peagreenboy
"The Scottish Professional Football League has revealed the names of its league competitions. The new top-flight will be called the Scottish Premiership, with the old First Division renamed the Scottish Championship. Divisions Two and Three will now be known as Scottish League One and Scottish League Two. "A mountain of work has been done over the summer to get to this point and I believe there is much more that can be done," said SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster. "The new league set-up reflects very much the recommendations Henry McLeish made in his report for the future of Scottish football." " Exciting! Obviously straight up copying the English league names will bring us heaps of success. Never really understood why 'Divisions 1, 2, 3' are so unappealing. Still, will this mean we get to keep the trophy now?

Duke Gekantawa
The reason for the title "The Championship" in England was a (rather sad and ludicrous) attempt by The Football League to "big-up" its top division; the Premier League and Football League being different bodies. To do the same in a unified league is simply baffling.
scottymagoo
Copying the English system makes sense as it’s now a very well known format worldwide. Reverting to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th division is outdated and would cause confusion as people now associate the numbering with the lower tiers. The Sunnylaw Jag
We actually had the Premier long before those Premiership haddies came along. I think we should have names for the bottom two leagues like Duff and Duffer or God Forbid we ever end up there league.

When the SPL’s accounts revealed a six per cent fall in total income from £22.7 million to £21.4 million, his salary rose from £172,000 to £200,000 / year. You can bet your life as head of the new SPFL, his salary will be even higher. The papers did mishear Cockwomble right enough ..... what he actually said was : "A mountain of 5 course meals and expensive wines and spirits have been consumed over the summer to get to this point and I believe there is much more that can be downed." Noel Edmonds
The most boring and tiresome thing is the predictable negativity of fans who choose to criticise things as trivial as the league names, ignorant to the actual substance of the merger itself. The merger is something everyone has been crying out for, and was at the top of the bill in the Henry McLeish report for how to improve the game in Scotland, and is something everyone should be viewing with positivity, certainly considering the old cluster**** of a set-up that the new SPFL is replacing. soulful_jag
I liked this bit of his quote, it makes him sound like the d*ck he clearly is: "To have clarity on the names of each division and to have a logo that demonstrates the passion, the excitement and the drama of Scottish football, I'm thrilled." So now the third tier of Scottish Football is League One, where is the clarity in that? How on earth can even such a pompous arse as Doncaster come out with this crap and say "I'm thrilled"? If people were contributing any criticism to the topic of the league merger besides trivial pish about league names then you might have a point. I'm sorry, you're not making any sense whatsoever. This topic specifically about the league names ... and most people are just joking about suggesting daft names instead. If you re-read your first post you were having a moan about people being negative ... do you want to talk about league reconstruction? Feel free to start another thread. Capital letters doesn't indicate raised emotion -- it can also be used to try to emphasize a point to the wilfully thick. Oh boy. Why should I be surprised that someone who names themselves Noel Edmunds and puts a photograph of said tw@t as his avatar just doesn't get it? Ach well, nevermind. If people were contributing any criticism to the topic of the league merger besides trivial pish about league names then you might have a point. Hopefully, my point on the Lowland League was not considered trivial. The pyramid was a key part of McLeish's proposals but vested interests could kill it off. The earlier point on the lack of a SPFL sponsor is certainly not trivial. I thought that Irn Bru would sponsor it but the Britvic deal may be a factor.
