  1. Brill. It'll still make me ill at Firhill.
  2. It would actually be quite interesting to stop a random sample of people in the street, give them a blank outline of a footballer and some coloured crayons, and ask them to do a simple sketch of "a Partick Thistle player". My guess is that around 85% of people (or at least those who knew anything at all about football) would draw red and yellow hoops, maybe 10% (at most) would draw stripes, 1% the jester, and the rest some other random assortment of colours. It would then be interesting to break down the results into different age categories of people.
  3. That is true. In fact with KA in goal I used to feel that we had a good chance of coming out of a penalty against us without losing a goal. His handling of crosses also definitely improved in his last couple of seasons with us. A decent enough keeper, but behind Langfield, Tuffey and Fox in terms of all-round ability.
  4. There are a few keepers that make you think that it'll be really tough to score against them even when you get the chance. The fat, toothless H*n Goram was one of them, and it has to be said that more recently Rab Douglas is another (his brilliant saves against us at Dens recently reinforced that view). Would the prospect of Kenny Arthur lining up against Thistle cause the same feeling of trepidation? Err, nah.
  5. Yeah, unless it's an electronic gadget (and therefore expensive), or "educational" (and therefore expensive) "toy" shops don't seem very interested in toys these days. You could always whittle one by hand from a lump of wood....... Or throw in a stone and tell her it's the Titanic....
  6. Anything here?: http://shop.ebay.com.au/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m570.l1313&_nkw=toy+boat&_sacat=See-All-Categories
  7. Dramatic, right enough. I see the one of the couple lying in the road has been attracting media attention. Was it a kiss, or was he speaking to her closely in the midst of all the noise and turmoil, as she was actually injured? The truth will eventually emerge, I imagine. This Greek dog veteran protester/rioter gave me a laugh yesterday: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-13802940
  8. I think that's a tad negative. Thistle's red and yellow hoops are instantly recognisable across Scotland and probably even further afield, and that's been the case for decades. You're right about the relatively recent chopping and changing that has taken over in some way diluting the Thistle brand. Several of our more recent tops are easily forgotten, likely to be recognized by nobody who isn't a Thistle supporter. But as soon as it's a red and yellow hooped top, from the middle of the 20th century to one of its more recent versions, it immediately stands out as "Partick Thistle". I know that some people prefer stripes, but even those aren't as memorable (I actually hate the SPL one that we had last time around). Partick Thistle: Red and Yellow hoops, and thus it should always be! Still, even the Daleks are "being rested for now"....
  9. I wouldn't be surprised if the exciting signing that was Jim Hamilton actually contributed to a slump in season ticket sales...
  10. I'd forgotten all about him, and that.
  11. I'm genuinely perplexed........ Are you being serious? I love it! Couple of snippets: The lead singer is the late Carl Wayne (died a couple of years ago), who joined The Hollies (yes, The Hollies) on a tour around 10 years ago. And the wonderfully talented Roy Wood (founder of The Move, Wizzard, ELO) is a guest (along with Kim Wilde ) on the next Status Quo tour. Jaggernaut: the No.1 source for news of music of today!
  12. Congratulations. What is the "conditional" part. Adequate funding?
  13. Sigesige, I'll be in Japan in a couple of weeks. PM me soon if you want anything from Greaves.
  14. Tough, but it gets things up and running right away. Come through those openers with three victories and that will sent a clear message to everyone that we're no longer messing around on a 3-, 4-, 5+-year plan. The time has come!
  15. I couldnae go beyond 20 seconds.
  16. You mean like birdie, albatross, etc.? Dunno, some people might flag it up as unacceptable.
  17. Treading on eggshells there......
  18. If they don't then somebody who bought a roll of PTFC tartan and got somebody to cut it up and stitch up scarves could make a tidy profit, I'd think.
  19. From the BBC: In fact, the most important part of Galton's work had nothing to do with eugenics, for he was one of the first to realise that science - biology as much as physics - needs maths rather than words. He was one of the founders of the science of statistics, and he measured many things. He made statistical inquiries into the efficacy of prayer - he got into trouble for that for he found that those people frequently prayed for, like monarchs, lived no longer than anyone else. He even made a beauty map of Britain, based on a secret grading of the local women on a scale from attractive to repulsive (the low point was in Aberdeen).
  20. Hang on, if these puns are good enough for Jackie.......
  21. Anybody at home. Get off to a flyer good start in the league, and more likely to get a decent away support on the opening day.
