Very sad to hear the passing away of one of my first schoolboy crushes today; Alexandra Bastedo best known as Sharon McCready from the Champions at aged 67. I had mentioned in her an article for SITB #3. For those of a similar age who have not read the article and like to reminisce here it is below but it will make you feel old though.

You know you’re getting older when . . .

Your seat on the supporters bus is getting progressively nearer the front

When you can remember, when a player’s Dad played for the Jags

You can recall names of the ‘71 League cup winning team but can’t recall where you parked the car

You can’t wait til half time to pee and not because you’ve been in the pub before the game.

You can travel by public transport to away games cheaper than using the supporters bus.

You can remember the last time there was a decent pie served at Firhill

You have been to more than ten grounds in Scotland that no longer exist.

You can remember Scotland getting to the World Cup Finals.

You had a perm in the 70’s.

You can remember when Scotland only had two divisions.

You remember Alpine ginger and thought it was the bee’s knees

You use terms like bee’s knees

The strip you wore as a boy is now retro.

You had a thing for Alexandra Bastedo in your schooldays.

You remember why you preferred Old Thistle over Auld Thistle

You’re quite happy to sing Maryhill is Wonderful but too embarrassed to sing Mary fae Maryhill.

You remember getting lifted over the turnstile as a kid ( and are glad you don’t have to lift over some of the fat kids going about now.)

You can recall the smell of the foundry as you came down from Panmure Street

When someone posts an old photo of Firhill and you’re in it.

When you were the legal age to drink out of a beer can with Alan Rough’s wife on it.

When the forum becomes more addictive than porn.

When you refer to a throw-in as a shy

^^^she was a doll.

doesn't warrant a thread of its own, but stumbled across this earlier today.

a 85 year old known as the queen of burlesque who had flings with jfk and elvis, who has been a burlesque dancer stripping off for over 60 years and is still doing it (to huge crowds) and whose assets (44dd) are insured for $1m.

Hampden, Ibrox and Parkhead bear no resemblance to the grounds that we visited prior to 1980. All-seater stadia tend to lack lack the atmosphere of their predecessors, our beloved Firhill included.

These are the English grounds that I have visited but no longer exist

Old Wembley

Highbury, Arsenal

Maine Road, Manchester City

Roker Park, Sunderland

The Dell, Southampton

Victoria Ground, Stoke City

Vetch Field, Swansea City

Ninian Park, Cardiff City

Baseball Ground, Derby County

Ayresome Park, Middlesborough

Burnden Park, Bolton Wanderers

Goldstone Ground, Brighton & Hove Albion

Highfield Road, Coventry

Plough Lane, Wimbledon

ETA - Due to the Taylor report, the other EPL grounds have been re-developed, e.g. new stands, since the 1980s.

More than ten grounds - got to nine -

St Mirren Park

Kilbowie

Boghead

Annfield

Brockville

Bayview

Broomfield

Douglas Park

Muirton

Been to others that still exist - Raydale, Shawfield and Meadowbank.

If I included Junior and English grounds I could easily knock up a good few more.

I was using poetic licence saying ten or more although Cathkin would be included in the ten; Shawfield is dead to football though. I noticed that some genius in Sick in The Basin wrote his own wee personal journey of these grounds in the latest issue :happy2:

Ending a sentence with a preposition is something up with which I will not put! :D

Can't believe I forgot I had included Firs Park in the more than ten. Surely you went there Charlie. Some nice shots of it before it's destruction here.

So sad to hear of the death of the blonde goddess.....she was a choice piece of ass. They used to do pics of delicious ladies in the Daily Record in the late 60's and early 70's before topless models....they would pose sitting with their mini skirts no shoes etc...there was one of her and when I was a little boy I was smitten with her....had a fetish for American Tan tights ever since! And what a great name she had too. RIP Alexandra.
