  1. You think Rooney told his old man to get a few quid on him being sent off? Yeah, absolute must win tomorrow, cannot wait, cmon bonny scotland
  2. Wanted to vote for Hutton, guy is absolute class, if we've any chance of promotion this year we must hold onto him. I went for Cairney, liking the combo of him and Sinclair on the left.
  3. Thought Thistle were excellent on the break all night. Morton looked ok first half, front two will win them a lot of games all season, and the wee black guy at number 8 looked ok on the ball, but distinctly average in comparison to us all over the pitch elsewhere. Thought that was Balatoni's best game for us, read the game well, absolutely brilliant. Sinclair going forward is so good to watch. Kyle Hutton is superb, WE NEED TO KEEP HIM UNTIL END OF SEASON!! Our only hope is if we're top of the league and the boy wants to stay, other than that, he'll be down south in the championship or league one. He's the anchor of our team just now, and I love the freedom it's giving Rowser to break forward. Paul Cairney at left midfield is a revelation. With Sinclair on the overlap, we're looking dangerous down there. Cairney's fitness definitely improved, he tracks back and doesn't stop running all night, really pleased with his form. Stephen O'Donnell was fantastic all night, well deserved motm. Good change of pace, looks like he'll be an important player for us. Elliot lookin better every week, still needs to work on his hold up play, couple of times he came short, and his first touch lost us posession in our half. He is improving though, his first few performances I thought he didn't look up enough and just got the head down and tried to run past players, but he looks like he's getting used to playing better quality defenders, and is improving every week. He's also got a knack of showing up in the right position for goals. I think him and Doolan can do well together, but I'd prefer Doolan dropping short as he's got the touches, and Elliot going long in behind their defence. Overall, delighted, well done Jackie and the boys, bring on the Raith, if we get some decent away form, we'll be there or thereabouts come May. Edited to add, one major problem from last night was the conceding of free kicks around our box, and that everyone of them near enough ended up with a morton player heading easily in our box, need to improve on that.
  4. seen him at firhill a couple of times since he resigned. i think it was personal reasons more than professional, so we prob won't hear. anyone else see billy davies at the ayr game?
  5. The abandoned Aberdeen snow game late 92. 2-0 at half time, abadoned, re-arranged fixture, 7-0 Aberdeen. First game I saw that actually finished we got beat at home to Falkirk 1-0 I think, later in the spring I think that was. First Jags goal I saw was a Ray Farningham header in a 1-1 draw with Hearts at Firhill. Honestly can't remember first away game.
  6. I can't even say I hate the old firm, I just ignore them as I ignore every other team. Worry about your own team.
  7. We were absolutely pish for most of that game, sprung into life when Erskine came on. Hutton looked good in the second half, ran the show, but he doesn't venture far beyond half way line, so more attacking responsibility will lie with Rowser. Last 2 games, we've been awful, and took 4 points. I don't know whether to be raging with performances, or pleased we've taken points in spite of them.
  8. I was impressed by him when he started against Man United year or 2 ago in champions league. Glad we've signed him think he'll do well. What about Fleck is he coming or was that a non starter?
  9. I think you're all being too kind, that was absolutely appalling. I find it hilarious people are talking about still being in the promotion race, there are real problems there. Fox nightmare for the goal, looks so bereft of confidence everytime a cross comes in the box. Central defence was dire, Balatoni was awful, I thought he looked no bad last season - but this year he's been taking too many lessons from Kinniburgh on the art of bombscare defending. Sinclair and Paton played ok but both need to offer more support down the flanks, not enough overlapping. Midfield, poor, Cairney had some lovely passing particularly second half, but he should have been sent off for a second yellow when he crunched Simmons when already booked, extremely lucky to finish the game. Why McNamara kept him on the left for 90 minutes I will never know. He may have x amount scotland caps but that doesn't mean Jackie knows what he's doing, what is this fascination with playing players on the opposite side to their favoured side? A lot of managers do it, **** that, get someone who can hit the byline and get balls in the box. You occasionally see a player cut in like Erskine did and score a nice goal, but more often than for us it results in us being ridiculously narrow with no overlapping full backs. Robertson was poor in midfield, but played better and steadied the ship at centre half alongside an unusually bad Archie. Flannigan done nothing. Elliot was anonymous except for his goal, tries to run with the ball too much, think he's been used to playing a poorer and slower standard of defender, he's got to learn and learn fast when to hold it up, lay it off, etc. But there's definitely promise, 2 goals in 120 minutes is a great start. Doolan didn't do much, scored into an empty net but not much else. No support or service though for the front men. Erskine played well when he came on, thought Tommy Stewart looked more interested than he has done all season, played left wing when he came on, and I think he set up the goal? Didn't see who laid it off. All in all, dreadful performance, but least we still won. But that was honestly, without being OTT, one of the worst wins I've witnessed in 19 years of supporting Thistle. Unless a drastic change, we're in for a tough season in my opinion.
  10. The whole playing in league one doesn't bother me particularly, it's the same level, if not better, than the SPL. You've got the two sheffield clubs, charlton etc in there, not a woeful standard, no worse than Dundee United or Kilmarnock/St Johnstone etc.
  11. A possible starting 11 would compete with czech's and lithuania and hopefully win both games, but we won't have much coming off the bench. We're really short of firepower.
  12. Did he not play rugby at a comparitively high level until a few years ago? He looks a big heavy set boy but didn't think he was too fat.
  13. From the limited sub appearances I saw of Fraser, I can't say I'm that excited by him. I wasn't at the Celtic game right enough, but I attach no significance to friendlies anyway so doesn't really matter. Scored a few goals off the bench, so I'm still willing to give him this season to show he can score goals in this league. Surely one of him, Burns, or McGrotty can come good for us in the next season or two?
  14. Absolute crap yesterday, again like Dundee game, we were passed off the pitch in the first half. Falkirk easily outclassed us, so frustrating. We didn't chase the runners, and Archie and Kinniburgh had a nightmare. Paton and Sinclair launched numerous balls into the channels, but no runners. Tommy Stewart - looking very much like we could have saved a wage and just played Donnelly, lovely touch, classy looking player, but ultimately, no pace, no threat, no penetration, no use. Doolan played well I thought, great goal, holds it up well. Should obviously have hit the target at penalty though. Cairney played well, good on the ball, was a good performance. Sinclair looks excellent, he won't be here next season if he keeps improving. I know it's only the middle of august, but I'm fed up of this pish, we can't just start a season well can we? Let alone a season, starting a game well would be a start. Still think if we get a body or 2 in, we can have a top half season, but nothing more. What does it say for Keiran Burns if he couldn't get on yesterday when Stewart was as anonymous as he was.
  15. I find this a bizarre thing to complain about a keeper. They've no right to save a pen, I can't think of 6 times he's faced a pen with us either, though I bow to your superior knowledge if that turns out to be the case. King Kenny had a great penalty record, but for me, Scott Fox is a far better keeper. Better shot stopper, better with ball at his feet, better coming for crosses/punches, two footed. He's a crackin keeper.
  16. Ridiculous decision.Absolute baws from the ref. 1st half crap, second half much better. Thought we looked so much better for having archie back, he's so key if we're to have a decent season. Robbo in midfield worked ok though he's clearly short of match fitness, but he could be a decent signing, reminded me of big davie moss in the 90s, looks like he'll be good for a goal or two surging into the box. Doolan played well, held it up well and good in the air. He needs more help, Stewart is frustrating, nice touch, intelligent player, but no pace. Basically from what I've saw he's a younger Simon Donnelly. Draw would have been fair result, poor officiating, if we build on that second half performance, no reason why we cant beat Falkirk next week. Our squad is threadbare. We really had nothing on the bench today. I'd rather a youngster with a turn of pace on the bench than Grehan.
  17. I started going in 92-93 season. My team would pretty much be that one, absolutely brilliant team, maybe I'm just being nostalgic. Walker - loved him, my favourite jags player of all time pure and simple. Dinnie-solid at right back after shaky start. Pitman-a rich mans boab mcculloch! Jamieson-superb, gutted when we lost him to hearts, but right enough we wouldn't have got walker otherwise. Craigan-no nonsense defender, how many former players do we have that have starred in wins over spain and england? then in midfield, cameron-classy player chico-genius alby craig-best goalscoring midfielder we've ever had, for me, light years ahead of hardie in terms of quality. harkins-i know some people weren't that fussed with him, and hate him for going to dundee. but for the seasons he was with us, i just loved the guy. disappointed he's not at a bigger club than killie, seems to have went off the boil since he left us. up front, i love gerry britton, and roddy grant. i know theres no pace there, but two fantastic players for us. on the bench, i could list 50 names. but heres my 5. nelson-crackin keeper. grady-only had him for one season, but i can't remember a better individual season from someone for thistle, absolutely outstanding player for us. rowson-love big davie, one of my favourites. marko-i know im sticking with the no pace thing, but this is a favourites team, not bothering about whether it would actually win. super dan-legend. near misses-few players i liked but didnt make it, like andy lyons, mcwilliams, davie moss, stevie welsh, gregg watson(one mistake doesnt change the fact he was a good player for us, well i think!) geordie shaw, callum milne, hardie, trigger, archie, flea, gareth evans, davie farrell (i thought he was a fantastic centre back for us, awful midfielder, but we moved him back to centre half i thought he was great in a poor team). shaggy. ach too many to mention i need to go to bed. by the way was it just me that thought davie farrell was a good player? I also liked nicky henderson.
  18. Thought Rowson would have got pass marks from me. The subs were in reaction to the sendings off, when you're down to 9 men you pretty much cant get back in the game at 3-1 so no point in bringing grehan on and losing 5
  19. Really poor, there's no doubt in my mind we'd have won had it stayed 11v11. What the **** paton was doing on the wrong side of that guy I'll never know. Paton, Bala, and Kinniburgh all poor. Sinclair worked hard to get forward and support attacks but there's only so much one man can do. Thought Rowson was solid as always. Cairney was ok. Flannigan wasn't great, we need more from him creatively. Up front, Erskine done well for the goal, but nothing else really came off for him. Was disappointed we took him off though. Stewart was anonymous, no service right enough. Doolan was frustratingly offside too often, showed some nice touches though, but missed an easy header after a lovely Paton cross. The system isn't working. We have no width. All this eye of a needle shite is a good philosophy to have at Arsenal or Barca but not at thistle. I'd love to see Erskine and Sinclair in tandem down the left. Next week we'll need an improvement, 2 home games against diddies from lower league, for 3 against 4. not good enough.
  20. why we signing mccann we've got erskine thats a waste of money. think it may be a player coach deal? edited to add, he'll just be another sid lovely touches etc slowing everything down.
  21. I am not a religious man, but I come away from a lot of games thinking "thank god for davie rowson". love the big man heartbeat of our team
  22. quite similar to our away top late 90s early noughties
  23. It was a lacklustre performance but I'm not too concerned, still got a few weeks to get ourselves ready. Motherwell look a good side, streets in front of us. Their two wingers annihilated our full backs at first, but as others have said, they soon got to grips, with Campbell and Sinclair in particular playing well. Similar build to Twaddle (Sinclair that is), think he could turn out to be a find. Thought Bannigan looked really good when he came on, always wanting the ball, good use of it, spreading it out wide, not giving it away- wouldn't mind seeing him given an extended run out beside Rowser in the first team. Still think we've enough about us to have a top 3 finish this season despite last night-just wish we'd fashioned a few more chances, was quite poor. But still, this will be our year!
