  1. Aye we held on to him for a good few years but we did end up selling him to Hibs.
  2. Well we never transferred Donnie MacKinnon or Davie McParland but that was probably because they were both such faithful servants neither of them could ever wear any other jersey! :clapping:
  3. Donnie was, I believe, approached by Rangers but had already given his word to sign for Thistle and wouldn`t go back on his promise.
  4. Ronnie and Donnie are twins - not sure which of them is older but I think it MAY be Donnie if only by a few minutes!
  5. Yes it was against Man Utd on Guy Fawkes night 1973. If you google image his name you will see some match programmes are still available and there`s also a newspaper report of the game itself. Donnie sent me a couple of programmes at the time - I wouldn`t give them away for all the world. Well, maybe that`s a slight exaggeration!!
  6. Yes, that was his one and only goal for us. Played `only` 321 first team games as he was quite injury prone as a result of which he developed an interest in taking up physiotherapy as a career and served club and country in that capacity for a good number of years.
  7. A very happy birthday to my boyhood hero and Thistle legend, Donnie MacKinnon - 74 years young today!
  8. The answer to Mr Reid`s brainteaser is Maurice Johnston (117) and Kenny McDowall (91). Gerry Doyle with 68 appearances surely also deserves to be mentioned.
  9. Having gone to school for a year in Lewis Donnie`s writing was usually much clearer than that! My guess is Davie McParland.
  10. My boyhood hero, Donnie MacKinnon, was one of the Scotland physios at the 1978 World Cup and may have been at another one as well.
  11. Glad we agree! As I said it`s the team list on page 142 I checked and it gives the line up as in the picture. Cheers!
  12. Sorry but according to the Official History (page 142) McFedries did play with the other ten players mentioned in the pre-season friendly game against Airdrie on 5th August 1966!
  13. He may have been a nice guy but be very glad you don`t remember him playing as he appeared three times for us in 1966-67 and conceded 16 goals! Two away league games against Celtic (2-6) and Motherwell (0-5) as well as a pre-season friendly against Airdrie (2-5)!
  14. Let`s be positive - it`s a great opportunity for sweet revenge!
  15. I missed Colin Fleming`s article on his kinda Thistle team in the Daily Record a few weeks ago and wonder if anyone can provide a link or at least tell me the team he picked. Thanks.
  16. I grew up in the village of Carloway in Lewis in the 60`s and twin brothers whose mum came from the village and who had themselves played for the local team were making a name for themselves as professional footballers at that time. One was Ronnie McKinnon then of Rangers - the other was none other than Donnie - a true Thistle legend! You can guess who most villagers supported but (proud as I am of Ronnie representing our village at Wembley `67 !) I contacted Thistle-itis then and have happily suffered from the condition ever since.
  17. Fully agree! Having moved north recently I went along tonight with a couple of County supporting friends and had to admit on the way home that my team just never turned up!!!!!
  18. Dan McLindon, Sir Dick Staite, Hugh Tinney, Andy Roxburgh, Tommy Gibb, Neil Duffy, Jim Fleming, Ian Cowan, Tommy Ewing, Tommy Rae, Billy Cunningham, Billy Hainey, Arthur Duncan, Johnny Flanagan
  19. According to the club website it`s the 1971 squad who were honoured not just the cup final team.
  20. My understanding is that everyone (such as Donnie) who played even one game in the competition was inducted as part of the squad but I`m sure someone can verify whether I`m right or wrong!
  21. Donnie is in as a member of the League Cup winning squad but should certainly be in on his own personal merits and I have written to the club to explain why
