  1. Also something that I've noticed in recent weeks. Not everyone going into the NS is been searched, the stewards seem to ignore the older supporters. However this is topical as at a time that the Police Scotland stop and search policy has come under criticism in the media and is being considered by the Scottish Government we now have fans being frisked at Firhill. A statement from the club would be welcome...
  2. The team put in a shift, I don't often feel comfortable watching Thistle even when they are 2-0 up but today there was only one winner, Stevie Lawless chased everything but strong performances all round. Just one negative when play was stopped (Thistle had the possession) as a St J player took a head-knock, play resumed and they didn't return the ball, shame on them.
  3. Is their manager Jackie Montserratnamara?
  4. perhaps we talk about the sevco 2012 fiasco because when you tune into the BBC Scot 6 o'clock footie programme you get a minimum half an hour of discussion every night on so it's hard to avoid. In any case it is the gift that keeps on giving. No-one picked up bilko's comment about Cosgrove being a "Rangers hater"......I'd contest that Cosgrove is an intelligent guy with well-reasoned arguments and is spot on his assessment of events in Govan. I'm sure that his Catholic upbringing and support for independence are incidental in the minds of 'gers fans...... As for the other cheek, isn't in refreshing to see Lawwell distance sellick from Irish Republicanism, you can hear the sound of cages being rattled in the east end...
  5. What I found worrying was not the Thistle fans with yes badges but the demonstration in George Square after the referendum (the young girl getting the Saltire ripped from her hands) and the arson attack on the Herald building. The supporters of sevco2012 and sellick have an unhealthy tribal obsession with their own particular interpretation of Irish independence. There were strong arguments pro/anti independence but I hoped that a "yes" vote might have concentrated minds on trying to get this country to work for everyone and it might follow that supporters of the 2 erse cheeks would focus on matters closer to hand and over time lose the fixation with all the historical nonsense. I'm also for ditching the feck yer P&Q song, much as I used to love belting it out it has to be confined to room 101.
  6. Went up to Dens the other week and won't make this one. Anyone getting the train from Queen Street should remember to purchase a return to Perth and a return Perth to Dundee. That way you save about £13.
  7. As said above, we made a poor County team look good. Last week I was thinking that I really dreaded a play-off against sevco, for both the on and the off the park aspects and that Hibs wouldn't be a Sunday stroll either, That lame performance suggests the team would crumble under the pressure of a play-off.
  8. Hartley's half-time subs helped turn I for the Dee... he replaces the left back (as we were getting into good positions down our right though McDaid and SOD struggled to cross the ball) and puts on Harkins who sets up the goal. Not too heavy on McDaid as he is a young lad and played well on Wednesday. As for SOD, it's as if he's just seeing out the games until the end of season. Just don't understand how Lawless and or Higgy didn't feature.
  9. I was in the north stand and I'm sure I heard one of our lads shouting "English b_____d" at an ICT player......Pathetic.
  10. ps the changes don't add up to much and it's already starting to degenerate into bickering between the parties. Nice timetable though.
  11. billi. I don't want to personalise this however you seem to be saying that because someone/their immediate family is not directly affected by government policy - on say the bedroom tax or disability allowance - then it is not their concern. I don't see that it follows that the contracts with other countries would have dried up following independence. To admit to never having voted is quite an admission. I was under the impression that the glorious campaigns were fought to defend democracy and the right to vote. The No side did have some valid points but it was too focussed on negativity, when that didn't work it called in it's powerful friends in the establishment to bully and threaten the population, sickening
  12. bill, with respect I suspect that your vote was secured before the questions were debated. Yeah, the establishment that came out the wood-work and the political elite are stuffed full with poppers...
  13. I'm not a kilt and caterpillar boots nationalist. The last Scotland game for me was 15+ years ago and I just didn't like the atmosphere, the "if you hate the effin English" chants are pathetic. My favourite bands are from Manchester and Liverpool, England has produced many of the world's best talents across the arts and more generally. We could have had a modern progressive Scotland that doesn't hark back to Bannockburn, a country where all people are welcome to live in. It wasn't about the SNP or Salmond.
  14. Feels like a new year hang-over and all the Thistle relegations rolled into one. Proud to be a Glaswegian this morning and hats off to the people in the former Labour strong-holds of Dundee, North Lanarkshire and West Dunbartonshire for having the balls to challenge the establishment. I suppose you have to credit Brown for rallying the forces of the No side. We can all get behind the team tonight, aye, mon the Higgy! We shall overcome one day.
  15. TDP, I agree with you on the economic uncertainties, despite being a "yes" I felt that there would be choppy economic waters ahead - in the medium term - but I felt that independence was viable and best in the long run. I'm not so sure about the blood shed point, World Wars 1 and 2 should never be forgotten but they were a long time ago. Sorry TDP but the British Empire is fast fading and it's track record, fighting fascism aside, isn't so glorious. Out of interest at what point would you consider Scotland to ready for independence?
  16. devil, with respect to your grandfather that was 75 years ago! If Scotland had been independent would it not have stood against the Nazis? Please vote yes, seize it with both hands, be brave.
