  1. Looks like there is some deep psychology at play here! I think we should go for Red and Yellow but with bums on seats!
  2. At times I don't know what to make of this Jags Team or in fact this League. There are so many permutations that could result in so many different outcomes For example, should results go one way we could be a point or two ahead of Falkirk after 18 games. If they go the other way we could be 10 points adrift! I think we need 6 points from our remaining two game to have any chance of being top after 18 games and a minimum of 4 points to stay in touch. I think we can and will beat Montrose but the game I worry about is away to Dunbarton, for two teasons: 1. We will be expected to win this must win game. 2. We never do well away to Dumbarton! The answer go one game at a time!

  4. I wouldn't worry too much about being wrong. I am in a similar situation with Cardle. While his final ball hasn't been great he was trying to attack the left side of the Clyde defence and was much more involved and direct than I have seen in the past. So have to admit I am starting to change my opinion of Cardle............just that final pass/cross to improve and I am a Cardle fan!
  5. The reconstruction proposal is now referred to in today's BBC Scottish Football site in the Scottish Football 'Gossip' Section. Go to this section and scroll down to Newspaper Headlines bit. You will see a headline which states that SPFL Clubs) meaning PL clubs) are set to reject the proposal. I still don't see the article I read the other day but this reference will confirm that discussions have been taking place.
  6. I think (hope) we will play better against Montrose. They are a better side than Clyde and will attack us and try to win the game. That will create openings for us to attack. It should be to our advantage that Montrose concede almost as many goals as they score! Clyde tended to 'sit in' tonight and tried to frustrate us. For a number of reasons I think we tend to struggle against teams who get everybody behind the ball. As Montrose are not assured of a top 5 place I hope they will come Firhill and try to attack us. Well done to the Jags on tonight's result and to Zak Rudden for his two goals. His confidence should be high now.
  7. Not much to enthuse about so far. Perhaps a Jags fan view but I didn't see a foul on the goalkeeper when he flapped at the ball under pressure! Seemed to me a 'normal' challenge!
  8. Because he has pace and has already proved himself in this League................. with Montrose. Time he proved himself with us!
  9. Do you mean you don't see this happening or you don't see the article! I assumed the latter and returned to the BBC website so that I could give you a Web address. Guess what I can't find it anywhere - it's disappeared! I can add to my previous comments by saying the proposal was being discussed by a what looked like a special SFA Board (which I assume included SPFL representatives). I can assure all members of wearethistle that I did read this and didn't make it up! Apologies if I have caused a storm in a tea cup.
  10. Reported in today's BBC website discussions are underway to: - reconstruct the leagues into a 12/12/10/10 format - there will be no relegation for a year from extended championship -2 Teams to be promoted from League 1 (to Championship) - Rangers and Celtic Colts will take up the two places that will become available in League 2 If this proposal gains support and is implemented next season the implications for the Jags seem to me to be that we must finish at least 2nd in the League and/or reach the play-off final in order to cover most possible outcomes. Not knowing how this will pan out and assuming the play-off matches will still go ahead these seem to me to be the default positions. Games v Clyde, Montrose and Dumbarton just became even more must win!
  11. If Clyde have been playing through a glut of fixtures and I must be honest and admit to not paying too much attention to them, them we must try and run them off their feet! The way to do that is to play at a high tempo, pass the ball forward quickly (not just hump high balls to Graham) and play Lyons and use his pace. In summary try to pass our way through the Clyde midfield and defence with precise and effective passing and good off the ball movement. Easy really, Man City do it every week even when they lose!
  12. That makes Falkirk league leaders after 18 games with 34 points. The maximum number of points we can reach is 33! Left to McLennan and Doncaster that's the play-off stage cancelled!! Sorry just being cynical and assuming we can even win 4 games in succession counting yesterday!
  13. We are now at the business end of the season! Of the top 4 teams we appear to have the 'easiest' fixtures with our main opponents all facing tricky games. Falkirk - Cove (A) Peterhead (A) Cove - Falkirk (H) Montrose (A) Jags - Clyde (H) Montrose (H) Dumbarton (A) Montrose - Jags (A) Cove (H) Potential for lots twists and turns in these fixtures. Our fixtures include two teams who are in 8th & 9th places in the table. My two main concerns are: - our home record - we are PTFC and always do it the hard way!!!
  14. Welcome back Bobby. I see on the Peterhead match thread you have, after a brief period of reflection, toned down your remarks about Rudden!
  15. Great result well done the Jags! I honestly didn't see this result coming away against a team whom we have always found difficult to beat! Big wheel coming up now! Win our game in hand and league table take on a totally different look! An observation we seem to be better creating chances, scoring goals and winning games when teams come at us! Not so good when we have to take the initiative and break them down - which I suspect will be required in our next game. Final comment for the weekend but should I change my opinion about Cardle! Have a good weekend to all jags where ever you are!
  16. Come on Dumbarton, Clyde and Airdrie - a late goal please!!!
  17. 5 subs. We keep our defence intact but replace our star midfield and attacking players - managing the game. Good to see!
  18. Well I have to admit I do get a lot wrong and just occasionally some things right! Thank you all for your compliments - now can we go on and win????????
  19. Time to admit I was wrong in my comment about a team being selected not to lose. Goals 26 & 27 from two of our 'attacking' players. Now can we just get the obligatory goal from Graham and go on and win the game!
  20. Gordon, Rudden and Lyons - I didn't say they were good option.
  21. Great - hadn't realised we had scored that many goals - 25 - this season! I like statistics so should pay more attention to them! Hope your right.... today
  22. This looks like a team selected not to lose the game rather than to go out to win. Any clues on how the team will line up as most of our attacking options appear to be on the bench.
  23. Well I think its a must win game................ because its a must win game! Seriously, I said this not just because every game now feels like a must win but also because I was harbouring some thoughts about actually winning the league. To achieve this we can't afford to drop any more points, therefore it is a must win! If we are saying we only need to make 4th Place then clearly it's not a must win.
  24. Another must win game. McCall, after a result, tends to talk in terms of not losing ground but fact is we are not making up ground (on Falkirk) either. My feeling is that Peterhead is a team we always seem to have problems beating (play-off years ago excepted) so I am not overly confident about a win! This week presents a great opportunity to make up some ground and if we fail to win - lose ground. Although Dumbarton and Clyde have been 'stuffy' recently we must assume Cove and Falkirk (both at home) will win these games. With Montrose and Airdrie playing each other we have a chance to make up ground on these clubs. Any thoughts are welcome.
