  1. Easy explanation re Cowdenbeath really......Finished below us with less points regardless of how many they took of us..... and that includes Stirling as well who also took their fair share of points from us but once again finished below us.
  2. I really do worry even at this early stage of the season. My main point is really that this team needed a confident start if we had 2 wins under the belt then not surpisingly to everyone it would breed confidence and most of the younger players would be looking for passes and developing the way we would expect. My main worry is that the longer we go on without a win then confidence and the development of the younger players in this team will get worse. I was at the game on Saturday however was not there last night...we are an average team and even at this early stage its plain to see we will have a struggle for most of the season. There is time between now and the end of August for our board to help the Manager in some way and that means a Striker with some credibility that looks like he knows the way to goal as at the moment its a struggle to see which one of our present forwards will get to double figures this season. I know that we keep moaning about not having any money but surely its better to stay in the First Division than it is to drop out of it as make no mistake this team is without doubt weaker than last term. I would base this purely on the fact that the Dundee team who turned up at Firhill on Saturday was probably the poorest Dundee team that has came to Firhill for a long time and we still couldnt score. And to all those who will come on and say this is a knee jerk reaction be serious, this team that we are watching is not good enough to pull back the bad start that we had last season. Not just that there is no Cowdenbeath and Stirling. Yes I am a season ticket holder and I have been going to Firhill for 40 years and yes I do watch and coach a lot of Football however all of the previous does not make me right but this is without doubt the worst atmosphere and general lack of enthusiasm that I have ever known at Firhill.
  3. Only this Forum and some members can turn what was without doubt a great bit of publicity for the club and the strip into nothing more than Im better than you na na na na. Get a grip I too know Gus and yes he has a drink but is not a drunk...there are many Thistle supporters who go to games and through drink get louder and louder...but its not about that its about Gus and others taking an opportunity and marketing it well...well done to Gus and well done to Greaves..... who without we would have a very poor excuse for merchandise...please everyone get a grip
  4. Its OK Potty Trained everybody would have been too engrossed in the Pub Quiz up the Lounsdale or on their Mobiles trying to get the answer to have noticed
  5. Just listened to that on youtube and without doubt one to get the crowd going
  6. Nena - 99 red balloons quite a catchy tune that could get everyone going
  7. Seriously Lenny what planet are you on....... I think you will find that we all buy Season Tickets because we really like the Jags and wsnt them to do well however if you wish to boost Season Ticket sales then you really need to come up with something slightly different than the Season before. Speculate to accumulate does not always mean that you have to bankrupt yourself just give the fans a signing that is better than we already have and there are a few players out there. 100 extra season tickets over the season generates £28,000 and that sometimes could be down to who you buy and more important show the intent you have for the season ahead. Youth alone will not increase sales in fact basically keeping the same squad that sat in mid table mediocrity and sometimes flirted with relegation is not the best sales pitch by any team. I do think that we will have one of the weakest squads for some time at Firhill and that is more to do with the ability to compete week on week with most of the other squads in the First Division. I do not doubt the ability of some of the younger players in the squad its just the ability to do it over the season as the difference now is we will be relying on more of them more of the time. And yes I did buy a season ticket why......Coz Im a Jag and always will be P.s. I suppose it could be worse and you could be the Queen of the South Manager trawling the car park at the Holiday Inn Express, Strathclyde Country Park randomly asking anybody who loooks like they play football if they want a trial
  8. Yes your right its not going to be the same team just about 2-3 diferences???.....but who exactly is going to partner Archie...who is going to partner Doolan if it comes about....The only real bonus is Fox in goals. We have at this time more questions than answers re the team as there is no way you can expect the youngsters to play for a season. Is it going to be a 4-4-2 or 3-5-1 regardless key positions need cover or filling...left back, centre Defence, Midfield. I do believe and Im guessing that the manager will play 1 up front more often than not therefore maybe not getting somebody else in for that position. But we do need new blood as a whole.
  9. I do believe there is a fair bit of misplaced optimism....I sincerely hope that the Jags do well and I will be renewing my season ticket however lets not be selective on the form of last season this team is the same team that started so poorly different management team or not. I do believe as I have stated before that I think this season will be harder than the last and probably any other. I assume like me many people are fed up hearing about the finacial situation serious though it is but surely we can afford a couple of players to come in who will hopefully freshen up the squad and provide a bit of encouragement for the season ahead. Bring on the new season but bring on new faces as well
  10. Hold on this is Chris Erskine we are talking about here. As somebody else has said he is 24 and should be peforming on a more consistent basis regardless. There is not a hope in hell that we would get 400k or anywhere near it. If as stated we do get an offer for 75-100k then we should bite the hand off whoever is offering and look to bring in players who may give you a more consistent performance over the full season. Yes Chris Erskine is a flair player but only at times and there have not really been enough of them. To win the this league you need consistency and if that means 2 more players who can produce the goods and possibly 5-10 goals each then that would contribute more to a possible league winning side though I do think we are still some way off from that with the quality that other teams will possess
  11. Sorry for not being as excited as others but I feel that this is something that the Jags should not be doing at this time. We have tried it before with the Britton/Whyte combination and it never worked. I am not baseing this debate on Britton/Whyte but on the fact that next season in the First Division is going to be even harder than it was than this season. Therefore I believe now is not the time to tinker with inexperienced management. Dont get me wrong but if it all goes well then I will be the first on here and at the games to heap the praise but if it does go wrong then in the current financial climate and in relation to how bad the crowds have been then it could be disastrous. This seems to be the cheapest option and does this mean that 2 more players wages will be released to the manager seeing as they will now be Manager/Assistant Manager. Last point there is no way that Simon Donnolly should be given another role as a player enough is enough.
  12. I got into Thistle because my Dad and his Brothers were Thisle supporters. I was born in in Partick but moved to Ruchill. My abinding memories are walking through Ruchill park on a Saturday to either the first team or reserve games and just as you get to the top of Ruchill park the glorious sight of Firhill comes into view with the canal winding round it. Them to me are without doubt the best and defining days as a Thistle supporter and I was only 10 at the time. When you were a Thistle supporter at that time in the early 70,s you had bragging rights and you gave as good as you got at School. Later on around 1976 we moved to Erskine and there seemed to be lots of Jags fans there. We even had a Partick Thistle supporters bus that ran for quite a few years picking up from Bargarran shopping centre....oh the banter with the Celtic supporters bus was good at times. Slowly but surely I have passed this on to my own son who I have to say is probably worse than me however one story that sticks out is when the Jags got relegated on the last day of the season against Ayr United and what made matters worse is that it was his Birthday as well. Anyway we went home and we all went out for dinner to celebrate however as expected at 10 years of age he was a little flat and I was getting a hard time off the wife with the usual comment "for gods sake its only a game" mmmmmmmm. Anyway when we went home we went out the back door to kick the ball about and I explained that I was a Jags supporter because my Dad was a jags supporter and that I lived close to the park when I was young. I then said to him if he wanted to support someone else then that was fine. Whoever he wanted to support I would try and get him along as long as it wasnt the old firm. There was a slight pause by him and he looked at me and said " Dont be daft dad I want to be a jags supporter " so after a couple of minutes telling him that something must have flown in my eye I realised I was the happiest man alive and that the female in there that I called my wife didnt know a thing about football and more importantly the religion that is Partick Thistle. Mon ra Jags
  13. I seriously dont think that you can fault him for effort. I honestly believe he is the easy scapegoat in the midfield. There are many more in that midfield who should shoulder just as much of the blame. I would rather have him in the team than Hodge. As for his lifestyle in Paisley it is no different probably from any other person his age in our or any other team. He is a genuine lad that if he is carrying too much weight or is out too much then that to me would say more about the coaching staff monitoring fitness levels throughout the season than the player himself.
  14. Obviously Michael Barrymore and George Michael will not be mentioned in this thread
  15. The rule is quite simple any player has to have played a competitive game for their country of choice..He only played a friendly therefore still has the opportunity to play for Scotland. However word on the street also is that the S.F.A. and more so the Scotland management have been sounding him out. It looks like he will be named in the next ROI squad and that will be the measure of whether he is going to swap nations. Personally I would love to have someone of his ability as a choice.
  16. Im pretty sure there was a previous topic re the subject but what train are most people going to get to Perth on Saturday. Thinking about the 11.41 or the 12.41. There is a good crowd of us going up on the train and would really like to travel up making a hell of a lot of noise and singing.
  17. I would hope that McCall has the sense to see that Hibs are really in decline and no mattr who goes in at this time will still be up against it with a team who are probably now favouritesfor the drop. The only thing that would swing it for him is that you can be sure if Hibs were relegated any manager would be given good money to get them straight back up.
  18. From my distant memory was it not the fact with Martin that whilst his fellow miners were on strike he was still plying his trade as a Goalkeeper earning money rather than the fact he went back to work.
  19. Moron......I think you will find it was the goal that led to the replay and if you really want to call me moron I will gladly take the duscussion further at the game tomorow with pleasure. Im sure you will be easy to recognise as are most of Simon Donnollys love childs. What is it with some of the faceless wonders that sit behid their laptops/PC and want to dish out abuse because opinions differ. I was there on Tuesday night and Donnolly was rotten and basically contributed very little to the 90 minutes which funny enough was pretty apparent not just to me but others obviously hence the other thread. As for the question re who I would have left on out of the choice of 3 Buchanan just because his work rate at closing the defenders down was much better and having scored the goal.
  20. No chance cost us £30,000 at the most
  21. One pass does not a good player make he was rotten full stop and realy should have been substituted.
  22. Got to agree with most of above good all round effort by the team and vey unlucky not to win the game. Big pointers must be the fact when you are so on top you must bury the opposition and I think the 10 minute spell in the second half when we had about 4- 5 corners and plenty of possession we should have scored. However pleased that the the team came back from a goal down and that we have them back at Firhill. The only downside for me was the lack of effort and heart from Donnolly prety poor game and should have been substituted. Great support on the night and how bad was the Falkirk contingent
  23. Just read in the evening times that Airdrie United have secured £100,000 from Celtic for one of their youth players Tony Watt. I know that this has been discussed but it surely goes to highlight even more the importance of youth. Our club sadly has been ciminally negligent over the years and my reasoning for this is quite simply how come Airdrie Utd have managed to recognise this whenn the arse was hanging oot their trousers but when we are struggling youth is always the first to go. And by all accounts the boy Watt is not the only gem that they have. My main hope is that no matter what direction the club move in the years ahead we dont make the same mistake again because who knows there might be a couple of gems waiting who whilst bringing something to the team in their early years might also bring valuable funding that allows the club to function.
  24. Lovely reading along the scrollbar of sky sports could not happen to a nicer club. G.I.R.U.Y ha ha
