  1. but did you want another striker ahead of strengthening the defence? I'd have been alarmed if we'd brought in another forward before signing a left back and before bringing back Balatoni. And that's more or less where we were led to believe the budget ran out. It now appears cash is still available for Gallagher and Johnny Stewart (loan) plus maybe Gaston and/or Boyle. If whatever is left in the kitty is enough for a decent striker then maybe McNamara would be better going down that path. Somehow tho' I doubt we've the dosh to sign anyone better than what we have. Anyway surely nobody can say we need another striker when we've already got five (plus McGrotty & Donnelly) on our books already? I can readily accept the argument that we're short of quality but not quantity.
  2. Not even advertised on their official website Last Match 13/07-Melbourne Victory....Next Match 20/7-Cardiff City
  3. I felt it was a good work out. Motherwell are only ten days away from the start of their league so I'd expect they're a bit ahead of us in pre-season preparation. What we really need is to get our full backs overlapping to give us a bit of width in attack. No reason to believe we won't be able to do that in our division but can see why we didn't against an SPL side. Don't feel so concerned about right back cover after seeing Campbell last night. His positioning still seems a bit eccentric at times but I don't see many if any left sided attackers running him ragged. Incidentally that's 3x 90mins Campbell has put in so hopefully Paton is fit enough to put an hour in on Saturday.
  4. As a 'Well player he opened a wee gate in the stand and gave himself an extra run up. Don't know if he did that with Jags at anytime .
  5. I've always thought Kyle Lochhead could play the Rowson role if called on. Rowser is rarely injured and his fitness never a problem so I'd hope there's some versatility about Johnny Stewart. Otherwise the guy could spend much of his loan spell at best on the bench and I can't see why Hearts would send a lad out on loan if he doesn't get played much. Also has someone moved the goalposts re our budget? Seemed last week that we were at best one loanee and one signing away from max and even then we were short on Balatoni. Somehow we've come up with extra finance to get Conrad back and are still looking to strengthen with another loan player plus trialing Gallagher & Boyle. Starting to look like a not bad squad at all
  6. Looks like the Stewart fella is the one who was on loan to Dundee for the 2nd part of the season more HERE I was at the 0-0 game in March against Dundee and altho' he played that day I can't mind him.
  7. Took great exception to this post last night but I was too drunk to type a reply.
  8. I think one of the Gabors played for us in the early sixties. Going by what McNamara is saying in the match preview we're also hoping to take Jonathan Stewart on loan from Hearts and are still assessing Gallagher & Boyle (he took a knock that's why he didn't feature at Grangemouth). Anyone know much about the lad from Hearts?
  9. ...and I apologise. I can assure you that I will now be averse to doing anything similar in case someone lodges a complaint.
  10. I can understand those folks on here who are annoyed, irate even, about the association between PTFC/Greaves and the Pamplona Bull Run. I can respect their opinions even if I don't agree. I think tho' that having a go at Gus just now rather unfair. The guy posts on here but is clearly on holiday and probably not in a position to reply. I'll repeat that I don't believe the bloke is a particularly excessive drinker (on match days anyway) and you're painting a stereotypical picture of him that's possibly inaccurate.
  11. Well I'm offski for a couple of pints of Timmy Taylors.
  12. As with any "new" policing force they'll have to find ways of justifying their existence. That wouldn't be so bad if they would get tore into the serial offenders but as we all know there's safety in numbers. In fact having this designated polis could take the onus off the ugly sisters. They could argue how can they stop the bigoted singing etc when a special police force won't. I can see some unfortunate American artiste getting huckled at his Celtic Connections gig for signing some obscure Irish "rebel" song long before I can see mass arrests at Ibrox or Parkhead.
  13. ...and the quality of this thread has hit an all time low. All this talk of fish gut is just scraping the bottom of the barrel.
  14. I don't think that's what he was saying. I'm fairly sure that isinglass is used as fining in table wine and most certainly in many beers. Isinglass being a by product of fish gut.
  15. Well four of my five votes count I suppose. I am tho' rather embarrassed not realising Dougie Somner was already honoured.
  16. I might be mistaken but I don't think Gus is an exceptionally heavy drinker.
  17. John Harvey true legend and decent publican as well
  18. Well that nearly had me reaching for the report button. Personally I think the use of that word should have no place on a Jags forum. Perhaps you think it's above board to associate bears with stupidity, eagles as ultra nationalistic right of centre bores and worse of all pigs as sexually frustrated deviants with a carnal penchant for amphibians. In short I find the use of that word degrading to the animals in question and in itself a form of mental cruelty
  19. The deal's not in the hands of Jeffries tho'. Looks like the Madman may have a say or he'll delegate to one of his disciples.
  20. Probably right sided at that. Even then we could still be a bit of a liability over on the left. Lindsay is raw and, just going on the 75 mins I've seen of him, Sinclair may be more of an attacking full back than a last line defender. If Archie misses out on Wednesday night due to his knock or only plays a wee while I'd imagine we'll have a clearer idea about the level Lindsay and Sinclair are at just now. It would tho' throw up a bit of an imbalance if we had to get another left sided defender in.
  21. I did think from what I saw that he looked confident on the ball but again it was more of a get fit type friendly and maybe the lad wouldn't be so relaxed given his position in a real game. Even if he does look the part I'm not sure Jackie wouldn't still prefer Balatoni on loan. btw excellent use of the plural
  22. I think we should still bear in mind the poll is likely to be weighted towards relatively more recent Jags legends. Danny Lennon will certainly get one of my votes but even if he was to come out on top here and not get in this time round I'll understand why.
