The Sunnylaw Jag
Whilst posting another photo form the Glasgow City Council History site I noticed this wee gem. It's interesting how in over 50 years little has changed. Sorri if it's been posted before, still thought it was worth a view. BTW the site is quite interesting to peruse through. http://www.theglasgowstory.com/image.php?inum=TGSA00549&t=2&urltp=search.php%3Fstart%3D0%26end%3D20%26what%3D%26where%3D%7Cfirhill%26who%3D%26period%3D0%26collection%3D0%26search%3D99

Jaggernaut
The OH book tells us that we played 'tic at Firhill in April 1958, in front of a crowd of 26,000. I'm guessing the photo relates to that game. There are also a couple of other shots from around then of the crowd walking up to the stadium and waiting to get through the turnstiles; possibly the same match, but also possibly from the match against yon defunct club in early May. Hmm, wonder if we'll see any piggies on cuddies on Sunday, with a maximum possible attendance of around 10,000.

The terracing and shed have gone to be replaced by the JHS, North stand and (sadly) the bing.
Jaggernaut
Scroll down here to the black and white aerial photo of Firhill in the early/mid 1960s. Surely one of the best of Firhill when it was at its best (back when primitive was considered OK). http://www.stadiumguide.com/firhill/

Jaggernaut
When did the roof on the north end go? I think early 1968, after it got badly damaged in the January hurricane. This has probably been posted before, but this Jags fan's site has some great history about Firhill and the lead up to it: http://glasgowpunter.blogspot.co.uk/2013_04_01_archive.html BUT: Just discovered this. Look at the video clip.... Firhill in 1926/1927 !!: http://ssa.nls.uk/film/1390/74958911

Jaggernaut
Crackin' movies of Junior Cup Final and Replay at Firhill in 1925. The tunnel looks like a WWI trench! Crowds of 20,000 and 18,000, with guys watching for free from the canal bank (some things never change!). In the second Firhill clip (starting at around 5 min) there's great (maybe the only) footage of the old main stand before the current one got erected. http://ssa.nls.uk/film/0577?search_term=Firhill&search_join_type=AND&search_fuzzy=yes

Jaggernaut
The Scottish Screen Archive has 6 films that include shots of Firhill. Has anybody ever seen the one of Bertie Auld and Thistle from 1976? Also an interesting amateur one from 1965 about Thistle fans rushing to get to the game, but because Thistle were playing away on the day of the match they used Cathkin Park instead! http://ssa.nls.uk/search.cfm?search_term=Firhill&videos_only=&search_mode=Quick

The Jukebox Rebel
I'm in awe. The auld main stand looks splendid indeed, albeit the patrons of the 20s are blawin' puffs of smoke at ye left, right and centre...
Tob Jag
I also noticed a quick glimpse of the half-time scoreboard 'BEHIND THE WEE GOALS!'. . A,B,C,D,E, . .etc . .and then if I'm correct it was moved to being along front of wall of the 'Wee Goals'? Oh the olde days are but memories which we will have forever and let's hope we add a new fond memory this Sunday. . .
Jaggernaut
Does anybody know when the Shed got its roof? Wiki and other sources suggest around the mid 1950s. This photo of the Firhill exhibit shows the shed when it was getting built. http://www.ptfcnet.co.uk/gallery/index.php/Historic-Photos/ptfcgallery02 Incidentally, I saw this article from 2003 in the Herald, stating that the club had planning permisson for a 2,000-seater stand where the bing now is! I can't access the whole article. Could somebody kindly copy and paste it? http://www.heraldscotland.com/sport/spl/aberdeen/green-light-for-thistle-to-start-work-on-new-2000-seat-stand-1.115591
The Jukebox Rebel
You're no' missin' much Jaggernaut... "PARTICK THISTLE have been given the go-ahead to build a new 2000-seat stand at Firhill. Glasgow City Council have granted outline planning permission for the redevelopment of the south terracing. Thistle plan to erect a seated stand and want to offset costs by installing offices inside the structure and generating regular income by renting the space to potential tenants. Thistle cannot use the south terracing at this moment and the area was left empty during last season's Premierleague campaign. lFalkirk have released two different sets of season-ticket and walk-up prices for next term as the issue over their promotion to the Premierleague rumbles on. If the club fail in appealing the SPL's decision to deny them access to the top flight, the first division champions will play their games at Stenhousemuir's Ochilview when the new campaign gets underway with a home clash with Inverness Caley Thistle on August 9. However, if the SFA overturns the SPL's decision at the appeal hearing next Wednesday, John Hughes' side will ground-share with Airdrie United and kick-off the new season against Dundee at New Broomfield." The Jukebox Rebel
I've been reading the Evening Times online. The match report itself makes no reference to the shed. There is another article though, concerning fans in general where the tense suggests that the shed is indeed in place for the start of the season. In the Evening Times of 14th August 1954, Alan Breck reports : "Rangers, Partick Thistle and Third Lanark have provided covered spaces which will be greatly appreciated, but out to the country the bus and train loads will go to pay their money and get a soaking." This boy seems to be a supporters champion, good on him!

Thanks, TJR. It does show how fragile lots of plans can be. Back then it was to be a stand with interior offices to be rented out. Then it was to be flats with a tiny stand (if any)..... What next? Members Willjag
1970s IIRC. Pre October '71. It wasn't there when I was at my first Jags game against St. Johnstone, 16th October 1971.
