Why are SFL matches not shown on TV? its constant SPL, Rangers, Celtic, Hearts etc on BBC or STV, on Scotland today news its always SPL, never SFL, its very annoying, even English Championship league teams are talked about on itv SKY sports and matches get shown.

were you at the game on saturday? thats why, cause its pish. :lol:

Sad to admit, but you've got it spot on. The value of the SFL television rights are probably counted in pennies, and the interest somewhat close to zero.

And the only reason that the SPL are of value is primarily down to the overseas interest in, primarily, the Old Firm and, less significantly, the Edinburgh teams. Outwith of that, there are no games of great financial interest although they have to be lumped into the whole package. That's also the reason why the SPL are so wedded to four games a season.

SFL football is shown to some extent on BBC ALBA, the digital Gaelic-language channel, which is now available on Freeview channel 8. This means that, apart from the option of your telly, some SFL matches can be viewed on the BBC iPlayer. (In general, because the channel's budget only stretches to commissioning one production company to cover SFL football, you won't get the extensive roundup of highlights such as you get on other channels for the SPL.)

BBC ALBA is no longer the main sponsor of the Challenge Cup (hence the change of name), but it is still involved in that competition.

There are more details here, although the content is in Gaelic:

A useful glossary:

football = ball-coise

TV = TBh :P

BBC iPlayer = well, you've got the idea by now, I think.

You can apparently use the BBC Vocab switch to see English translations, if you really feel you need it. Alternatively, just watch a bit and pick up the football vocabulary as you go along, or even enrol for Gaelic classes if you're keen.
