I thought Black Swan had a breathtaking last half hour and by the end I was almost greetin like a west end luvvie. The King's Speech on the other hand, is a gentle wee film that titters at the Royals saying naughty words and generally tugs a forelock all through the 90 minutes. It was OK, but not a best picture and tbh not one for a rabid republican like myself. Did nothing to disabuse me of the notion that the Royals are a bunch of inbred bawbags, but if you think the opposite you will no doubt love it. Well for a rabid republican like me, I thought it was a decent and enjoyable movie. Best Picture? I just don't know, but decent enough. Funnily enough I felt it bordered on the pro-republican bias as a subtle sub-text. Either Toy Story 3 or Inception I thought would have been better, and longer lasting, Best Picture candidates. Colin Firth just can't hold a candle to Ronnie Barker and whose daft idea was it to cast Helena Bonham Carter as Nurse Gladys Emmanuel? The world's gone mad!
