace with Fraser / Banzo / Welsh / Abdul in there behind is why we should be pushing top 6 from now until the split...also well done to Christie - I am not his biggest fan but he has done a shift at left back last night and is a player we should definitely try and keep due to his work rate for the team and versatility he offers us... Great stuff and after Saturday exactly why I love being a Jagsman... didn't even notice the cold last night!
  3. Pretty much agree with this, we have good players and are close to being a top 6 team - we need to add consistency and the ability to grind results out more often...if we were truly gash I'd be more worried...Despite league positions (and add in a couple of fullbacks and another striker) there aren't many SPFL squads I'd swap ours with...also like the youngsters coming through dimension, hopefully lots to come on that front over the next 5-10 yrs as the weir programme establishes a return and hopefully is built upon.... If ever I get frustrated with Thistle, which frankly is often (but that's part of the charm my old man said when he dragged me along in the 1st place) is to get perspective by looking back over the last decade...we are so far ahead of where we have been at times and for loads of reasons this current journey seems more sustainable...
  4. I bumped into Sean Welsh pre xmas in a bar in Edinburgh and as he walked past asked him when he'd be back...he seemed delighted to meet a thistle fan and ended up standing talking to me for about 20mins...he was pretty open about loads of stuff and seemed like a decent guy, he loves thistle and is very grateful to both Jackie and Archie for helping his career and being patient with his injuries, he said he was feeling good when he came back v hamilton then said in the st. mirren game the boy smashed him and thats the new injury problem...could tell from way he was talking he is incredibly frustrated by that short return. he is really proud to be our captain and is so frustrated that he has had really bad luck with injuries - got the impression he is genuinely worried he may not be kept on as a result of them... difficult one, no doubt he is a good player and would add to the team but unless Archie can be assured that it is genuine bad luck with injuries I suspect he will move on when his deal ends - shame as he seems like a good guy / captain as well as a good player for us but we can't really have a wage not being maximised...Perhaps he could be convinced around a different deal structure that is along the lines of a pay as you play... On another note he made a good point about the impact of not having Hibs, Hearts away fans, big opening day game vs. Dutd etc. like we did last yr...he said we are about 20,000 down like for like on attendances...that's quite a lot and I had never really quantified impact of this until he mentioned it....
  5. Get your point and agree the way the full backs attacked particularly in the 1st div added greatly to our play, would say this along with Erskine / Lawless interchanging & directness, with the ball retention from our midfielders in banzo, paton et al was also critical to the nice football we have witnessed more often than not in recent yrs... My point with O'Donnell is that he gets himself forward really well on occasion but more often than not his delivery is poor...I suppose thats partly why he is with us and not at a higher level, if he works at that and improves it then he becomes a lot more valuable to the team...defensively most people would agree his positioning can be questionable too...if we had a left back, macmillan (purely in a football context) would be my 1st choice right back, what he may not give attacking wise he more than makes up with his other attributes. I often watch people like O'Donnell closely during games and I think he has had some good games this yr but also some poor games where he gives the ball away, actually think he played one of his best against Utd. where he along with conrad seemed to revel in having extra responsibility with young inexperienced guys directly beside them... Do think if he is looking like going, a pre contract with a team in the same league doesn't feel right - we should move him now.
  6. i like o'donnell but couldn't agree more with above...his delivery is gash 9 times out of 10
  7. think i need to move my seat, never hear any rumours around me! Hopefully it is nothing bad, really rate the boy, he's our best right back, never mind left.
  8. I remember thinking at that game we had taken some amount of fans to Parkhead that day and feeling proud to be a young Jag, also mind going nuts at both our goals with my big brother then copying the pulling the shorts up like Chic did everytime I took a corner for my own team from then on... great memories
  9. But not everyone will play in the Ireland game, he will go with Whittaker at RB and if required Martin can slot in there...so Paterson probably 3rd choice RB and Macleod way down the playing pecking order within the squad...England game a friendly so some people may get a run out who wouldn't normally and then the result is secondary (even though it is England we are playing)...However, both boys may show something in training this week that convinces Strachan he could use them in game at some stage...its a win win situation.....Strachan clearly trying to bed in 1 or 2 young guys each squad gathering so that in theory when their chance does come they feel part of the set up already...taking a middle term view on his squad which I think is a great shout. We need to be able to transition players into the squad and team over time and not have a scenario post Brown where a team comes to an end and we don't have players to filter in... As much as I rate McMillan as a defender he isn't international class and neither is O'Donnell frankly...
  10. And I am seriously beginning to wonder about some of our fans, jaggy are you actually beginning to question the credentials and judgement of Strachan as Scotland manager?have you watched our national team much over the last 20 yrs? Clearly at 20, Paterson is in for the experience as much as being in for cover...Macleod is a very good young player regardless of who he plays for, I like how these young guys are being brought into the fold...last time Gauld, next time I am sure someone else...it has to be the way forward. Only full-back who is Scottish of any quality in the premiership is Shinnie, who from memory is a right sided left back - he must be on fringes and maybe has a case to be in over Paterson as "cover" but can't think of too many others in our top league...
  11. can't wait for the season to start so we can start talking about actual football as some of these threads are brutal on this forum at the moment...
  12. Always comes down to personal preference on stuff like this, must be impossible to please everyone - I like it but I have always liked vertical stripes for us vs hoops - leave that to local rugby & other football clubs, besides it reminds me of the auto windscreens top which is a memory Id rather forget as it was associated with a dark time for the club....not surprised that it is massively different to last yrs which I also liked. Happy with the top and hopefully we get a photo of Lyle Taylor wearing it this week confirming a 2/3 yr deal! Now the away top....hated last yrs, a white top of some variety for me on that front!
  13. Renewed, easy process no probs and can't wait for the new season and the ups and downs it will no doubt bring!
  14. Really poor from those currently in control of our club and not well positioned at all...the facilities upgrade in the toilets better include one of them toilet attendants you get in nightclubs who will wash your hands, spray on some aftershave and polish your shoes if needed!! Even if the club HAD to move fans and not sure they need to, they could have done this so much better and even made it a positive thing if thought about properly but all they have done is p@ss people off...I reckon people are more annoyed about the manner in which this has been managed than the action itself, that said I don't think the issue is enough for me not to go watch my team next season at firhill but something does need to be done clearly. Why don't we go back 20 years and fire a segregation fence in the Jhs and put away fans the other side of it, not been hit by a pie or coin in ages, for authenticity we could also have the p@ss from the toilets rolling down the steps to the front of the stand like the good ol days...
  15. Been critical of him this year as I don't think he has enough quality but he impressed today at right back and I like the effort the boy puts in, he deserves to be part of the squad for next year as he is useful to have around.
  16. Renewing mine next week and looking forward to another roller coaster of a season following the thistle. A few more home wins next term please...
  17. Tell you are p*ssed off and agree it is rubbish from those running the club right now, I think there has been progress in recent years and they don't help themselves with this sort of thing BUT you surely can't let this stop u going to see your team? Players, managers, chairmen...they all come and go....thistle fans we will all always be.
  18. Aye it's me, you've rumbled me......read my post again, I don't agree with this decision, it's obviously not a good one and it seems to have been really badly managed and communicated but I can't believe people would stop going to games due to it.... Perhaps I am in the minority of folk on here with that view but I go for the football and to watch our team play good football above anything else...
  19. Don't agree with moving the fans from the north stand, not a good decision but that's a stinking post to be fair....you won't go to another game if u have to sit in another part of the ground?really? Is watching your team not more important than that?
  20. Very Decent turn out...shambles to get in, 3.20 when eventually got in. As always, proud to be a Jags fan.
  21. Agree with this, along with some experienced defenders for the same purpose, can still play the way we want them too with a bit of stiffening up in key areas. Also when you add good experienced players you give yourself options in case of needing to vary things and or when injuries suspensions hit.
