  1. Or crapping on your napper.
  2. No one here is suggesting we "be routinely winning away fixtures such as yesterday" LIB.
  3. I agree, Vinnyjag, that some perspective is needed, and that a cautious approach for the starting line up might be justified, but to leave it so late after going one down so early in the game seems perverse.
  4. Why was Doolan - our top goalscorer and biggest threat - not brought on before the last 7 mins? Is he not fit or is he carrying an injury? The team is better than to play 80 mins with the prime objective of not losing goals and containing the opposition - especially when you go a goal down after 25 mins. I agree wholeheartedly with Weebaw1.
  5. That game was so crap that the guys around me were betting on which pile of coal the crane would pick up from next. Throughout the game, AA had to tell Branigan what to do and where to stand. I worked beside a great guy called George Anderson who played for East Fife when they won the Scottish Cup back in the 1930's.
  6. County and test cricket grounds in England and elsewhere have a large machine called a CMS Blotter. It's a machine that is driven around the outfield after rain to soak up excess water. The company advertises them for football pitches - and mention reducing the risk of cancelled games. It is 3m wide and removes up to 4000 gallons per hour. Worth looking at don't you think?
  7. Unless Archie takes a punt on a more attacking line up very soon, there will be a strong temptation for him to adopt an even more negative approach as the relegation battle tightens. It's time for some courage to be shown. If we go down by failing to score enough goals it will haunt the Club for some time, and given the attacking options now available after signing Nesbitt and German, it would be criminal.
  8. Wasn't at the game and didn't learn much from the TV "highlights". Last year, Archie made the same mistake against Inverness at Firhill in the Cup. He started with no strikers, lost the game and later apologised for his tem selection. He does seem prone to odd selections, and I agree with other posters that we should have been setting the agenda for this game, not allowing DU to do it.
  9. Seems a great guy. Watched him play right back for Falkirk when we were in the tent at the new ground. He was beaten for pace every time, and every time he knew it and had a big grin on his face. At the same game, the guy next to me complained to the polis walking round the pitch that the previous week he had paid 15 euros to watch a game in the San Ciro, and had just paid £20 to sit in a tent in Falkirk.
  10. Happy New Year, and let's hope that it brings good fortune to the Club, that the team's form continues to inspire, and that this forum remains the gem that it is.
  11. Many years ago, a pal from Bonar Bridge phoned Ross County to check the kick-off time for a 2nd or 3rd January fixture at Dingwall against Thistle. The phone rang for ages before the guy answered and then asked if we could make it for 3 o'clock.
  12. BBC reports that none other than Willie Collum has been chosen to referee at next year's European Championships. Report included an interview with him which did nothing to dispel my low opinion of him. There must be someone better.
  13. Been watching Thistle since 1977, and the choice of favourite player is really difficult. In a way you want your favourite to reflect the character of the fans and the club, in which case I would go for Chic Charnley - brilliant and crap in the space of 45 minutes (sometimes less). But for sheer football talent I go for Scott Patterson - rarely made a mistake and his distribution was sublime.
  14. What a great way to start my week and a great way to start your hopefully long and happy retirement.
  15. Would that be something to with the tenants at Ibrox?
  16. Pies unsold at Premiership games are sold to Championship clubs for the following week, and what is not consumed then is sold to 1st division clubs and so on. The lower attendances in the lower leagues has little to do with the quality of the football, and much to do with the quality of the pies.
  17. Being "debt free" as per the club's statement means that the investment is via shares not loans. People invest in football clubs for altruistic reasons, and do not expect any significant return on their investment - I cannot believe this is any different. Therefore the savings in servicing the bank overdraft/loan is unlikely to be offset to any extent by increased dividends paid to new shareholders. That is the (continuing) benefit to the club.
  18. What you highlight is not conjecture BB.
  19. Very little conjecture BB, only that of the marketing post.
  20. For heaven's sake, why not just accept the statement at face value. The investment seems to be in return for shares, and if the investor is "Thistle minded", then, like all other football club investors they will not expect any return on their investment. Consequently the new money will probably trim £50-60,000 off the annual costs from bank interest savings. Perhaps the recruitment of a marketeer is one way the Board is investing that saving.
  21. I presume every player is subjected to a colour blindness test before signing. If not, it explains a lot.
