  1. This is an excellent decision with regards to the great man. I am not the only person wondering , when will the club also do something in lasting tribute to Partick Thistle’s greatest ever servant - Davie McParland.
  2. How did you guess that! The legendary Ma Ba , taken from Alan Breck’s Book of Scottish Football 1937, so aged @ 19 at the time.
  3. Anyone wanting to know , just google "Firhill Developments Limited" and "Envision Firhill" .
  4. Distressing revelation by Sandy - Chris Erskine was actually kidnapped by McNamara. Was there a ransom note?
  5. Exactly what is his injury , and is he out for the rest of the season?
  6. Ian Archer famously and perfectly described Denis as "Johan Cruyff - without a compass".

Never forget his shameful role in relegating us - this is wonderful justice.
  8. Every now and again we get these tiresome posts from "supporters" who question whether Thistle should be in the SPL. A club of our size should play in the top division. Obviously. If you like watching lower league football, away and follow East Stirlingshire.
  9. Just over two weeks ago we were down to 10 men and one goal away from going ELEVEN points behind Morton.
  10. This disastrous episode was made worse by the complete lack of any apology by that board for it's mistakes. Indeed Mr. Cowan and the rest seemed smugly proud of their actions. The vision this particular chairman had for Firhill was as a two-sided stadium - one result being the three major dramatic moments yesterday (the sending-off goal and penalty) being broadcast to viewers to a back-drop of a hideous, scruffy, grass bank. Along with an apparantly abandoned Main Stand , this is the face of Firhill presented on tv to the public. On the subject matter of The Cowan Bing, was there mention in a thread some weeks ago of the club considering some temporary improvement to this eyesore? Even from a pragmatic point of view something like a high fence for adverts or banners would make a little difference.
  11. Don't know if anyone has suggested this before, but keeping in mind the poor bar/facilities near to Livingston's stadium, is there not an opening for the club to provide hospitality/supporter facilities for Thistle fans at Firhill on cup final day, say between midday and 2.45pm, with buses to make the fairly short 45/50 minute journey to the ground? There are a variety of possibilities, with the Alan Rough Lounge & Aitken Suite available, + other areas at Firhill to be used as a "Fan-zone", with all supporters buses encouraged as a "one-off" for this game to leave from Firhill. At the very least there is a possible bonus source of income here for the club. I have emailed Ian Maxwell. Thoughts?
  12. Full credit to the club for trying ideas like this out. This one however doesn't work, irritates and does not help the atmosphere. Drop it, please.
  13. And Dixie wins it. Your question!
  14. Thought of him, but he never played for Celtic first team. One left, easy. first to name is next up.
  15. Yep. Three left, all easy for older fans!!
  16. Good try. I did not include Johnny Buckley, as I saw him as a winger. Four left to identify.
  17. Name ELEVEN centre forwards/strikers who have played for Thistle AND Celtic in the last 50 years. Must have played in first team for both. I haven't eg included Ronnie Glavin who actually played as a "striker" occasionally. There may be players I haven't thought of , but I have eleven definites. No catches, anyone who suggests Frank McAvennie goes straight to the back of the class,
  18. Away to Berwick Rangers, League Cup. Thistle ran out in new away strip , blue and white stripes, which the club hadn't told anyone about (marketing brilliance). Thistle fans thought they were Berwick, promptly booed them. We won 7-1 I recall.
  19. It's so many years now since we beat one of the Old Firm, and I want my son to experience the unbridled joy of stuffing one or the other. Nothing we do in this useless backwater of a league can remotely reach that feeling. The SPL with all it's faults is the top league in Scottish football, and any Thistle fan with half a brain surely wants us back where we belong, taking on these people and giving us the chance for a bit of real glory. We can take some heart that we now have a Chairman who at least talks of playing a pro-active part in pushing for league re-organisation, as in particular the ludicrous "one up/down" system between the leagues plays no small part in keeping us down in this financial hell-hole. I hope he is true to his word
  20. Andy Anderson. His outstanding talent is a secret known only to 70s Thistle fans.
  21. Can I just say that this slugfest between sanctimonious luvvies and working class pissheads - a kind of postcode war, G61 v G20 - is top entertainment. Carry on.
  22. The Board has repeatedly given a clear commitment to Firhill, on the the long term at least, returning to normality as a four-sided stadium. They did so in writing,at the AGM at which I was present, and in one-to-one conversations. This most fundamental of issues raises a serious question about the good faith of the Board, and supporters' trust in them. Indeed I strongly suspect that the disgraceful "U-turn" on this matter in Mr.Cowan's flippant progamme notes of 11 September, proved to be calamitous for both the club and Mr.Cowan's standing. It was certainly the last straw for me. As a result there's now the perception that the club, at best, doesn't know what it's exact plans for our once great stadium are. We really must have clarity on the matter. No ambiguity. And some honesty - I don't like being lied to.
  23. We already have the magnificent Jackie Husband Stand, and surely at some stage in the future part of Firhill will be named after the greatest ever Jag, Davie McParland. However, what of our now departed Leader - what is there at this once great stadium that will remind us of everything he fought & stood for? The answer will stare at us every time we arrive & take our seats in the Jackie Husband...just take a glance to your left and remind yourself - THIS is what he was all about, his crowning glory.......THE COWAN MOUND. Should there not be a commemorative plaque at the Firhill Road turnstiles?
  24. There are two separate but related matters from Mr.Cowan's remarks in Saturday's programme: This Board are now committed to the destruction of Firhill as a stadium of any merit. Apart possibly from the bizarre Braga in Portugal, I know of no half-decent stadium anywhere in the world that is not four-sided.Half a brain tells you that. Which is why this Board, and Mr.Cowan in particular, beyond any doubt whatsoever gave supporters repeated promises,100% assurances, commitments, call it what you like, that the ground "development" would entail at the very least the potential at some stage for spectators on all four sides. This was done in writing, in press releases, and verbally. Which brings us to the the second point, which is the utterly disgraceful way this U-turn on the most crucial of issues has come about. Without any warning or consultation, two days after the Jags Trust meeting at which a director was present and said nothing, and on the eve of planning permission being decided, Mr.Cowan glibly sneaks in the decision of no spectators ever at the South end. And this in the match programme which not everyone reads. If this is what was in Mr.Cowan's mind all along, then we have been strung along with promises that were never going to be kept. Sadly, all this now calls into question not only Mr.Cowan's judgement, but also his integrity - which until I read Saturday's programme I had always accepted. I no longer have faith or sufficient trust in Mr.Cowan.It's time for him to step aside.
