  1. Remember there is nothing mightier than the crayon!
  2. Think you'll be safe. Quite a few Irish bars sport prints of the New York Rangers who play in the old R, W & B... Just a sports thing with NYR being the main NY team of choice. A few former work colleagues were horrified when they were over for the annual St Patrick's parade. One of them complained and was told to "get a life!" Maybe our American cousins are enlightened after all!
  3. I thought that on the few occasions we went at Aberdeen with ball at feet through the middle we caused them problems. I think every teak expects us to attack dow the flanks at speed. Why not mix it up a wee bit? ATS had a good second half and was roaming to push us up the pitch. Not all doom and gloom. Sh*** crowd though - more Dons fans than Jags fans? (I've not checked the attendances thread!)
  4. I had 90-mins of this from Angry Gaz... For once, I think I agree with him! I think there was a collective feeling that Aberdeen had our number and would take a few goals off us. In truth, we competed well for much of this game and the new shape seemed reasonably secure. My take on the transfer window is that we can look but can't afford to buy. Are there no English loan deals out there; or is that just desperation?
  5. Thanks for the post, have posted on the other thread.
  6. Thanks for the post. I was down to go to this tonight with another mate on the forum but called off with a heavy cold. My son was in the pub with Missing Words and both got out okay. My wife is away to pick my son up just now. Bit of a shocker... couldn't believe the "you'll never guess what's just happened" phone call! I hope no one is seriously injured and my thoughts are with those who've been injured.
  7. I join this late and confess to not having read all of the posts. But as a silly aside, it would be nice to know how much money will be ring-fenced for social services. Way I see it, an independent Scotland will need to find money to re-shape the country and this won't be found overnight. We can talk about oil wealth but how accessible is this i.e. when will it flow into Scotland? So does this mean that we borrow heavily until the fiscal ties are established and a deal with Westminster is struck? Presumably we will keep the likes of Faslane, swear allegiance to the Crown and then get some kind of payment for the risk involved i.e. annihilation. In return, will HM get to keep Balmoral and Holyrood or will they become government residences like Chequers; is that hidden away in the WP? So many questions but my prime concerns remains dealing with the zombies who are parading about our streets. Independence will not solve unemployment and our drink and drug culture overnight; or will it? Indeed, does anyone believe that the vote will actually be in favour of independence? Sorry to appear so cynical but if this change does or doesn't happen, I see no bright new tomorrow.
  8. Pretty sure we watched this before the candy Crush habit had formed. WTF is all that about? But the Danish language version is good telly. To keep this going a wee bit and as I need convincing: Is the American version of House of cards any good? A mate tells me Kevin Spacey is back to his best in this one. Anyone?
  9. Episode 3, 1st series and I've found it slow; but maybe building characters etc. Everyone I know says to stick with it so i'll give it a go. My guilty sin remains BBC foreign stuff on a Saturday night - Spiral, Wallander, Borgen etc. maybe not Montalbano but ok if in the right mood i.e. we've won or picked up a point.
  10. Mrs MJ is a huge fan of Dexter and I've been forced to watch it all in boxed-set format; some of it was actually quite good, some not so good. Johnny Lee Miller was great (Trainspotting and Elementary guy) as a motivational speaker bad guy as was the 'Trinity Killer' played by john Lithgow. In fact, just paid £25.00 for the final season on Amazon (and the spoiler alert is that it's sh***! But I can stick it on and go to Firhill in peace in Sunday having dipped Mrs MJ's purse big time). Others we've enjoyed include first season of Breaking Bad (I've still to get hooked but will persevere!) and Luther (one of the better Brit shows?). Whitechapel was also quite good although some plot lines were bizarre and it definitely turned quite Gothic in the last season. Like others, I always looked upon boxed sets as dodgy Christmas presents i.e. "it's on offer and we know he sometimes laughs at the Simpsons; so it will match the mug and socks!" But not so, a great way to get into a show and watch characters and plots develop. i'm now a convert... Talking of which, is it worth sticking with Breaking Bad - is it seriously THAT good? What about 24? (Have to confess that I've never watched an episode.)
  11. Was wondering why he was in Glasgow; this explains it. I'm on loads of distribution lists for publications of a certain left-leaning persuasion, and not a toot about this from any of them. Probably because they didn't arrange it; which sums up the fragmentation of left wing politics in Scotland. Also thought that the friend of the forum, Troy De Nero (real guy, superb recording artist with a cult following growing by the day) might have heard about this and been in touch. But naw; too busy writing his Christmas single: "All I want for Christmas is a pair of Archie's underpants." Although to be fair, his song, or maybe it was a line from a song "the Maryhill rain can't take away my pain" still leaves me with goosebumps when walking down the aforementioned road when we've just been stuffed. It persists and we're getting old but still making the journey to the shrine. I might kid the guy on, but in years to come he'll be discovered... Glasgow's own Nick Drake; or even Charlie Drake!
  12. MW, think Danny and a few of the Renfrewshire boys are coming up for this one; then moving on to the Afro-Caribbean Centre. If anyone fancies something different; this place is different! (Cryptic as f*** but wouldn't want to spoil it for anyone.) Will be in touch...
  13. Nice one, rarely see him these days as I think he takes his son to the JHS. Out of interest and I probably already know the answer as he's a creature of habit, is Wee Bill going? That would be a sight, wee happy face dancing away down the front with pockets bulging with loose change. I'd even make sure that our mob all bought him a pint each; just to experience the happy glow!
  14. Commented above re numbers our end. Will text you to confirm. Are there any other Esperanza dates lined up?
  15. This looks like a great night, three great bands for the price of one. I'll text you with the Renfrewshire numbers; plus expect similar from the old South Side bus boys (some who may need help down the stairs with their zimmers! No names but you'll know who I mean). As I explained earlier, probably best to keep lists separate. (I take it someone has notified Mark W? I don't have contact details and not sure if he's on the forum. Probably is and is one of those who gives me pelters!)
  16. I think what you describe is a psychological state of enmity, the love of hating. The h*ns have all but disappeared and they’re struggling to cope. We all know that Celtic fans are the most politically correct fans in the world (whilst conveniently ignoring their sanctioning of sectarian violence and hatred of working class kids who join up and die serving their country). Find any number of worthwhile causes that aren’t British in name and they’ll back them. Apparently comes with the rebel gene and to get this you must support the hoops. To a lot of Celtic fans you’re either one thing or the other and a lot of Thistle fans are just h*ns who never made it to Ibrox for initiation. The old “couldn’t afford the bus fare” one-liner that we’ve all heard in the boozer. What utter sh***! The problem is and I’m sure that we’ve done this one to death on this forum, is that they are a symbolic enemy and one and the same beast; basically a mirror image with one needing to feed off the hatred of the other in order to survive. If you aren’t a Sevco fan, you apparently don’t have the right to challenge them.
  17. Shiels for me, never off the radio and comes across as the victimised man of the people. Other spend his dosh on sunbeds - shudder to think what hue of chestnut he is these days, what has Calderwood been up to? His name seems to get rolled out with every vacancy but never appointed.
  18. What, are you suggesting that Celtic's manger in waiting cannot instill discipline in his dressing room?
  19. Agree MW, Jaggernaut's link is worth the watch. Spot the typo that needs no correction!
  20. Great thread and if you think we're bad, take a wee trip to this forum. It's apparently all Sevco's fault as they run the show - masonic conspiracy coming out of Ibrox etc. You couldn't make it up unless you followed Celtic (in which case you'd be going to the European Court of Human Rights or starting a candlelight protest - followed by a dirty protest when you're told to behave). Good picture of the incident with the honest admission "we're f***ed"!
  21. MW hits the nail firmly on the head. Bearing in mind that this country was once called the “bread basket of Africa” and was a relatively peaceful country prior to Mugabe taking power, his electoral abuses in the 1980s (the UN even acknowledged he rigged the ballot) should have seen him removed from power. However, as he has friends in high places – brought up as a Jesuit and still taking communion (religion rears its ugly head!) – could it be that his form of rule is preferred by the West to whatever form of secular rule might take his place? Do I smell the USA, UK and the Vatican at play? But maybe I’m just trying to fathom out why, other than asking him to stop (!), the UN has been powerless to act. I'm all for the sharing of power and the removal of imperialist dominance in whatever form, but with Mugabe there is no democracy or freedom. The guy is a total c***!
  22. Gaz But some of us like silky skills, we are the poets. Where you use a hammer, we use pens. Think back to my artistry in the QP Pits and consider why it is called the beautiful game. Skill will always overcome brawn.
  23. Mr D, agree totally but the bit that got me was the use of the verb "pump"; definitely not the noun. My take on this might give my age away but back in my day this used to have certain sexual connotations; mostly relating to vigorous hard sex. Some on this forum may be better at explaining than me; but the good folk over at the Urban Dictionary (some who are no doubt Jags fans - even if they don't know it!) describe it as: I read the offending post and this was the suggestion that shocked me But maybe this wasn't what he meant and my sordid dirty mind was just working overtime. So apologies to all for any offence caused.
  24. That's two weeks on the trot he's picked up early bookings (seriously thought he'd walk today as some Celtic players seemed to go to ground too easily) and had to walk a thin line; or did he? Thundered into tackles and gave a really good account of himself. Nothing silly, doesn't appear to get involved in niggle and a 100% honest performer. A pleasure to watch in a Jags strip. I wonder what he's making of his time at the club? Anyone?
