  1. Combined, those two clips show as impressive a collection of inept powderpuff attempts to score that you'll ever see. We could should have scored eight times against Cowdenbeath. And as for those three golden chances against the cheats, well to fail to even trouble the goalkeeper on any of them seems almost unforgivable. But they also show that we have a class keeper.
  2. Agreed, we should go for the subliminal, subtle approach.
  3. Funny thing is that I was thinking almost exactly along those lines last night for at least half the game. Then we end up scoring 3 goals, with what looks like a really promising young striker, and I start to think again that "maybe we've been unlucky with the breaks this season....."
  4. I tried to phrase my post to make it generic rather than aimed at any specific individual. But you're one of the "problems" that the footballing powers need to try to get back into the habit of going to see their team whenever they can. It's certainly not about being a good or a bad person; it's about a commercial organization losing its appeal to previously loyal and bonded customers/clients. When even guys like yourself are losing interest (even without excuses relating to the bunnet's preferred styles of players and play, etc.), then the situation is getting very serious. And again, clearly not just for Thistle, but for most clubs.
  5. How about this random idea: the problem is that there are already too many matches, not too few! The repetitiveness of the league is finally causing more and more people to simply not go. So, how about having teams play each other only twice in the league, regardless of the size of the league. But, double the admission price! This not only means that there could easily be a winter shut-down, but also that each game would be much more of an event (or a non-event, but even so it would be more of an occasion). And the enthusiasm among fans might return after a Dec-Feb break. It wouldn't cost fans any more in the long run, but might even increase income from hospitality, catering, etc.
  6. Of course there's no obligation for anybody to pay good money to see football, and I reckon most regular supporters miss some matches for one reason or another (I know that I do). But it certainly seems that there's an increase in the number of people (Thistle "supporters") who now just don't care whether Thistle decide to switch to part-time football and either stay in the lower leagues for ever more, or even go bust. If the latter happened, I've no doubt that some of them would join in all the wailing and mourning and accusations that the board never got the investment required, or invested enough in the team, or that the leagues and cups were boring, etc etc. Some of them even do that right now. But the bottom line is that they (those "supporters") just couldn't be bothered. And some of them make a point of letting it be known on online forums that they can't be bothered. This doesn't only apply to PTFC; I'm sure it's more widespread.
  7. Couldn't believe that when I saw it earlier. What exactly did the referee send him off for? Ungentlemanly conduct? Using undue force to restrain a law-breaker? Weird.
  8. Just in case anybody is already sick of the sight of Falkirk, we've got three games against them coming up within a 3-week period. Riveting.
  9. Was thinking a bit more about this. It wouldn't even have to be a Hall of Fame event, but an evening of reminiscences, where a few old-timers could be introduced and then asked questions from the audience, panel-style. Informal, but with food and drink on the go might be a better way to do it. Just a suggestion.
  10. This. I got in a minute or two after kick-off, and the streets around Firhill were so quiet I even wondered if the game had been called off for some reason. Then I wondered whether a tenner to get in would have made any difference, and doubted it. I think that a lot of people just aren't interested these days, and trot out the "too dear" excuse too easily. Sure, there are also folk who genuinely don't have the cash these days, but others who say it's too dear will spend as much doing something else instead, so it just comes down to them losing interest in football at this level/Thistle. As there have been a few posts recently about reserves matches many years ago, last night reminded me of those. In fact I reckon that there were probably as many punters as last night at the odd reserves match in the 60s.
  11. Excellent photies. That was one wild spell of weather in the 2nd half! Who knows if Doolan's goal was meant as a cross or a shot, but I had one of those feelings that it was going in as soon as it left his boot. Wow, a picture of Erskine winning a header!
  12. Most folk seem to be in agreement! QoS not very good, but we let them back into it in the 2nd half. Some excellent and important saves by Fox, who was actually the busier keeper! Rowson covered every pile of mud on the pitch. Erskine as enigmatic as ever. But I thought that Boyle and Flannigan both had stinkers, especially in the 2nd half. Paton put in an excellent shift. Could Fraser be that elusive striker that we need so badly.....?
  13. The "current form" (last 5 matches) of Thistle and Queens (see official site) makes interesting reading. We've lost only 1, whereas they've lost 2. And yet they've amassed more points than we have, thanks to the fact that they've managed to win one match (we've won none). They've scored 9 times, whereas we've managed only 4 goals. But they've also conceded 9 (us: 5), so maybe even our powder-puff forwards can do some damage tonight. Monra Jags.
  14. So they've finally sorted out the pigeon problem in the JH stand?
  15. I do come across as an excitable juvenile at times, not especially befitting.
  16. You've got me scratching my head now, but I always imagine him playing either on the right wing or as an inside right. I'll need to check in some old programmes. But my memory these days is like two monkeys fighting over a banana, so you may well be right. For those who might be wondering, here's Flanagan (apologies for the earlier spelling mistake) in action, wearing a short-lived strip that I'd love to see resurrected as our away outfit. http://ptfc.fotopic.net/p5814655.html
  17. Worst pun ever alert!!!!
  18. I sympathise. Used to like the Sunday Herald, though got fed up with their rabid anti-SNP (non)stories week-in, week-out. But since they've changed to their "magazine" format the overall value for money has gone right down. They don't even have the weekly tv schedule any more. Think I'll need to drop it, but hell, what's the alternative? Certainly not SoS. Maybe, after all these years, it's back to the Sunday Post for me.
  19. Thanks for that info. But presumably (hopefully) the overall sponsorship deal is worth more than that?
  20. Dunno where the Firhill scenes come from. I recognize Bertie, of course, and John Hansen and John Craig (I think), but not sure of the other guy sitting in his undies.
