  1. So when does the dislike end? Is that it for you or will you like him if we have a good World Cup campaign? What possible bearing does his willingness to admit mistakes have on his ability to shape and select a team? As for the decisions in the Czech game, to me he has`nt made much of it since his understandable frustration at the end of that particular match and his sentiments were shared by the Dutch FA who binned the guy from their A list based mainly on his performance that day. Sorry to tie you down and undermine your personal feelings about the man but do you think that the current team is better than the one he took over?
  2. The team is now better than the one he inherited. It`s better going forward and has a better and recognised shape throughout. Continued improvement is the only criteria on which the man`s performance can be judged. I honestly find the personal vitriol directed against levein on this site more than a little strange. It`s as if some kind of campaign is ongoing that has no basis in reality and is based almost entirely on personal dislikes of an individual. Don`t know what he`s done to GrantB but read back to his offerings on this and similar threads and then ask where reasoned argument is involved. Prague was a mistake, it`s in the past and was at the start of the man`s stewardship.
  3. Not arguing but no-one has ever explained how Hamilton managed to get their young players to sign lengthy contracts before they were transferred. How did they manage to talk players into disregarding standard agent advice about the financial benefits of being a free agent. The reason they got the megabucks is that contracts had to be bought out (transferred) and the club cashed in. If compensation had been involved that would have been (comparative) buttons.
  4. Sorry mate but I think you`re becoming a bit irrational where Levein is concerned. It`s understandable to have some misgivings about the man, his selections and tactics but what you`re posting goes way beyond anything that could be deemed reasonable. To me his team on Saturday was the strongest available to him and his tactics were effective. Even you would admit that the result was of greater importance than the style of play. You`re just wrong in saying that he`s not learning on the job as the team IS improving and the constant grasping of the team selection in Prague is getting more than a little tireseome. The team and manager have moved on since then. I honestly don`t see what importance his refusal to admit mistakes makes to anything, what does it achieve? Don`t know what the guy`s done to you buy your`re reaction to his appointment is way way over the top.
  5. Unlike some on here I happen to think Levein is doing a good job with what he has at his disposal. It`s obvious he has his own ideas on how he likes his team formations and he`s sticking to that. He`s learning on the job and if (as looks likely) we come up short this time then surely we can look forward to the World Cup campaign with some confidence because the one thing that is obvious to most is that the team IS improving. As for saying playing with nominally one up front is defensive and using it as a stick to beat him with then sorry, that`s just stupid. That`s now the standard formation for most successful teams as it allows huge flexibility within the team.
  6. I know it`s all if buts and maybes but I`d be really confident about play off matches against this current Republic of Ireland team.
  7. Said last year that if the ongoing enquiries into our game had any real foresight and ambition they would make the introduction of artificial pitches MANDATORY for all SFL games. The financial benifits to the clubs, the opening of the grounds to the wider community and the improved skill levels of our younger players would be huge. Not to mention the near certainty that cancellations would be reduced to almost nil thus allowing clubs to plan for matchday with certainty.
  8. just hope it`s well chaired and half the evening is`nt spent discussing the pie stalls.
  9. look at the two of them again and then retract. Iwelumo managed to find the only bit of the stadium that would`nt result in a goal.
  10. Everything`s secong to Iwelumo`s. There are no other contenders
  11. Slightly off topic, Lucas Atkins who is without doubt the worst football player I have ever seen when we had the misfortune to borrow him from Hamilton, scored again for Tranmere last week.
  12. That`s mental. Arthur was tremendous with us before being stolen by Hibs. In a good team he was one of the stand outs
  13. As a boy I used to sometimes get a supporters bus from the bottom of Peel Street, would this have been the same supporters club?
  14. Sandy Frame would have been even better than the great Somner
  15. On the off chance anyone out there is stupid enough (on this forum anything is possible) to think to the contrary, I think the current manager is doing a good job and should even be congratulated on the progress the team is making. Apparently, unlike many, I had`nt made a decision on the guy BEFORE a ball had been kicked
  16. It`s also a bit like saying the guy might have made a mistake but what`s the point of that when EVERYONE knows he`ll never make a Scotland manager. Hey, it`s not always easy to jump on a bandwagon!!
  17. McGregor has never declined a call up and has always insisted that it`s the great honour it is. Fletcher can criticise the manager all he wants but the fact remains he has refused to play for his country. He`s wrong and you`re wrong.
  18. So the money I plough into the Centenary Fund and the merchandising I buy for the family is worth squat I take it? Bit of a contradiction in giving someone regular funds and turning your back on them...........isn`t it?
  19. Sorry, I absolutely fail to understand why you can think any reason to walk away from the National Team is either acceptable or understandable. Not having a go but these people are rejecting an opportunity that the rest of us (although apparently not some on this forum) can only dream of. To me, their reasoning/motivation is utterly meaningless.
  20. Stephen, as someone who obviously watches football the correct comparison is which team is better, the current one or the one that took part in the last championships. To me, the answer is obvious. There are obvious deficencies in central defence and up front but the current team is still demonstrably better than those that went before in the recent past.
  21. Two things: The team is better in every respect from the one the manager inherited a fairly short while ago. That`s to me pretty much unarguable. So, unless someone else is stepping forward to take the credit why is suddenly open season on the guy? Fletcher walked out on the national team. Like it or not, he`s slapped everyone who cares about the National Team in the face (obviously not everyone on this forum). His return to the squad, even allowing for precedence and need would merely add insult to injury. He should never be allowed anywhere near Hampden in the future unless he buys a ticket. Anyone who thinks anything else is wrong
  22. To me Naismith was by a distance our best forward over the last two games and one of the few on the park who looked comfortable with International football. edited to add; Irrespective of the frailties of our forwards, I hope Fletcher rots in what particular hell awaits him. Any person who knocks back the National Team ahould be automatically barred for life. When his agent tells him that his value could be added to with International recognition I hope he`s chased
  23. Is`nt there a chance that with all the money being spent on the Commonwealth Games the current running track might be surplus to requirements?
